Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

That was a pretty good conference with a few slow parts. The bitching is really overboard.

As always.

This year was pretty good but sometimes the way people criticize it's like they aren't even in it to play games but for some other bragging rights.

Best conference in a long, long time, FULL of promise for the future(which is the point) and delivery, gameplays a ton, exclusives, talk about cool services, exclusive content for third party games, indies a plenty, talk about 1 really exciting tv show (just enough), Bendis is the man.
Lots of games... NO MAN SKY is a dream come true, if that game delivers it's promise, could be best game EVER(just imagine on Morpheus!).
Fantastic gameplay for Batman! so sad it's for 2015.
I dunno man, too many announcements that I forgot everything already! need to recap on polygon or kotaku..
IMO this blowed even Sony's from last year, out of the water.
THE ORDER LOOKS AMAZING!!
Uncharted 4 looks rebooted! right? And Nate is old!! can't wait to see that gameplay!

Thought MS did a solid job this morning, Spencer is the man to put them back on the right track.

A bright future for console gaming!!!!

Project morpheus which they barely showed at all? Also, lets ignore that this all depends on taste. Winning E3 is really an individual opinion. More people with similar individual opinions do not make those opinions more valid. For me, almost none of the third party or first party games either company showed are stuff I care about

Winning e3 is also kind of a dumb and probably meaningless concept.

Both MS and Sony had great games, I play more on ps4 so some of the stuff tonight really seemed awesome to me. But in the end, Sony basically wasted 45 minutes of my night. At least MS kept it snappy, and I think they showed more gameplay (a lot of 3rd party stuff to be fair).

Walked away pretty meh from both, MS kept my attention more for that hour. No mans sky, ass creed, and far cry were the best.

I thought the conference was excellent. Had personality unlike Microsoft's. The execs seemed like they were just having fun. LBP3 was a legit surprise for me, especially for a November release. Bloodborn of course, dayum. Uncharted 4 graphics are holy shit. And the conference had actual non-game 'game' news (as a console manufacturer should) with Destiny PS4 bundle and PS TV. It helps the pacing in my opinion to have some slower moments that aren't just watching demos/trailers. The TV show stuff was super lame though and went on way too long.

B.

Yep. If this wasn't impressive, you're delusional or can't be impressed. I'd love to see them tighten up the middle next year, but content wise, they nailed it.

Or you know, have tastes different to the typical "hardcore" dudebro gamer. I don't like Shooters. Project beast might be cool but after watching the trailer at the conference I feel like I learned nothing about what it actually is besides another dark fantasy game from FROM. And I was never able to get into Dark Souls, so there's that as well.

Really wish they had more to say about Morpheus, but it's cool that they have two new demos for it, which sounds like more than what Oculus brought to E3 so far.

I'd give it a 7.5/10

got bored with the indies/writing thing and the numbers.

LBP3 came out of nowhere.
KuGsj.gif

GTA isnt exclusive, FC4 isn't exclusive, Batman's not exclusive. they basically had uncharted, the order (which looked boring as hell), and bloodborne. really underwhelming.

And most of the stuff MS showed wasn't excluisve. And what they did show was CGI for games that won't be out for years.

You also forgot a few games there (LBP3 to start with)

tech we have already seen gameplay of blood borne

Which makes you wonder why we didn't see it on stage. I actually think that CG trailer was kind of boring and typical, but the webm's blew me away.

EDIT: People are sleeping on Phantom Dust, too bad.

I give

MS: 7.7/10
SONY: 8/10

The GTA5 anouncement and the U4 teaser are the things that saved it. Without them it would of been a 6/10, I'am pretty sure GTA5 is coming to X1 also, but at first I thorght it was exclsuive to PS4 and was like 10/10, 10/10 and then Uncharted came and I was slike 15/10.

but now I've a few mins to think about it , it is not a landslide victory and heres why

  • strong start
  • cgi trailers
  • 3rd party stuff
  • indies indies and more dam indies (I dont remeber any gen having this much emphises on god dam indies)
  • and then it went really south
  • layden just talked about a load of crap about stuff we already know
  • vita tv
  • fucking youtube
  • and your then thinking it could not get any worse and houser comes out and introduces some powers tv (which ive never heard of) segment which seems to last an enternity
  • more 3rd party, MK did look nice though
  • Now i'am was there thinking, my god, this is the worse conference this year
  • but, houser comes back out and talks about a franchise many ps fans have spent hours apon
  • some hills appear and animals, i'am thinking ''is it a sequal to africa? then a i see the wood mill and i'am llike '' no it cant be GTA FUCKING 5!!!!!!1 my god
  • houser is like its comes to PS4 2014
  • i'am like 'well it cant be exclusive cos he would of said if it was''
  • then there batman which looks awesome
  • then houser closes with a ND uncharted megaton
  • after such a poor middle section of the conference I kinda felt it went from zero to hero at the end
  • though GAT5 is multiplat
  • U4 looks amazing, though does it look better then ryse's in engine cutscences?
  • how does it look during gameplay
  • These question stoped me giving the conference a higher score, though they still won E3 because the uncharted demo made me say WOW HOLY SHIT,WHAT DIMINISHING RETURNS?
  • MS needed a WOW moment, Why on earth didnt they do and ''in engine on xbox one'' trailer for halo 5 is beyond me.

So is everyone okay with the concept of exclusive DLC now that Sony has locked up tons of exclusive third party DLC?

Just curious...
No, it is still ridiculous garbage. What can I say, monkey see, monkey do. MS is the pioneer of this garbage tactic, it is only logical for their competitors to do the same thing as a reaction (just like making you pay for online gaming, MS and all those idiots that paid for xbox live paved the way).

Double agreed. The two flaws I think are no mention of TLG and pacing issues. That is the only bad I can think of...

Agreed.

I thought overall it was pretty great. Powers/Ratchet movie brought it down a little, but the rest of the show was pretty solid. A lot of games piqued my interest, although a few fell flat or weren't things I was interested in in the first place.

Yeah, the best part was getting a Rachet 1 HD remake out of it at least!

Also, wrong place for it but can't wait to see the Rachet movie. Powers looks promising.

underwhelmed by the Sony conference. No FF15. No KH3. no TLG, no morpheus. Don't care about LBP3. Already knew about project beast, the order and uncharted 4.

It was a complete disaster. The presenters droned on and on, bloating the conference.

Then you have these presenters talking about CONCEPT ART and MOVIE TRAILERS.

Finally, the top megaton is a two minute scene of a character standing up.

-1/10

Y'know there are just some posters that I have to check their Post History to make sure they're not astroturfing.

I don't think there was any way for the conference to live up to expectations after all the ridiculous rumors. Happy that we at least got Uncharted 4, though.

My taste is great, I just don't like sequels on sequels on sequels, or games I can play elsewhere. I'm sorry that AC Unity was a refreshing take on the series, verses a rehashed Uncharted sequel where it'll be more of the same auto-platforming and senseless firefights. My taste isn't crap because I didn't lose my shit at all the sequels and rehashes, my taste is exquisite because I actually want a game with gameplay, not a game based off of a 30 second teaser.

LOL Ok dude..

The conference was great. Nothing spectacular but it hit the marks and is what you want to achieve. It had games for everyone, even while most of them didn't excite me personally. Regardless of my lack of interest for a lot of the games, I know the Sony did a good job.

Like I said, nothing spectacular in my opinion, but a good job none the less. It had some flaws. I thought the pacing was rough. I became pretty boring somewhere in there. Also, a lot of the games felt "Samey" like I had seen them before. Sequels upon sequels and remakes and remasters and whatnot. Nothing wrong with that but it felt so noticeable here, I think in part because of the pacing. The begining of the conference was it's strongest point as everything felt relatively new ad fresh.

The NeoGAF shoutout. Did no one else smile big enough to bust a jaw bone??

No smiling allowed

Or you know, have tastes different to the typical "hardcore" dudebro gamer. I don't like Shooters. Project beast might be cool but after watching the trailer at the conference I feel like I learned nothing about what it actually is besides another dark fantasy game from FROM. And I was never able to get into Dark Souls, so there's that as well.

There were tons of non-shooters on display

Winning e3 is also kind of a dumb and probably meaningless concept.

Both MS and Sony had great games, I play more on ps4 so some of the stuff tonight really seemed awesome to me. But in the end, Sony basically wasted 45 minutes of my night. At least MS kept it snappy, and I think they showed more gameplay (a lot of 3rd party stuff to be fair).

Walked away pretty meh from both, MS kept my attention more for that hour. No mans sky, ass creed, and far cry were the best.
Yeah. I don't recognise either as bad really, just that they didn't appeal to me at all with maybe one or two exceptions that were barely even shown

This wasn't even bad in a Konami 2010, or Sony E3 2006 where you can glean funny moments from a trainwreck, this was a literal train wreck. So much cross-gen/multiplat/available on PC games that do nothing to get someone to buy a PS4. I guess there's the exclusive content, like TV shows and 4 days of exclusive access to a beta. Hooray.

This is why MS did all that pre e3 stuff. Really good call by them. They were able to keep their show moving and short. Both sides will do that next year.

Sony came in as expected with no real suprises other than LBP and White PS4.

so did you guys see those hammerhead sharks in the GTAV trailer? they've added more animals! and more traffic. who knows what else.

GTAV getting upgraded not just visually but with new content is HUGE to me.

PLEASE BE TRUE!

This would be awesome!

GTAV is really the only game i was looking for at E3.

Maybe just cause 3.

Random notes:

The Order: Beyond Two Contextual Button Presses. Now you too can press triangle in the most cinematic fashion ever.
Entwined. Flow, for two. Available Now - good stuff.
Infamous: First Light. Consider me intrigued. Is this the plan with all the secondary characters?
Little Big Planet 3: Little Toggle is fucking adorable. The original game was a revelation of whimsy that presented much better. Its missing that dreaminess. Its a lego game now. Backwards compatibility for the 8.7 million community levels is fucking genius.
Far Cry 4: Tomb Raider, Xtreme Animal Warfare. Single buyer co-op - what the what the what the fuck?
Dead Island: Sunset Underdrive.

Diablo 3 / Last of Us? What the what the what the fuck?

Battlefield Hardline: Miami Dice: Hope the servers work.
Destiny Exclusive PS4 Content: Exclusive map? Fuck off.
Magicka 2: I'm in.
Tim Shaferpocalypse. Sounds good.

What the fuck and why havent I played Broforce before?

The Talos Principle: Yeah, I Witnessed it, and know not what I have seen, therefore I am.
Let it Die: Death Metal Progress Bars.
ABZU: Visual dreamy concept art. Sings to me.

No Man's Sky: Makes me tingle in special places. The end of gaming as we know it? The beginning of awe inspiring infinite procedural singularity that makes me fear its Spore and I don't know. Please don't be Spore. Please.

Share to Youtube / Activity Feed: It's about time. Solid move.

Playroom DLC: Making streaming porn even easier.
Free to Play games: I'm going to go fucking broke.
PS Now: Coming Later.
Mortal Kombat X: jesus. fucking ouch.
The Last of Us: Under the bridge.
Metal Gear Solid 5: No release date. Fuck.
GTA5 on PS4: FALL. Dammit. Transfer from 360 to PS4? Hold damn.
Arkham Knight: Is this real life? Becuase holy fucking shit. I can do without the tank battles tho.
Sony: STOP SHOWING FOOTAGE OF THE CROWD INSTEAD OF THE SCREEN. And your e3 app was a piece of shit.

Random aside: Vita has gotten exponentially more on-screen time the Kinect.

Final Verdict: Master Chief Collection wins e3.

For me, Sony had a bad conference overall, but they had the most wow moments. MS's conference was tight, good pacing and had a solid lineup of titles. But nothing besides Halo really wowed me. Whereas Sony had more moments that I was more intrigued by, but a really really really boring and poorly paced conference. Sad thing is, most of Sony's high moments were third party titles that are on all systems, but were just apart of their conference (GTA V next gen, Mortal Kombat X) etc.

But still, No Man's Sky, Metal Gear, Little Big Planet 3, The Order, Blood Born, Mortal Kombat X, Uncharted 4 etc.

Just more moments here that peaked my interest. But overall, what a poor E3 day.

Really enjoyed that. Didn't think it would beat the Ms conference, but I was easterly surprised. Best conference of the day with MS second.

Anyways, putting Microsofts and Sonys conferences together means my wallet is the loser of E3.

Seriously not joking. I want almost more than 60% of the announced games

I missed the beginning of the part where he said

"...And those who don't have the game can play along with you."

The stream went out. What was he talking about?

The conference was prety average. Trailers galore with little gameplay (outside of LBP which looked as bad as ever, at least if you hate floaty, imprecise plateformers).

The only game that piqued my interest was Entwined.

So far the only truly interesting game is that forest one from the MS conference... And I guess the Limbo "sequel".

I was pleased with both MS and Sony.

Crackdown is the announcement of forever for me, but I'm also interested in Bloodborne and Let It Die also!

Isn't No Man's Sky coming for PS4 and X1?

I don't what people expect anymore. Between calling shit "last-gen" gameplay or calling everything boring, I feel like I'm drowning in stupidity when I'm looking through a lot of these posts. Way too much bitching. It's not even past THE FIRST YEAR that the consoles have been out. You need to be patience. It's like the only way people will be legitimately satisfied from a conference is if they see Shenmue 3, Half Life 3, or The Last Guardian otherwise it's all meh.

Huh? There was a ton of non-Dudebro content.

I have no idea how anyone could rate Sony's conference higher than MS. Microsoft literally did nothing but show games. If you want to discount MS' showing because ntkrnl leaked the gist of it ahead of time, that is simply ridiculous. Leaks should not discredit the actual content of a presentation.

MS:
GAMES. Nothing but games. Plenty of AAA exclusives (Sunset Overdrive, Halo, Forza Horizon, Crackdown, Fable, Scalebound, etc).

9/10

Sony:
Games. TV TV TV! Ratchet and Clank Movie... Statistics! Very few AAA exclusives (Bloodborne, The Order, LBP3, Uncharted). Way too much focus on multi-plats. The flow of the presentation was very poor and they clearly did not have enough game content to fill the entire conference.

7/10

Especially after Microsoft's "TV, TV, TV!" fiasco of last year.... how could Sony think this was a sound strategy.

But, I will say, it was lightyears better than EA's "better off not showing up" conference.

----

I think both were basically a wash in terms of game content, Sony just kind of killed their momentum with non-game talk in the middle.

You left out the Ratchet & Clank remake, but yeah.

Lined up like this, I much prefer Sony's showing of games.
Microsoft had better pacing though.
UbiSoft was alright, but not much interest me.
EA had nothing but concepts. Ugh.

In my opinion Sony had more of a traditional conference where as Microsoft was more of a long sizzle reel of trailers/gameplay. Also props to the lbp crew for actually doing a live demo, I have my doubts about any of the other 'demos' we saw today actually being played live.

I did roll my eyes a few times during laydens segment, particularly whenever he reiterated features of the ps4 that have been known since launch.

ABZÛ was the highlight for me :D. So fricking excited for it. The only thing that disappointed me about that conference is (apart from the obvious no TLG) no Rime. Where is it?

For me, the conference was very underwhelming. Uncharted does look amazing, but it's a Fall 2015 title.. I think it all comes to the fact that Sony didn't show anything that would blow minds for this fall.

Between Sunset Overdrive, Forza and Halo Collection, I think software wise Microsoft got this year in the bag. I guess what some people were saying that 2015 will be the PS4's year (game-wise) ended up being true.
