Oh man, this gets better by the page.

They said it was "officially cancelled." You do not, under any circumstance, label a rumor as official confirmation for a piece of news that big. That wasn't just a "woops, we forgot something," minor mistake. A higher-up at Sony is directly refuting their "official" source. That's just plain garbage journalism.

Additionally, they don't seem to have posted an update, retraction, apology for fucking the pooch, or anything like that. I normally wouldn't be one to grab a pitchfork, but that's a whole new level of shitty games journalism.

IGN,

No where in the article did it say officially cancelled. Twitter and FB did. While that parts obviously wrong, I'd honestly expect a retraction/apology by the morning.

What amazes me more is that the story was written by the site's editor-in-chief Steve Butts. It lacked any notation that they called Sony for confirmation, or even asked Sony for comment. As a small time gaming site runner, I still even try to get an official comment on rumors from game companies.

To me, this should all come down on Steve Butts. The rest of the team at IGN shouldn't suffer for their moronic leaders lack of journalism skills. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see Butts demoted or resigning after E3.

I just woke up, trying to make sense of this. From what I understand:
Russian source says 'TLG was canceled in some meeting'.

IGN posts an article in which they claim that TLG 'officially' has been 'officially' canceled 'officially' (by Sony) based on this source. The article is posted before they actually receive a statement or commentary of any kind from Sony on the rumor.

GAF melts down.

Scott Rohde tweets TLG isn't canceled.

GAF melts down.
Accurate?

And you know this exactly how?
Because they admitted that they don't.

They didn't even get a word from Sony. This entire thing is purely rumor and speculation based on an alleged "leak" that they didn't bother posting despite trying to pass off their article as fact. And leaks are just that, rumors.
