Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

People can blame leaks for "ruining" these Conferences but its just feels like the industry is stuck in the same place as last gen. Relying on old franchises, remastering, and CG trailers has my burn out. Remember last gen when we had these new big ips like Gears and mass effect which were things you never see before. Now its just sequel, sequel, sequel.

LBP3 was a nice surprise... but this conference was shit.... some good stuff mixed with horrible presentation and terrible pacing.

MS wins on presentation. Pretty much a wash on games.

Uncharted is when I buy a PS4 for sure... but nothing shown yet makes me have to have a PS4.

Whereas MS sold me on Sunset Overdrive and Halo MC Collection.

I wanted to be sold on both.

really really disappointing conference....especially considering how good last year's was.

That middle part where they talked about non-game stuff was just really bad...

I suspect that that middle part was meant for Stig's game that got canceled. That middle section was too jarring for me to think that that was part of the original conference plan.

My grades so far:

MS: A
Sony: A
Ubi: B+
EA: F-

Please explain, because I find it very very hard to believe that the snoozefest I just watched matched Microsoft's conference presentation. Don't get me wrong, I am stoked for Uncharted and The Order.... but this conference as a whole was really poor.

I think both were basically a wash in terms of game content, Sony just kind of killed their momentum with non-game talk in the middle.

If this list is complete then Microsoft just beats out Sony for me with Ori + Inside. If those two are exclusive. Those are the only previously unrevealed games to catch my attention.

I actually thought the middle 30 minutes, with No Man's Sky was by far the highlight compared to the overall boring first and last 30 minutes.

By "middle 30 minutes" he means the stuff that happened after No Man's Sky. The Sony TV and the animated series and the Ratchet & Clank movie and so on.

solid conference but the pacing was terrible especially with PSNow guy, he took way too much time.

MS gets a 7/10
Sony gets a 8/10

So, absolutely nothing from Square-Enix at Sony's, and almost nothing all day long.

They're never been as much as a non-factor as this year. Really sad. =(

Batman getting delayed was probably the best thing could happen.

I would not want to compete with GTA V in the fall, especially since PC players still haven't gotten a taste yet.

Best thing was ND clearly ending Uncharted with the next one.

So they can get to the real stuff: Crash Bandicoot.

*Nervous laughter*

Sorry dudes, Sony completely killed MS on this conference.

Between the Grim Fandango remake, Ratched & Clank 1 remake, Entwined, LBP3 and MOTHERFUCKING Bloodborne, poor MS didn't stand a chance.

To give MS credit though, Sunset Overdrive still looks like a shitton of fun, and whenever I get an XB1 I'm definitely picking up Horizon 2.

:'(

MS did have a lot of multiplats, but at least they had a good number of exclusives, while this entire Sony E3 barely had any.

I'm not even going to list but I bet you anything Sony had probably a 2-1 or close or even more advantage as far as exclusives go. And that was just for games announced today.

As a taste of what's to come for multiplatform games, I enjoyed the conference a lot.

As far as convincing me I need to buy a PS4 right now, it probably fell short for me. The Order, LBP3, and the Infamous DLC looked interesting, but it may not be till Uncharted 4 is out that I finally will feel the need to buy a PS4 (I imagine those other titles will all be out then as well). As much as I felt series fatigue with all the Uncharted games, I don't think I could resist a new Naughty Dog game.

It was more enjoyable than MS conference and showed actual gameplay. I was surprised the were better than MS since it was much more hyped.

And Destiny alpha yessssssss!!!!

And still no suspend/resume.

Last year Sony killed MS. This year the Empire Struck Back, because that wasn't even them that died last year, it was Mattrick disguised as an Xbox.

I think Inside was announced as an exclusive, but it may be a "first on XBO" which is the same as Abzu technically for the PS4.

omg that was so awful. Tons of sequels, rehashes, and so little new that if it was shown I forgot. And then the TV Bit, and then no TLG or Lightning HD collection. The only game I want is AC Unity this fall. I can't believe I spent $400 on this. Joke's on me

ahh.gif

Lightning HD collection? No one want that crap.

Anyone else feel really rotten after hearing about all of that EXCLUSIVE content and those EXCLUSIVE features coming ONLY to PlayStation platforms?

I'm a purely Sony gamer, but I badmouthed this kind of behavior when Microsoft was the king of it. It's still as bad, if not worse with Sony.

This wasn't even bad in a Konami 2010, or Sony E3 2006 where you can glean funny moments from a trainwreck, this was a literal train wreck. So much cross-gen/multiplat/available on PC games that do nothing to get someone to buy a PS4. I guess there's the exclusive content, like TV shows and 4 days of exclusive access to a beta. Hooray.

speak for yourself. with backwards compatibility understandably not being an option on the PS4, i'm quite glad that i'll be able to pay full price for some of my favourite <year old games on my PS4.

For me, the conference was very underwhelming. Uncharted does look amazing, but it's a Fall 2015 title.. I think it all comes to the fact that Sony didn't show anything that would blow minds for this fall.

Between Sunset Overdrive, Forza and Halo Collection, I think software wise Microsoft got this year in the bag. I guess what some people were saying that 2015 will be the PS4's year (game-wise) ended up being true.

Honestly MS seems pretty stacked for the next 2 years based on their conference, and we didn't even see Quantum Break. Sony looked pretty empty for 2014 but they didn't show Drive Club -- I think that was a mistake.

My scores:
MS: B- (Too many cg trailers of games that are likely too far off. Great focus on games though! Halo should be awesome.)
Sony: B- (Started well, ended well, took a shit in the middle. The Order trailer was disappointing.)
Didn't watch the others yet.

When house started talking about the camera and value I totally thought he was about to announce they were going to bundle it as standard at the current rrp.

Winning e3 is also kind of a dumb and probably meaningless concept.

Both MS and Sony had great games, I play more on ps4 so some of the stuff tonight really seemed awesome to me. But in the end, Sony basically wasted 45 minutes of my night. At least MS kept it snappy, and I think they showed more gameplay (a lot of 3rd party stuff to be fair).

Walked away pretty meh from both, MS kept my attention more for that hour. No mans sky, ass creed, and far cry were the best.

I dunno seemed like MS had way more CG.

Inside-Timed

Ori- Exclusive

Sony actually had surprises, which gives them the win. Much better announcements than MS's somewhat bland conference. But HOLY CRAP at the non-games talk with YouTube announcements, R&C movie and the Powers show. That felt like an eternity. The last half of the show, sans Mortal Kombat/Batman/Uncharted was so bad.

Kind of a disappointing E3 this year. Bah.

Those nktrnl leaks dampened the impact of Microsoft's reveals. I'm extremely hyped for the Halo collection but I would probably have shit myself during it's reveal had I had no prior knowledge it's existence. Same goes for Bloodborne. What a great surprise that could've been. Despite that, both conferences were solid I felt. Hope Nintendo has a good showing tomorrow.

Dude, look at how next gen development is coming along. Increased budgets plus having to learn how to makes games for these machines obviously takes time. New IPs are risky as fuck if they aren't indie games or smaller AAA games published by Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo.

In my opinion Mortal Kombat stole the show but I know all the talk will be about that lame Uncharted teaser at the end. I'm sorry, but MKX just looked like everything I could've hoped for. New interesting characters in badass stages set to a grim fantasy setting. It blew me away.

I'll say this, Sony's exclusives didn't appeal to me last gen, they aren't appealing to me in this current gen. Little Big Planet 3 doesn't appeal to me, The Order doesn't appeal to me, Uncharted 4 doesn't appeal to me. Felt very safe, that if you liked what Sony did in the past, you'll like what they're doing now.

This is how I felt pretty much. I bought a PS3 to try Uncharted and u wasn't impressed. Now I feel like Sony just isn't making a lot of the stuff I want to play...

Guys ?? Where is my f**ing Lily Bergamo ?? Don't say me it's this Let It Die thing ?

Where is the girl ??

This I agree with. Other than obligatory TLG/BG&E2 that was my one disappointment. They should have shown that again and waited on Suda's next game. But I kinda feel with how slow Japan is in getting PS4 games ready maybe they had to save it for TGS :(

That was like my one disappointment misstep, Lily Bergamo gameplay right there if it looked anything like that old teaser trailer would have been amazing.

same problem as the MS presser, a lack of gameplay footage for their AAA exclusives...

I really wanted to see Uncharted 4 and Beast/Bloodborn in action... sigh.

disagree

Ms came out with awesome remakes of their own

and Crackdown/Scalebound/Fable etc were pretty cool

I'm sorry but this is very very subjective.

Crackdown, check. Halo 5 and MC collection, check. Scalebound, check. Forza Horizon, check. Sunset Overdrive, check. Fable, check. Phantom Dust (!!!), check.

I'm stoked fro The Order and Uncharted, but other than that, I was really let down by the lack of exclusives.

Drive Club has been shown and will continue to be shown on the floors and with trailers and such. I think it would be waste to pitch that game again. All the new and exclusive games they showed more than made up for that.

Does anybody else think MS took all the interesting AAA multi-plats reveals for themselves, with the exception of Batman and Far Cry 4?

Yeah, hadn't thought of that too much- I guess MS has forza, Sunset Overdrive, and halo? And Sony has Driveclub and LBP?

Both seem really week exclusive holiday lineups to me, I guess we're getting Destiny, COD, and BF too. Seems like 2014 is just a rough year for AAA games on these new machines to be honest. Slightly disappointed, but I should have known.

That's what I mean... LBP3 and Drive Club is kind of a weak offering from Sony. But third party games are indeed very strong for this year, specially October.. That month is insane.
