Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

Overall I think Sony's conference showed the best games but the pacing was all wrong. Microsoft really nailed the presentation side of things.

This is how I feel, too. I chalk it up to it being Shawn's first time on stage. He brought out that retired method of quoting numbers. Hopefully he'll loosen up like Jack did after a while.

Don't worry I'm sure Nintendo has your back :D (Hate dudebro gaming as well)
I will give Microsoft credit, this year was such an improvement over last year. It was actually close unlike last year where Sony had zero competition. I hope Nintendo does not drop the ball and look worse than Ubisoft...

...Let's see how Nintendo manages to screw things up tomorrow.

Hopefully nothing too underwhelming. :P

EDIT: I wish they had shown TLG and FFXV...

Sony wins. They had an awesome 1st party showing, and nearly every big 3rd party game showed up. To any 'casual' viewer PS4 'has all the big games!' they want to play + much moar.

and let's not forget Project Morpheus, which leaves MS and Nintendo completely ass-out.

Sony 'won' E3 by a landslide.

Yep. If this wasn't impressive, you're delusional or can't be impressed. I'd love to see them tighten up the middle next year, but content wise, they nailed it.

Kind of weak conference aside from No Man's Sky.

- The Order gameplay demo was meh
- 10 mins on LittleBigPlanet 3 demo was way too long
- Mostly CG trailers with Project Beast, Dead Island 2, Let It Die, etc
- "TV TV TV" shit with Powers and Ratchet & Clank movie stuff
- Sony doesn't give a fuck about Vita
- Not much new: no Media Molecule, no SSM, no Sony Bend, no Guerilla, no TLG, no cool Morpheus demos or whatever
- Poorly paced. Started off strong and then huge bore for a long stretch. And then their big games at the end were multiplats (MKX, GTAV port, Batman)
- Uncharted 4 looked amazing but the reveal was too short. Was expecting/hoping for a gameplay demo.

See, this is exactly how I feel. And No Man's Sky isn't an exclusive. I mean the conference didn't really scream "I GOTTA GO GET A PS4 NOW!" It was more like "Come back again in 2015". That being said, I'm very glad they held some games for the end of the show, that half hour of people talking was brutal (and should've been summed up in less than 10 minutes).

Don't worry I'm sure Nintendo has your back :D (Hate dudebro gaming as well)

What the hell is this supposed to even mean? Would the inverse mean that I'm allowed to hate anything that has anime or manga design qualities? I thought people get burned for expressing shallow displeasure toward Japanese gaming around here. I hope there aren't any double standards on NeoGaf.

I'm really confused at how anyone is shitting on either of the the Big 2's conferences tonight. Sony was far too long and did not pace well. MS had a bit too much CGI going on. Both showed solid games.

People saying Sony was garbage or that MS is trash are just salty.

Facts:
Sony showed 22 games. (MS 22)
10 exclusives. (MS 10)
8 new announcements. (MS 6)

That is, if I counted right. (Reels and DLC counted as one. MS had 1 indie reel. Sony had indie and f2p reel)
Rundown of both pressers, should be accurate. Bolded are "new" announcements (some were leaked).

I think both were basically a wash in terms of game content, Sony just kind of killed their momentum with non-game talk in the middle.

The TV stuff was talk about ONE show! Why are people acting like it took a huge part? Layden talked more about PSNow and the PSTVita thing.

Because it dragged on for something they had nothing to show for.

And PSNow and PSTV had no business being on stage. Microsoft did something smart PR-wise finally in getting all the ancillary stuff out of the way.

Same goes for Oculus. It was just an announcement for people on the show floor about two new demos. Could have easily been a bloody email to attendees for what it was worth, which wasn't stage time.

I thought Sony's was decent, but also pretty underwhelming.

Quite a bit of non-gaming stuff and also WAAAAY too much use of "console debut" and "exclusive content." The Order looks incredible graphically but that really seemed like an odd demo to use for E3. I suspect it will show better in the coming months though, or at least I hope it will.

No Man's Sky looked incredible, probably the best game of Sony's conference in my opinion. Timed exclusivity is fairly big too but I wonder how long of an exclusivity period it is. Entwined also looked great. Was also nice to see new Uncharted and Bloodborne trailers and I suspect those will be the games that kill it at E3 next year for Sony.

They showed nice multiplats too but aside from that there really wasn't much. The 2014 lineup is looking rough to say the least but their 2015 is looking very promising.

Anyway, with just Nintendo left to go, here are how my grades shape up.

Microsoft - A
EA - F
Ubisoft - C-
Sony - B-

I'm excited to see what Nintendo brings to the table tomorrow. I think they have the opportunity to make a big impression.

+Far Cry 4
+No Man's Sky
+GTAV Next gen
+Batman

-fake letters and bad jokes
-TV nonsense
-Project Beast CG trailer
-Order looks bad

Rest was meh

Didnt see MS conference but it doesnt sound better.

Yeah, MS was more fast paced even if they also didn't show some "wow megaton" stuff. I was planning on buy a PS4 depending on the stuff they will shown tonight and yep... Looks like I'm not buying a PS4 anytime soon as well.

Yup, so MS won you over by showing mostly games that will also be on PS4?

The E3 cycle is almost complete now.

Are we at the stage where we put all faith on Nintendo?

iefFiskZ7Q5Eh.gif

Lol, i am in that stage right now!

This conference sucked for the most part.

funny how people rate "winning" on how entertaining the show was. Mostly because I would rate who won it more on who most likely sold more games and hardware due to the show. Hard to judge.

The cynicism is incredible. It's like most people spend more time complaining about videogames than actually playing and enjoying the games.

Just enjoy the fucking games. Jesus.

so did you guys see those hammerhead sharks in the GTAV trailer? they've added more animals! and more traffic. who knows what else.

GTAV getting upgraded not just visually but with new content is HUGE to me.

I don't think that's so bad comparatively. Sony's most interesting game to me and many others was a CG trailer (Bloodborne), a CG trailer is better than a CG teaser (Uncharted 4) and a CG trailer was definitely better than whatever was going on with Little Big Planet 3. Plus it had a CG trailer to Kamiya's new game and a new Phantom Dust.

tech we have already seen gameplay of blood borne

Pretty horrible conference.
No Last Guardian.
No Ace Combat Infinity PS4 announcement.

Pretty much all 3rd party stuff outside of Metal Gear looked so uninspired. The Farcry 4 bit springs to mind - just yawn inducing. Who plays that crap?

Bloodborne should be cool and some of those indie 2d shmups looked great - but everything else was meh to the max.

On all platforms, outside of a select few titles - gaming is getting rather stale these days.

8/10 for Sony, MS, Ubi
6/10 for EA

Sony needed a 5-10 minute gameplay video of Uncharted to seal the deal and have a fantastic E3. I have to say I am disappointed with the marketing of the Order. U4 isn't ready.. but why did 1886 not get a long gameplay demo? That was frankly far too short for a game that needs to blow up. I want it to do well. Maybe they aren't ready yet for it which is a bit worrying. They didn't even announce a release date.

Big games this year, Fracry 4, Destiny, LBP3, and Ass Unity seem to be my purchases for the rest of the year on top of TLOU remastered. I've just ordered Destiny on Amazon already, so I only have to buy the other 4 games. The rest will be indies by the looks of it.

No one blew it out of the park.

I liked this conference as much as MS's tbh. Not really bad, just decent, sometimes even good, but not that great. No mind-blowing suprrises, no megatons, etc. I'm left looking forward Grim Fandango and Uncharted the most.

All in all, Xbox One and PS4 are about even in terms of games I'm looking forward to in the near future.

People ripped Max Payne 3 a new asshole for the non skippable cutscenes and how long they were in general. The Order is worse this regard. The writing and direction is so damn predictable.

"Main character with lantern hears spooky noises and munching, he comes across a zombie, he watches in horror as it munches away. The zombie morphs into a monster thing, OH NO, IT OVERPOWERS BULLETS. Hero struggles to fight it, and when the monster lunges at the screen, cut to black to build suspense."

This would be neat if no other horror or creepy fiction ever existed.

I was wise to gauge my expectations. I feel like some people who thought it was garbage got their hopes to high.It started strong,The Order was giving off some REsident Evil 4 vibes and that was unexpected and interesting, Project Beast is real and looks cool, LBP3 was a super surprise (and huge for me because I was an xbox gamer last gen and really wanted LBP). Adam Boyes section was awesome as usual and damn near all the delvover games look great (Hotline Miami 2 is one of my anticpated games). Also it's amazing that in FC4 you can play with a friend without owning the game, that is legitimately impressive. The middle dragged unfortunately (Tv programming, bad selection of PSNOW titles etc). Mortal Kombat X looks great, and Uncharted 4 is absolutely Jaw Dropping considering that wsd in game.

Overall an 8/10, a megaton would have sent it over the top but I think MS may have topped them a bit.

It was an alright conference. I'm not sure if I think it's better or worse than MS's go. In both cases the most exciting and interesting looking titles were the indie games.

I thought overall it was pretty great. Powers/Ratchet movie brought it down a little, but the rest of the show was pretty solid. A lot of games piqued my interest, although a few fell flat or weren't things I was interested in in the first place.

Same, sony really dropped the ball tonight. Didn't help that the stupid e3 ps4 app stopped working 15 minutes in so I had to finish watching on my phone...

yeah, I hope a lot but can't blame them since almost 1st party studio said they didn't join E3 before, better show in 2015 then

Yea I was pretty let down. Too much tv and other crap focus. Not enough exclusives. I liked seeing a tad of Uncharted 4. Was hoping for a new god of war announcement, last guardian, gt7, etc. Even if they hinted that the last guardian was still in development would have been cool. Overall between both MS and Sony they both get a B- from me. I guess 2015 will be the big E3.

The only thing that really excited me was Bloodborne, and to a lesser extent, Uncharted 4. No Man's Sky looks cool, but being all procedurally generated makes me think the novelty will wear off quickly (hope I'm wrong).

Everything else was completely uninteresting to me.

Uncharted 4 trailer was a bit of a cocktease, but the graphics look outstanding, as expected.

All in all, solid show... but as I said in another thread -- and I'm not just pinning this on Sony -- the industry is in a trance to obsess over violence in upcoming big-budget games. I'm getting kind of tired of it. Yeah there are exceptions, yeah some of them are done in better taste, yes some big-budget games aren't excessive blood and gore, and YES there are indie titles galore. Still, I found myself rolling my eyes far too many times during this conference as blood and gore for blood and gore's sake was constantly shoved in my face.

When they started talking about the camera, I really thought they were going to do it...
So did everyone in the crowd, too, apparently because lots of people were laughing.

Uncharted 4 looks unbelievably good.
