2014 Microsoft E3 Conference

As an MS fan (already own an X1) I thought the conference was brilliant.
I can def understand why none MS fans were underwhelmed but for me it had almost everything that I wanted. Only things missing were a new Rare game and Shenmue (pipe dreams).

Between Halo Collection, Forza Horizon 2 and Sunset Overdrive I will have no time for anything else this year.

Sony are going to have to do something really, really special to convince me to pick up a PS4 anytime soon.

I think this is going on way too much.

Just because this years is better than the previous 3 which were littered with a ton of Kinect footage (god, remember when people were eating up the Future Soldier voice stuff) doesn't mean the conference was good.

Was it paced well? sure
Were there games shown? yes
IMO was there enough next gen gameplay to warrant giving them a good grade? Not to me.

I give them a 7 if it has to be a number grade.
7 is a good number. It is 2 number above the average number in a 1-10 scale.
1 - 4 is bad numbers. 5 is average and 6-10 are good numbers.
Learn to use the damn scale. (This is not a shit at you but rather to everyone as this is a widespread problem)

And MS just proved that having games and good pace does not make your press conference good.

Why are people surprised that no gameplay was shown for some of their reveals? Games don't come out of no where and take time to make and spencer has not been In power long. It was good conference overall much better then last year, the only issue was the crazy hyping by ms and spencer that did not do them any favors. Glad I had reasonabl expectations.

7/10.

This conference was all about potential, and nothing to do with "This is the gameplay that will make you see why you need an Xbox One".

They did a great job of showing the number of good developers making games with some good ideas, but those trailers could have been done for a PS3. It means nothing until I see actual gameplay. That goes with with any CGI that Sony shows as well btw this evening.

I really wouldn't have thought a game from rare would be a 'pipe dream', that was probably the only thing I was looking forward to. That studio is so dead :(

Where were the megatons? Rumours swirling round of RE being exclusive, a huge 3rd part game, shenmue etc, nothing. Even all that twitter hype and pre E3 announcements made it seem as if something huge was coming. That platinum game looks weak I still can't believe that was the huge exclusive, the 2016 release window doesn't help either.

expecting stuff like shenmue 3 was dumb, but fans let themselves fall into the trap over and over. Leaks took the bite out of stuff like horizon 2 and halo collection, and Platinum stuff are almost always niche releases for a vocal fanbase.

MS will have to build their console on exclusives, and they showed good stuff, but anything green lit since their struggles are still years off. Rare just finished another Kinect game, so they wouldn't have anything here yet.

i have two ratings for the microsoft conference.

8/10 for current system owners
7/10 for fence sitters and casuals

showed enough stuff to keep current owners happy but i don't think they showed enough to make fence sitters go out and buy the system.

What is your GOTG? The next COD? There is nothing like Sunset OverDrive and the gameplay, the weapons, and the art style is totally refreshing and innovative not like another Assassins Creed. It's adrenaline filled like Jet Set Radio where you have to continually be moving. The story looks compelling and the city looks like a blast to explore with a roller coaster in the e3 demo. Surely, there is more. As Greg Miller says, Insomniac is finally doing a project that they love doing and old school Insomniac is back with the humor. The trailer was lovely and creative looking like one for Battlefield.

Annndddd... Imagine running throughout this colorful city with 7 other people in online coop causing havoc?

I don't know why this reaction. The IGN panel also said Sunset Overdrive so far looked like the GOTG.

Or how about most sane people won't have a GOTG yet because the generation only fully started 6 months ago?

I don't see how you could decide something like that at this point in time. I mean yeah the game looks cool, but come on man.

Well, the show was ok. It's not the shows fault that the x1 is in the situation it is in and no e3 show ca fix the lack in hardware power.

Why shouldn't you be able to debute a game with actual gameplay? Ubisoft does it all the time. See Rainbox Six this year. Game came out of nowwhere, with gameplay. The Division last year. Watch Dogs year before...

none of those games will look as good as in their reveal though :(

GOTG = Game of the Conference, is what I mean't lmao. MY BAD. Definitely did not mean of the generation.

Some interesting games but I almost wish the big players in the game industry would sit down and decide to not show games unless they are going to be released in the next 12 months. The reveal with all CGI then an 18 month wait for the game kills my hype more than build it.

So did they really decide they didn't need to justify the thing with games prior to its removal?

I don't feel like Microsoft had a lot of games to show period. It might also give truth to the idea that Kinect functionality for games is a last minute addition. And double maybe some publishers might have been asked not to highlight any Kinect functionality?

Just making wild guesses because it is curious.

I think that's a really fair and accurate assessment of the conference...unfortunately for me I'm a fence sitter right now...and HD versions of Halo (as much as I love the franchise) isn't gonna be enough

Missed this conference because of the work. Seems like the general consensus is that it was a decent presentation, but the games themselves were uninteresting. Took a peak around, glad to see Capcom's sense of humor with that Dead Rising 3 DLC. Platinum's new game looked interesting to me, but I didn't really care for much else.

True to my word, I bought a Kinectless Xbox. I did so after the conference. I thought the conference was pretty weak sauce but I had enough promo money, discounts and credit card cash back to get one for free.

Sunset Overdrive, Magic the Gathering and Scalebound all excite me but they need to get alot of new exclusive content that we want for 2015 and beyond. I predict this E3 did not help Microsoft at all.

MS didn't shoot themselves in the foot, but I thought their lineup from last year was much better. Titanfall/Ryse/Dead Rising/Killer Instinct is alot better than Halo HD collection + Sunset Overdrive. Scalebound/Crackdown are too far off to make any real assessment right now.

lack of power or not, it's enough for Horizon 2 to look this good

At 30fps. Great. Btw, I bet most wanted on PC with max settings is graphically comparable at least. Less fidelity but 60fps and higher IQ. I played this two years ago.

Sunset overdrive looks like a reskined ratchet. Which is a good thing, because ratchet game play was always great. But again , at 60fps. Overdrive will lack responsiveness and the game play will not benefit from that.

That is the main problem of the xb1. It's completely unappealing as 3rd party console since the gap to ps4 is relatively huge. But it can't push amazing 1st party content as well.

So you know what Sony and Nintendo are going to announce already? Do tell!

Captain Obvious? No shit sherlock, that's the point. Could opinion change? Yes, but like you said smart one, I haven't seen that. My opinion came from the present, clearly.

A B- from me, and I am in a generous mood. What bothers me is not the lack of surprises (I do not care) or the use of CG (though I dislike it very much); it was the absence of any jaw dropper, a game with either a phenomenal presentation or an ambitious concept. It was a serie of titles which looked good, at a conference which had a great pacing (Sony sucks at this. Always has, always will).
Forza Horizon 2 looks good...but that is about it. Not that impressed, and I am watching the IGN video...
The Halo collection is precisely that, a collection.
Crackdown 3 presented through an uglly CG.
Kamiya's game = CG + horrendous aesthetics. But the man makes really fun exeriences so I am keeping an eye on it.

The two only titles that seem worthy -imo- are Sunset Overdrive (mildly excited to be honest, but still...) and that 2 nd scroller with the little boy that looks like a futuristic limbo (forgot the title) which they announced as a timed exclusive.

The rest was meh!

Yes...agree with this as well...though I worry that the same will hold true for Sony...

*sigh* my biggest takeaway was the sad realization that I'm not in the target demographic anymore, as evidenced by unexpectedly being put off by so many excessively violent trailers. thankfully a few games eventually showed up that I look forward to playing with the kids.

No new Kinect party/happy action theater = sadface.

Damn, what have I become!? ><
