what's the Tower of Latria like? anything similar in Dark?

I was going to try to describe it as a mix of Duke's Archives, outdoor Sen's fortress, and maybe a hint of the swamp part of Blighttown (if my memory serves, which it might not), all wrapped in a dark, oppressive prison fortress atmosphere, but you should just search for it on youtube.

Excited to see the presentation but I don't think they will be showing gameplay. Probably loop the trailer and talk about features. I want to believe though! :D

No, bad idea. It needs to be played blind and discovered, not watched.

Oh? I personally loved 3-2 almost as much as 3-1...
I love everything to do with the giant beating heart, but the gargoyles and man centipedes are jokes and the swamp is tedious.

I'd say the atmosphere is sorta similar to the Depths in Dark Souls, but far creepier and with more interesting level design, and incredible sound.

Significant survival horror vibe. Very dreary and ominous throughout, almost oppressively so. The sound design is particularly notable; the first stage takes place in an elaborate, derelict prison and you hear loud, anguished moaning frequently from the inmates, contrasted with certain bits of melancholic music.

There are highly memorable Mind Flayer enemies (humanoids with Cthulhu-esque faces if you aren't familiar) who slowly patrol the area carrying ringing, glowing bells and can paralyze and subsequently one-shot you if you aren't careful.

There isn't really anything in either Dark Souls games like it.

Can someone say something to stop me from thinking this won't have a lot of weapon variation. This blade you see him carrying about seems to be quite important and multifunctional. I guess the different states of the weapon will allow for some different stances/move sets but i kind of like the weapon/move diversity in its spiritual predecessors.

not likely to happen. I've played a bit of DeS, but don't have and won't ever likely have a ps3 at this point.

(i'm also not likely to watch it on youtube, frankly:)

very glad From is doing a new environment/non-sequel. good stuff.

New Londo comes to mind

Those "things they love" include such series staple as full character customization. From the CG trailer showed at Sony's press conference and some early leaked footage, some people were concerned the game may star a single, unchanging protagonist. Miyazaki assures us this is not the case: Bloodborne will allow you to create you own character and will include tons of weapons and armor to adorn them with.

don't get your hopes up guys

likely it is just a live interview with the CG trailer playing in the background

there is a reason the game is behind doors.... they are not going to show it to the public

yeah...i'm expecting this. hopefully i'm wrong.

Will be tuning in most of the day after I run my errands. Love E3 coverage.

People were commending Nintendo for their treehouse thing but Sony has been basically doing the same thing with this. Lots of good info.

... Hmm. Is the areas of Latria supposed to represent something? I always thought that 3-1 was all about hope, whereas 3-2 was about reality, and 3-3 was simply when you met the thing that orchestrated this hell.

To a small extent, but I don't think it really approaches the overall effect Tower of Latria brings. New Londo is also a very small area.

I love when people leverage Demons Souls against Dark Souls as if they dont completely love both games immensely

There is literally no reason for a Souls fan to be anything but insanely thrilled at the consistent flow of awesome games we have seen since it started

I'm... not sure how I was doing that? I've said repeatedly that both Dark Souls and Demon's Souls are my twin games of the last generation, and whenever someone asks me to choose between the two as overall games, I refuse. That doesn't mean that they can't still be compared and contrasted in various ways.

I've never thought of it this way, but I like it.

I'm still really curious about the more-offensive approach to combat. If there ends up being a complete lack of shields in this game and they rely solely on a parry/dodge flow to the combat, I think that would be very interesting, if somewhat terrifying.
