Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (Naughty Dog) Shown - 2015

Key word: IN ENGINE.

Meaning the same, pre-rendered cutscene tricks The Last of Us and Uncharted used on PS3. I'll believe this when I see it running in real time as gameplay.

It'll be the best looking 60FPS game on any console, probably by a fair margin. Hard to complain, if you think about it that way.

It's just disappointing that they're doing this yet again, in a new generation, and this time the compression will be much worse than before, with the video needing to be 1080@60fps plus increased game assets occupying more space on the disc. Blu-ray discs haven't increased in size, last time I checked.

On the other hand, we have Kojima doing really interesting stuff with one-shot cut-scenes that are dynamically integrated into gameplay, because they're actually real time.

He looks so fucking stupid with that horn. R.I.P MGS

Oh hey, it's the chronic regurgitator of "inside info" that actually originates from other people. thuway knows nothing. He doesn't even understand ND's usual bull-lingo. "In-engine" is what they have always said when talking about their pre-rendered cut-scenes. When this trailer started playing I was anxiously waiting for it to dynamically shift into gameplay. But of course, it never happened.

So what you're saying is, you don't know shit either and are just guessing? I'll trust ND and a guy who's been occasionally right over you.

I hope not, the box art for uncharted games are
personally
one of the best in the industry. This would be a step back.

Gonna disagree with you there, I don't think any of the Uncharteds have had particularly great box art. I really like this image though, the composition is much better.

I feel like this would be a step back from Marlowe and her organization, especially if things are supposed to be more serious.

Nah, but from the initial teaser it sounds like Drake and this other guy went looking for Pirate treasure in a like a pre-uncharted 1 setting, something fucked up and Drake left the other dude for dead. Now it seems like the other dude is coming after Drake and is forcing him to help him get the treasure. You add that plus all Drake's
psychological BS about making up being related to Sir Francis
and it's possible that this story is a lot better in terms of Drake on a personal level. Esepcially considering how old Drake appears. He also looks starved as well to be honest. Seems like it might follow the UC3 desert theme of being weak and continuing to go on, that kinda stuff.

He has way too many wrinkles to be under 40, maybe he is dehydrated but still looks at least 10 years older than U3.

He looks like he's stressed and worn out as hell from all the shit he's seen and done, which I think the trailer was trying to imply. Lots of stress can make people age faster.

Naughty Dog vs RAD

Yea this is signficantly better than The Order on a lot of different levels and you think ND capable of running twice the framerate at that same visual level?

Hell, TLOU didn't maintain a steady 30. They're not magicians.

This is a response I'm use to and I understand, but for me the box art for uncharted 1-3 are memorable.

"Geez guys, I'm really worried about this dark direction they're going with Uncharted 2."

Let's please not jump to conclusions based on a picture and a short teaser.

I don't understand the grimdark concerns. Druckmann and Straley worked on 2 of the 3 Uncharted games. I don't think they need your advice on what makes Uncharted/Nathan Drake tick.

How do you guys think The Order holds up compared to this? (im talking gfx)

The Order had a nice run at the top, bless it's heart.

Maybe the other guy is what "A Thief's End" is referring to.

I have no reason to believe him.

But I do hope it is.

Nor do I have any reason to believe you.
Edit: Nevermind, I saw ND's write-up. Carry on.

Wait what? Who is that?

The Order also isn't targeting 30+, hell it probably won't even keep a stable 30.

The Order is running 4xmsaa, they'd drop it if they weren't stable.

Yea this is signficantly better than The Order on a lot of different levels and you think ND capable of running twice the framerate at that same visual level?

Yeah, this is what has me doubting it. It significantly surpasses the Order in just about everyway AND it's running at a higher frame rate. I'm sorry, but there is no way, I simply don't believe it.

First they said TARGETING. It may not end up being 60 fps, so if it ends up being 30-45, yes I think they can outdo RAD. I'm not saying its going to be exactly like this video but ND will once again make people eat crow as usual.

Fair enough! I liked the Uncharted 2 art the best, as it captured the perilous adventure feel the best. I did like the smoldering wreckage of the plane on 3's cover, even if it had another 'Drake with gun over his shoulder' that the first game used.

My favorite part of the Uncharted box arts is actually the variation in color they use for the number and and line under the title. I geek out hard for that, as well as the titles themselves. Drake's Fortune, Among Thieves, Drake's Deception, and A Thief's End are all top notch subtitles in my opinion.

And the font they use for 4's subtitle combined with the red coloring for the number just looks great.

The fact that TLOU even runs on PS3 hardware is magic in itself. 256mb of RAM, man. 256MB OF RAM!

True, compression quality is a very valid concern. I hope they start using some very high end codec at least or else it'll either look like crap, or they won't be able to have more than 30min of cutscenes or so :\ Good point about MGS5 cutscenes, very innovative stuff and completely seamless to the point of making me giddy sometimes in Ground Zeroes. But then again, if MGS5 cutscene quality is seemingly so easely achievable without a single frame drop, who's to say these guys won't do the same with much better visual quality, not having to also target old ass hardware as a requirement.

Yes, uncharted 2 is also my favorite. It captures the feel of the game.

MGSV/UC4 hitting 1080p/60fps should honestly embarrass some of the "next gen" efforts so far. I know those 2 teams are the best of the best but damn that's fucking impressive.

I'm really concerned about Druckman's ego and Naughty Dog getting it's head up it's own ass after TLOU. Sure hope the inevitable gritty tone doesn't turn into a cringe fest.

? The point of a teaser is precisely to set the tone, to communicate the vision of a game. They are going in a darker direction here.

When call this little snippet "in-engine" I guess they are. Maybe the game will look as good, maybe it won't, but I do believe it's disingenous that they keep doing the same thing. They actually lied more prominently in the TLOU debut teaser, because their cut-scenes are recorded on eight PS3s at once, so it obviously couldn't be captured from a PS3 system. :P And in the case of TLOU they really did look considerably better than the actual gameplay stuff. They didn't even bother to have them have the same IQ as the actual game, like in the UC games.

Ah, whatever. Just annoyed with the overall shitty night.

Uncharted 4: Sully Dies
(For real this time)

Useless tease, really. Indicated to me that they have very little done yet and therefore can't give away / show anything. Terrible way to end the conference.

lmao, your powers of deduction are astounding.....
