Final Fantasy Type-0 HD coming to PS4/Xbox One (no Vita), Agito coming too (iOS/And)

A brand new FF that never released in the west and got amazing reception and sales in Japan is getting a beautiful remaster on PS4/XB1.

What's not to like ? :D

Most reports state this game would greatly benefit from a proper platform as well.It was restricted by PSP controls

Its a good FF game that released during the lightning years. I didn't get far but that opening was pretty gritty and dark. It had more emotion and made me care about the characters then the entirety of FFXIII did.

after watching vids....THE HYPE IS REAL

Thanks, cj. Wow. All these major publishers shunning the platforms kind of leads to a self fulfilling prophecy, eh? It's amazing what the Vita has done without many major games when you think about it.

Aaand missing the point. Not all Vita owners have a PS4 or Xbone.

I don't get why they just don't put the PSP version on psn.

Like they already have the translation for the next gen version, it'd be like 0 extra effort and it'd make people happy and create some goodwill instead of looking like a bunch of dickheads.

That's a really good point. They should.

just learn japanese you guys

you get to learn a new language and play a good video game

Probably just easier to get custom firmware.

Since there is no vita version, I'll just play the patched English version on the PC.

So I'm looking at gameplay of this (having never really been interested in it since it was never coming here) and it looks interesting. More action oriented than your traditional turn based FF title.

Also, a PS4 port will look great. The PSP version is held back by resolution and frame rate, and the lack of a second analog stick.

exactly what I was thinking :/

If this game is 2015 then I'm thinking FFXV got pushed to 2016. :|
FFX | X-2 HD didn't have any effect and it meant nothing in the bigger picture for their release schedules. They still released FFXIV ARR in late Summer/early Fall and Lightning Returns soon after (in Japan). I doubt FF Type-0 HD has anything to do with FFXV's release, though it might have to do with SQEX noticing they have a slot in their development & release schedule to do something like this now that LR & XIV ARR are out and they are transitioning to PS4Bone generation. Type-0 is a big game for Square Enix and it's been made pretty obvious after Type-0's PSP release that they weren't just going to abandon this game as far as a western release goes. They've always said they were trying to think of a way to bring Type-0 over, and now they probably noticed they had the resources & opportunity to do so, so they went with it.

This could also help FFXV sell more when there's already some kind of JRPG crowd on PS4Bone.

Because FFX/2 collection and Halo collection. A remaster of a single old PSP game is not worth more than $40, regardless of how good it is.
A single playthrough of FF Type-0 will probably be longer than Halos combined (and then there's the new game+ which adds some stuff). Type-0 also needs to be localized + they seem to be doing at least some kind of upgrades to the graphics. Improving graphics of a huge-ass JRPG like Type-0 isn't that small of a task, even if they don't go all out with it. Of course even taking all that to account, 60$ will probably be too much for a lot of people and will drive away potential buyers, if they do decide to price it that way. 40$ would be a sweet spot, but I'm not sure if they are going to go for it.

I really don't understand this conception people have regarding pricing for games that because a game originated/is released on a handheld/mobile means it can't be priced over a certain amount.

The Vita version mix up was a huge backstab man....

How the hell does a mistake like thst even happen. Is Japan getting a Vita version perhaps?

I've never played a final fantasy, I'm 20. For some reason however I'm really hype for this and 15. Hopefully they will be good starting points.

That's a really good point. They should.
Final Fantasy Type-0 is too big & important a project for them to just waste it on a digital only release for a platform that died almost five years ago in the west. That really would be a waste of a good game. It would also very likely be done at a loss, since localization costs a lot so they'd probably have to price it at at least 30-40$, and digital doesn't sell all that well at those prices.

Japanese can already play it on Vita, so I doubt it.

Don't expect much optimization.

I think we're talking about refinement not optimization. As you should be able to run a PSP game in 4k or there abouts with little effort on a PS4. So I assume we are talking about either gameplay refinements or more then likely graphics refinements to make it look prettier then a PSP game in HD.

But do you think they will not release this in Japan? And if they do, do you think it will be a PS4 exclusive with its tiny install base so far knowing they could double their sales with a Vita release?

They'll take the tepid sales in Japan because they expect (rightfully so) that it would sell a lot better in EU/NA on PS4 than Vita. I bet they hope it'll at least push the needle for PS4 sales a bit, since XV can be burdened with "saving" platform by itself. Unless they added a lot of content, I'm not even sure Type-0 would've sold well on Vita in Japan. It's a PSP game already playable on the machine.

Cheap interim game.

Not like FF XV is coming out soon.

you mean just like type-0 is going to be to them

So...like....Vita twitter campaign? Right guys? ;_;

Excited either way, I will definitely be buying it on the PS4. I know this has been answered a bunch of times before but how connected is the lore to the FFXIII world? I've been giving the game another shot and it would be nice to find out that I'm going to get a bit more out of Type-0 for it.

The fuck you're talking about? They are doing a HD remaster, which cost A LOT MORE than having then just translate/localize the game and put it online. In fact, they could easily simply use the translation on the PSP version that they are using as the base and put it on the PSN store, if they wanted, with no cost.

Then deal with the fact that you ARE going to miss a lot of the good stuff. It's that simple, and Type-0 is just one of many.

I'm dealing with it, complaining about it and calling SE on it.

You would think if this is going to be released in Japan, a HD port for the Vita would be the best route.

Of course for the west, PS4/X1 makes sense.

Entitlement? Seriously? The platform has gotten generally shit on since day one, and the main push for this game in the west came from the #sonyJRPG side of things. Add the fact that not only did it get announced for Vita, it then got taken away. There is a strong fanbase on the system that buys a ton of games (attach rates are insane) and this was the ONE game that people had been begging for since the launch of the system.

So if we're a bit salty, I think it's justified.

The PS Blog fuckup is truly unfortunate, but Vita isn't any more entitled to Type-0 than it was entitled to Monster Hunter. Sorry, dude.

I wonder what the retail price point will be for this when it launches.
Perhaps that's ultimately where Square Enix's intentions lie because they figure their diehard fans will be there Day 1 for this regardless of platform and you only get $40 out of them if there's a Vita version.

Something tells me we're looking at $59 in the United States and $69 in Canada. Remake logic won't apply because this has never been localized before nor is it part of a collection.

And yet we're getting all these localizations of niche Vita games left and right... NIS can afford to localize and fully dub Danganronpa 1 and 2, but Square can't do Type-0.

Flat-out bullshit.

Type-0/Agito, Lightning Saga, and XV are under the FNC banner.

They all share the same Gods/Goddess, etc..

poor souls they are

they should be happy it's coming to the west in the first place

so this is just squareenix being shit as always it's not like it's their first time doing something like this:

FFXIII
announced as PS3 exclusive ended up multiplat.
FFXIIIVS
announced as PS3 exclusive ended up on multiplat not even in the same gen. (PS3 never get it)
The Last remnant
muliplat, supposed to get PS3 version along with the other ended up never come to PS3.

.

except it's not like that at all, square enix never said it was officially coming to vita. someone messed up.

Good news I guess. I hope it will allow the team to address some of the flaws and make it a complete game this time.
I expect many disappointments if it's just a straight forward HD port without changes.

Eerily familiar to the FFXIII on 360 thread.
Yeah, I don't know why but I guess I thought the Sony fanboy part of the Final Fantasy fanbase would have died out after XIII but there is a lot of anger about the Xbox.

I have a PS4 and a Vita. Can't say I'm angry about this but also can't say I have any interest in buying a $60 PSP port.

Guess I'm gonna be doing some research because I literally have no idea what this game is. All I know about it is people really wanted it to come over.

Edit: Okay, a couple things. Are the social interactions basically s.links from the Persona games? And what is the difference between Agito and Type-0?
