DRIVECLUB gets actual weather effects, screenshots inside

Has there been any footage of the multiplayer on the floor yet? Curious to see how the HUD works during multiplayer races.

Honestly, this is a Project Gotham name in everything but name. The Kudos, the weather, the low-ish in number but broad selection of cars and tracks/locales, the aesthetic (not to mention some of the staff!) just reeks of it. I'm glad it's getting people enthusiastic about driving games again. I can only hope the social aspect catches on... I think clubs of 6 members is basically perfect for this sort of title. Don't want any bigger than that.

PS. We're totally joining the same club, TJ ;)

A lot of talk about the amazing visuals, but in all of the E3 video's i've seen/heard, the Audio is also quite amazing. The tire screech when loosing traction actually sounds real (PD needs to take a hint). The car engine and exhaust is amazing (both the car being driven, and the opponents around you).

Back on visuals... for 30fps, the sensation of speed is unparalleled.

Agreed, which is why I'll never understand the "60fps or die" arguments. The game looks so good, and it's probably going to be the first racing game I'll enjoy in a long time.

I'm with you on the sound, too. Sony just needs to say "Yo, Evo, be a nice guy and give PD your sound files"

Something tells me they will be sharing for what they have. What use would it be to spend literally hundreds of hours doing something that has already been done. Only stubborn Japanese devs or contracts would make it so. Share the resources. These games take long enough.

Yeah when even BMW and Mercedes come asking for your audio files, for Kaz to refuse and/or not ask for assets would be criminal in my eyes. I love Gran Turismo, and I love Kaz. But when you're being shown up by the juniors on the team, it's time to eat some humble pie and make GT the legendary franchise it is.

The main thing that concerns me about delaying the weather is that the actual campaign/single-player will not take it into account at all, creating a disconnect as seen in Gran Turismo 5. Makes the game feel more janky and unfocused when no single-player races don't make use of the features that the game provides.

Don't do this. Please dont do this
It would be perfect!!
  • A MASSIVE Pacific Rift style island with a collection of different environments. Snow fields, deserts, mountain ranges, rain forests, a city and maybe all in an open world where you can drive the whole island freely between all the different environments and events.
  • Real time physics based lighting and weather. Snow, rain, hail, fog and maybe even some Apocalypse style extreme weather. Rain on the ground freezes as it gets colder/later and snow melts as it gets warmer as the sun rises.
  • Monster trucks with bazillions of trees that they can smash through.
...and every inch of it looking just as good as DriveClub. They just can't let MotorStorm go, it's too good and there's far too much potential on a machine as capable as the PS4 is. A more "open" MotorStorm seems to be what they wanted all along if the 2005 E3 Reveal Trailer is anything to go on.

Also, why the hell aren't MotorStorm and Pacific Rift available on the PSN? They'd both be an instant buy for me!! Come on Rushy, sort it out feller! :)

Evo are using a stealth approach. PD are too proud to take stuff from Evo, but if they request audio from BMW and Mercedes, they'll probably get Evo's audio files indirectly :)

Given Sony's belief that Music playback wasn't a widely used feature of the PS3 and it's subsequent removal from PS4, do we know anything about custom music tracks for Driveclub?

I'm worried that their lack of a system interface for developer music playback will mean it won't be included in Driveclub. Need dem beets.

Rushy is talking about Game Alerts, something that will allow us to notify players about things like Challenges and Club Invitations through the PS4 OS even if you're not playing the game.

This is not a new OS feature, it's been there from day one. It's been refined a bit in 1.70 though.

Never mind. It's already that way, I see. Carry on :)

But please tell me that black shadow bar where the points show up is placeholder? It looks really weird there when there's nothing being displayed.

Both DC and FH2 look very similar in tech to me, same raindrops on cars, same wet roads with full reflections, same dynamic ToD and weather and dynamic clouds and what not. Just the art style is different, DC is grim dark Scotland and Norway and FH2 is sunny and colorful France and Italy. Both look amazing and the differences really come down to what artistic direction you prefer, technically they're very close with DC doing a bit more with screen space reflections everywhere, but it's a minor thing.

Keep telling yourself that if it makes you happy.

It looks great, but they are definitely going for a different, stylized look (a tiny bit more cartoony--more like Need for Speed) in Forza Horizon 2. The lighting engine in DriveClub is on a different level IMO.

Well it's different to say it doesn't belong in the same generation, that's just hyperbole.

Saying that one game has a stylized focus is a non-sequitur to claims about the proficiency of the tech behind it. Saying the lighting is more impressive though, I think you can make that case, though we're a long way from having seen everything either game has to offer. I haven't been this excited for fall driving releases in a while. When this is what can be expected visually from the underdog of racing offerings, it's bound to be a good year.

Don't know what people get out of coming into every Driveclub thread to make comparison to Forza (vice versa as well), but if you insist.

The games do not look comparable. Forza Horizon 2 is an incredible looking game, and having played through the first, I have no doubt that the game will be amazing when it comes out. But people need to stop denying what is quite evident to the eyes.

Also both come from teams with a lot of ex-bizarre staff and it obviously shows with all the points and community features in both games. We're in for a great gen guys, it's only the first year and we're already getting some amazing games. 2015 is looking to be extremely loaded with high quality games on all main platforms.

The India tracks in Driveclub are pretty colourful, so don't forget to add that to your list.

Well that is quite a difference.

There's vehicle damage in this game right? The demo I saw showed cars bouncing off each other like bumper cars and looked awful.

This stinking game looks so stinkin pretty. Stinkin

Yes, the Forza game is going for something totally different than the detail and graphics of DC. Being open world, like pretty much any game, will limit it's graphical potential.

Forza Horizon clearly isn't at the same level of Driveclub graphically, backgrounds and cars detail, lighting, effects...the difference is so big that it isn't even arguable.
Only thing Forza has for it is the open world nature.
With that being said I think it's better to talk just about Driveclub in this thread.

What have you done? I want that game, naow!!1 Really hope they'll get back to Motorstorm some day.

How did I miss this? I haven't seen any E3 news for Ridge Racer 8!
LOL

I was gonna say it looks like NFS but the colors do look very Ridge Racer. I do give the game props for being open world but that's about the only thing it has over Driveclub (which is not what Evolution was going for anyway).

Yeah saw the footage on Gamersyde and DOES look very NFS.
but those gif's do look like RR I had to double check ,even the track looks familiar from RR7 with the little coloured flags.
But on topic I think I'm finally hitting that pre-order button on DC, it does look amazing.
