What's his purpose if he doesn't have a say in any of that?

That man needs to be fired.

So should we also blame Shu for the loss of the Laptop division and not spinning off the TV division? Sony's been cutting down the fat, and games that are making little progress but taking MILLIONS of dollars away from the company need to go. It's the real world.

Yes, lets blame someone who probably had nothing to do with any of these decisions. Good idea.

Yeah. Lets not blame Sonys massive internal development problems on the man incharge of Sony internal development!

If this happened at one or two studios sure. Shit happens. I could see your point but at basically every studio? Nope.

I just wish someone from IGN would clarify if their source was that russian blog or if they had another source. The timing of the article really makes it seem like that was their source.

I'm surprised how little I care about this, actually.

I mean, TLG's unveil was what pushed me to have the PS3 on my to-buy list. I then played Shadow of the Colossus for the first time a couple of years later (I never had a PS2), and my anticipation for TLG grew. Then ever since then I guess I stopped caring. I mean, by that time it looked like TLG was in all kinds of development hell and wasn't going to come out anytime soon, if ever.

I really would like to see just what it was about the game that got it canceled. SotC was a technical marvel and must've been a bitch to code. I remember reading something about the griffin's AI routines that were extremely difficult to code, but was it honestly so tough that an entire studio spent the better half of a decade coding, only to conclude it was simply an unsolvable problem?

The departures from the studio also lead me to believe some bad blood was brewing at the studio itself. Perhaps their higher-ups were telling them to hurry the fuck up and they got fed up.

At any rate, I think I'm actually glad that we're getting some closure. Some games just go for years and never end up getting canceled, but never released either. At least now we can finally say that the game isn't coming out, instead of everyone expecting the game to show up at every major gaming event only to come out disappointed or frustrated that, yet again, the studio still had nothing to show and nothing to say about having nothing to show. It was getting really fucking annoying.

If this is indeed cancelled, it would seem to be the work of Mr. Yoshida, as he's probably in charge of stuff like this.

I assume this will damage his "gamer-friendly" reputation a bit...maybe people will get over it like they got over Studio Liverpool's closure.

I don't understand how this would damage a "gamer-friendly" reputation?

IGN is baiting Sony on getting a statement out.

That would be risky because the best move for Sony would be to not respond whether true or not. If it's not cancelled IGN would be losing a lot of credibility in a few days. Would be a dumb move for IGN to bait like that.

Looked interesting but all we ever had was a trailer that looked cool, so really no love lost here. Rime and the likes will still please this target audience.

So. Shuhei Yoshida resign? Yay or Nay?

So far this year.

Naughty Dog loses one of the best creative forces in the industry as well as a game director mid project
Cancelled a new IP with $100m already spent at SSM. 50 long time staff fired
Launch game Driveclub delayed a full year
Guerrilla games has been working on a new IP for 3 years that "isnt ready to show" and who knows if it will even see the light of day
The Last Guardian killed after 8 years in development

Thats a lot of expensive cockups. I dont know about you but IMO heads must roll.

I'm already at the last stage.

This is just Sony pulling a GOG.com. This is all an ill-conceived joke and they're going to announce at E3 that the game is on-track for a holiday 2014 release.

Funnily enough, I'm not so much as sad that the game is possibly cancelled as I'm now getting depressed at how possibly bad this conference might actually be. I wouldn't be surprised if people walked out halfway through the show. I think...I think Sony let the sales get to their heads man.

I'm pretty devastated... I think Sony owes us a lot more than this. They have had this game in development for SO LONG... what a total waste.

Come on people, Sony wouldn't play coy for this fucking long on a game and waste that much money just to shitcan it like that. They know there is hype and they probably have IGN in on it as close as they are. They never officially cancelled the PS3 version, now they have. They are doing this two days before E3 to get peoples jimmies rustled then BAM standing ovation moment as they unveil The Last Guardian for PS4. Blatant media manipulation.

Woo! Wow! Stage 1 example right here. But I'm sure you were joking :p

Hahaha holy shit this thread. So much emotion over so little game footage.

Was a nice title to look forward to but how invested were people in something that has barely existed since it was announced.
