Just finished game of thrones, pumped for this....

speaking of pumping... GOD damn, Ser Malcom going in during that hedge maze scene

As much as I loved this episode, I sorta wish it didn't happen.

I love it when shows don't feel the need to explain and lay out everything.

I hope they don't do this for all the characters.

There's not feeling the need to explain and lay everything out and there's being woefully obtuse about the macro-story driving the show. This episode filled in some much needed gaps. More specifically it showed us the real connection between Mina and Vanessa in a way that made me actually care to see what happens moving forward. I've enjoyed the show but Vanessa's push to find Mina has been the least interesting aspect of her character until tonight, IMO.

Eva Green proves again that she's the VIP of this show. Straight up tour-de-force. Her descent in madness/darkness was well-handled.

I wanted to see her naked, but not like that :/

This episode had a series feeling of menace all throughout. Also, Peter was gay, right? I wonder how he died. I'm making a bet that he's gonna come back as a vampire or something.

I wonder how many years have passed since the flashbacks of this episode and present day, cause Malcolm and Vanessa seem more friendly and less hostile in the present than in this flashback.

Maybe, but I don't think his refusing to kiss Vanessa in the maze necessarily proves anything, one way or the other.

If someone you've known as a friend since you were a young kid suddenly throws themselves at you, it can be a shocking thing. Plus, they went to great pains to emphasis how meek Peter was his whole life. He possible just didn't know how to act and panicked.

True.

But I mean... it was Eva Green throwing herself at him. Come on. And Vanessa did refer to the 'season of the inadequate beard'.

It could have been cause Peter's facial hair was unremarkable as heck.

Amazing episode.

Although it really made me notice how easy to manipulate I am. A character referring to a non-relative as a brother, sister, father, mother, etc, always works on me. It's something you know a person would only give away so sparingly that it just has enormous weight whenever it's used.

There's definitely an excellent and hilarious use for a gif of her ghost-fucking the devil somewhere on this forum, shame the scene is NSFW.

Lol. Napoleon, just got Proteus'd

indeed

Eva was spectacular tho..really mesmerizing..Glorious Wonder that She is.

Great episode that really answered a ton of questions. Eva Green was simply magnificent. Her whole descent into madness, and treatment was gripping stuff. She really brought the material the gravity and intensity it needed. Her scenes with Timothy Dalton were pretty awesome as well. The "walking" exchange was wonderful, as well. It's really a treat getting to watch those two work every week.

Her and Dalton overall are great together in scenes

I didnt catch the language the servant spoke to him at the table, what was it, if anyone knows??

this episode kinda proves that josh hartnett and the doctor who girl are not really needed.

green and dalton are for sure the most compelling here. add in frankenstein and caliban too.

Eva Green. Killing it.

I'm amused that certain people finally got their naked Eva...and it was probably NOT how they wanted her.

Also interesting at the visualization of the evil that Vanessa chose. Also interesting that she never really threw Sir Malcolm's infidelity back in his face.

This was really the best episode of the season for me Eva Green was just fantastic this just gives the first episode so much context and it's wonderful at first I was a little disappointed we were getting a full flash back episode but man by the end of it I was clapping.

Truly it's strongest episode yet.

This show keeps delivering. Everything's great. Eva Green is still a goddess. I'm so glad a second season is already guaranteed.

Best tv show now with game of thrones
You spelled Hannibal wrong but that's OK, typos happen to everyone.

I don't think Hartnett and Piper are bad in this show. In fact I enjoy both of their characters.

The problem is that Green and to a lesser extent Dalton and Treadaway are so strong they overshadow the rest of the cast.

Amazing episode. Just haunting. This show just kills it with the direction and music. Really disturbing scene at the surgery.

I like Harnett's character. I just can't stand Piper. She totally blows.

So whats the word on this show so far? Not reading the thread to avoid spoilers etc. How does it compare to some of my favorite shows like Game of Thrones, Spartacus, True Blood, etc?

Yeah, he's barely in it. He has a couple more scenes after that one but is just used as a punchline for a few jokes. The kids that surround him in that clip are the main characters.

It has fun performances and some amusing WTF scenes, but I feel like the plot hasn't really gotten started yet. They kickstarted it in the pilot and since then it's just been kinda simmering in the background.

If you can enjoy the recent few seasons of True Blood, you can and likely will certainly enjoy this.

So i'm going to give next week's episode a final chance, else I'm done with the show. It has ended up being too slow paced for me. They had a lot of really cool ideas, but literally EVERY episode is a set-up episode or a back story. It's been like what, 3 weeks since any plot advancement? They could have told that entire last episode's story in 15 minutes.

The acting has so far been really good, and Eva Green is nailing it, but I'm just waiting and waiting for something interesting to happen and it never does. A show about vampires and monsters and all we get is what feels like a vampire fanfic spin-off of Downton Abbey.

What you hate about it is exactly what I love about it.

“At its heart, Gothic Fiction is the introvert's "Hero's Journey" where heroes and heroines must navigate the uncharted territory of the mind in order to solve the mystery of their life's adventure.”
― Barrymore Tebbs

The monsters in alot of ways are just set pieces.
