Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (Naughty Dog) Shown - 2015

I am confident that they will debut the gameplay at VGX. We might get a stage demo next year at E3. Unless they completely rebooted the game after Amy's departure.

Yeah, I'd say that's a safe bet. The previous two games were teased at the VGAs with a gameplay debut at the following E3 ~6 months later (although I doubt there'll be a stage demo at the VGAs; just a gameplay-laden trailer).

Another franchise getting milked. 3 games is enough, let's get a new IP from this dev.

Hmmmmm well it's a new console so I see no issue with releasing a whole new storyline for it. If this is to be the end then why not, they will pump out another TLoU and then hopefully the new Space IP they seem to tease quite a bit.

I have to admit that the darker direction of the game worries me a little but i have faith in ND and the game will deliver

But Nate Without his jokes and his cool side is going to miss me :/

Not really a stage demo, I was talking more about another short teaser for story/gameplay. I do expect a demo at next E3 though.

Yeah... NO!

If they cant bring it back to the 2012 format, i doubt they will bother with the VGX.
I doubt Geoff will stick with the horrible 2013 format, lol. VGAs were always kind of special for Naughty Dog. Uncharted and The Last of Us made their debut there. Uncharted PS4 made its debut at Sony's Launch Event though, and not at VGX. If anything, we might get a short story teaser trailer atleast.

My bad you guys. I just heard someone had an appointment was going to see the game. Hence I assumed it was being shown behind closed doors. I sincerely apologize.
You should have realized by now that a lot of what you tweet is then picked by click-bait sites and then shared all over twitter, reddit and N4G. If you still can't realize this, and keep sharing such info without any proper source to back them up, you should just pull the plug on your twitter account.

I thought the 2012 format was pretty damn good. 2013 was Konami like just not as funny.

Anyway game looks absolutely amazing. I can't wait to see more.

Bad parrot.

New Nate looks like Oberyn

I mentioned that because of history. Uncharted 2 and 3 both had teasers at the VGAs and then full-blown stage demos at the following E3, but even though Uncharted 4 seems to following the inverse path, the VGAs don't strike me as the appropriate venue for a stage demo, so, as you say (and as I said ;)) we'll probably instead get a gameplay-inclusive trailer with the stage demo being saved for E3 next year.

Honestly I don't think we should ever forget Watch Dogs. Less is always more. The last game had issues with people complaining they pieced together the entire story just by trailers alone.

I think VGX should be used a test bed for another one of the myriad of Sony exclusives. Guerilla, Santa Monica, Beast Souls. Take your pick.

They should save this title for E3 2015.

upon seeing all the comparisons of engine vs gameplay in the 60 fps thread I believe this was gameplay 100%. so much so that i thought it was going to turn into gameplay when the camera zoomed out behind drake.

Deal with it, suckas.

That's the ideal scenario. It's ridiculous to use pre-rendered assets ESPECIALLY in 1080p/60fps. Where are they gonna store that data in the blu-ray? A 2 hour blu-ray film of the same quality would take near 40GB, so what kind of killer compression format are we gonna see here?

The last I will talk of this topic -- a suggestion, you just should have said that instead of your now deleted tweet. (why delete it? now a pertinent piece of the twitter conversation is missing to those who weren't awake in the middle of the night)

omergrd arne is here

Why is it so hard to get a simple confirmation that what we have seen in the trailer, is actual, representation of the visuals we will enjoy while playing the game in real time gameplay? I mean it shouldnt be so hard!

Is this trailer tweaked in any way as opposed to what we will see when we control Drake ourselves? Come on ND, this shouldnt be so hard to clarify once and for all... all this "in engine" talk is nothing but complicating simple things...

Mayhaps UC4 will ship with 3 BR discs :D

thuway is the only GAF user in my ignore list for a reason.

Anyway, can't wait to see gameplay footage. Hopefully they will show something this year!

Serious question. Does anyone know the difference between 'in-engine', 'in-game' and 'directly captured from'? I suppose in-game means that the final game will look similar but the other two I'm not sure. Any clues?

Nate's face has been bugging me in the trailer. He doesn't look anything like he did before. His UCGA->1->2->3 have felt like natural age progression but his face here looks too different. He looks like a mix of Gerald Butler and Richard Armitage here.

There you go.

GamingBolt’s Leonid Melikov bumped into Naughty Dog’s Studio Coordinator Rodney Reece and Lead FX Artist Keith Guerrette. Although we were not able to conduct a full fledged interview with them, the duo were able to confirm a few interesting points about the trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
They confirmed to us that the Uncharted 4 trailer showcased during Sony’s E3 2014 press conference was a part of an actual level in game. Secondly, they also confirmed that the entire trailer was running in real time on the PlayStation 4 and it was all in-engine.

guys, some guy outside my house just told me the world was gonna end in a couple months. i don't think we're gonna see this game :(

he totally nailed the 9/11 prediction so yeah.

Some games use for more impressive cutscenes pre-rendered videos since the system is not powerful to render the scene in real-time or to hide loading screens behind them.
For a less obvious transition the cutscenes are based on the normal game graphics and rendered with the actual game engine (sometimes enhanced with better anti-aliasing or higher quality effects). Just that the result is saved as a video. This is what is usually referred to as 'in-engine' because it shows what the engine is theoretically capable to do but doesn't necessarily reflect what the actual game during gameplay looks like. The alternative would be cg cutscenes that are just impressive looking cinematics but have nothing to do with the game engine.
'in-game' is from the actual game during gameplay running in real-time.
'directly captured from' means that for example, a console game is running on the actual console it is advertised for and not on a PC which otherwise wouldn't give a proper impression how the game runs/looks on the console.

Generally:

In-engine = rendered using the game's engine but not in real-time (i.e. it's just a video file)
In-game = rendered in real-time on the host device

"Directly captured from" is a deliberately uncertain term that can go either way. As others have said, ND in the past used it in reference to TLoU's pre-rendered trailer, but as per the Gaming Bolt link above it would seem it means real-time in this case... however, I wouldn't be surprised if the author interpreted the "directly captured" phrase as real-time.

Thanks a lot CopyCat, way clearer now. Well then, if this is real-time... holly hell. Still impressive otherwise.

Look Ma I try to tweet cool stuff so that people think I'm an insider, One day I might be famous on the internet, Yet it doesn't matter what or who I hurt along the way, as Long as I am cool typing in 140 Characters and make some click bait news article.... Look ma they call me insider... Yay....

UC4 Day One....

Arne, I just saw this, I sincerely, SINCERELY apologize. I promise you, I had zero malicious intent and delete it for one reason, and I swear to God, it was to make sure people didn't think what I said was right after you guys came out and told me I was wrong.

Once again, I'm sorry, and I hang my head in shame. I really am.

BTW the I can't talk about it part implied- I didn't know anything about it. I was under the assumption a behind closed doors gameplay demo was being shown off tommorow and I wouldn't be told about it due to NDA's. Guy's really, if you know me, you know I wouldn't randomly say bullshit like this.

Oh and Arne, if you would like proof, can I please pm you something? Thanks. and this is the last I'll even post about this. Thanks. Thank you so much guys.

Hopefully this is another step towards the whole "insider" (emphasis on the scare quotes) trend coming to an end. Being privy to the occasional gossip on twitter does not make you an insider. You are not famous, you are not a member of the industry. It's pretty obvious that most of these people are just hooked on the attention they get for occasionally regurgitating something that's true. But like that one particularly annoying poster here who's name I've already forgot, they're always going to end up being deservedly shunned into obscurity for peddling bullshit. It's not gonna end with a call from Kotaku or Polygon, lol.

Normally I'd avoid contributing towards a thread derail like this, but this has been a serious detriment to this forum lately and it deserves to be shamed.

Anyone notice that at the end of the very trailer there is something written on the cage with the skeleton in it?

"For we receive the due reward of our deeds"

I dont really know what to think about that Uncharted 4 scene on E3. Its simply super impressive, and if it turns out being like that in real time gameplay, then it will be the most impressive game of all the time!

Its kind unbelievable, but the other Uncharted games were pratically the same between their cut-scenes and gameplay transitions, and ND do not use CG on their Uncharted games. I really dont know how to feel about it... should I expect something that good while in-game?

Do yourself, us, and pretty much everybody a favor and stop pretending you're an insider.
