Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

So if DLC is true and the SAL leak is all the newcomers (for convenience lets ignore potential cut vets) rank the 5 characters you'd most want to see for DLC either from new IP not seen in Smash or characters from series already in the game

1. Inkling (Splatoon)
2. Isaac (Golden Sun)
3. Ridley (Metroid)
4. Blaziken (Pokemon)
5. Captain Fleming (Codename S.T.E.A.M.)

1-3. Captain Toad
4. Inkling
5. Captain Toad

I REALLY think it will be requested characters mainly that didn't make the cut or characters they didn't have time to finish before the deadline. Look at most of the Capcom side of Ultimate and it was characters that would be bought the hell up easily if they were DLC.

Though I feel the "casual" wii era characters that seem to be abundant in the roster are DLC worthy. If Chorus Kids are truly in, should have been in the list of DLC instead and we get a retro instead. He basically lied about that too. No new comers in the vanilla cast seem to be from anything during the SNES or N64 era or non highly respected classic characters like Pac Man. Chrom would have been appropriate DLC too, would have been bought, but doesn't look good in the initial list of FE characters. Lucas (a Japan only cut, obscures that can fight reduced to AT status). Really feels like Sakurai had his hands tied by the marketting team more than anything else.

Pacman and Mega Man probably do count as the retro reps in all honesty. And why should the Chorus Men have been DLC? Rhythm Heaven's a pretty big series.

Anyway, if we got DLC, I'd expect stuff around the likes of:
1. Lucas (if he's cut)
2. Maaybe Squirtle and Ivysaur
3. Toon Zelda
4. Any unfinished characters
5. Doctor Mario costume?

The last thing I'd expect is something like Ridley (who's a boss) or Isaac (who's an AT). So no Waluigi :(

I think people should actually trust Sakurai with the beginning roster.

People tend to get hung up on one or two characters and then reject the entire roster as terrible.

Does anyone know if Mr. Game and Watch was confirmed? He was in the video for Pac-Man and I am not sure why they would do that unless he was in the game.

G&W's appearance wasn't a confirmation, it was just a "hey here's a reference for you kids to understand how old Pac-Man is."

Course, Mr. Game & Watch is a character created for Smash Bros., so he's probably not going anywhere if he's popping up on video.

I know Little Mac had a Wii game, but isn't he classic NES?

We have plenty of classic characters already, I don't see why adding in some younger blood is an issue.

At this point, I feel like we should just have someone create a universally agreed upon short list of enhancements and have a big twitter RT campaign or have someone Nintendo:
I would like to ask some question, if some of those element are actually needed or would create some other problems:

Movement:
- Increase in the window of time to dash back and forward
Dash-Dancing always looked stupid for me. I would cut it alone for this reason and i guess Sakurai would agree, since he included Tripping. It also undermines some balance possibility in my opinion. With Dash-Dancing you can go around the turn-around animation, which properly has some balance use for the developers. I know, it is great for mind-games, but it counters a problem, which was meant to be a problem for some speedy characters.

Movement:
- Ability to keep all forward momentum when jumping out of a dash
Here i'm not sure. How good does momentum work with Project M Online-Mode (does it still have one?)? I could see the team behind Brawl changing it, because it makes it harder to create a stable Online-Mode. With fixed momentum you don't need to send too much information to the other console. The game can guess, which direction the character will move and only needs to check for small corrections. With non-fixed momentum there coming a lot of variables and possibilities in the mix, which could slow down the connection.
It is the main reason, Nintendo doesn't want to including an Online-Mode for there platformers, since it would need to change the known physics of there games. Shooters, Racing-games and other genres go around those problem with the already mention guesswork.

Offense
- Cast wide reduction in landing lag frames when using aerials close to the ground
- Cast wide reduction on cool down frames after throws for easier followups
I actually would guess, that the team is still fine tuning those elements, and i hope, they speed them up and make them feel right. There is properly some angst with a high cool down after throws, since they could create some deadly chain-grabs. They have properly started high at the beginning of the fine-tuning and will lower it through the next months to find a great middle ground. We and they don't want a Dedede 2.0 ("Don't get grabbed!")

I would appreciate that everyone would help me out with gathering the information but I will start with rough draft.

Wire-Frame Little Mac isn't in

Nobody predicted Greninja though.
And technically neither did the leak so I don't why that's being brought up again.

[LEAK] Ganondorf in Super Smash Bros Wii U / 3DS? - Moveset Changes & Analysis
It is very blurry. I tend to believe it because I can see why someone would distort the image.
You believe it because it is blurry and you don't know why someone would blur it? How about to disguise the obvious photoshop they made?

And technically neither did the leak so I don't why that's being brought up again.

Because we were recently given a reason for why it said "Pokemon XY", it was decided on before Greninja had a name, and that's what it was referred to as. And the second post was a joke.

Adding some introduction and final comments is important. English is not my native language, but my suggestion is something like this:

but written much better of course.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I intended. So, does anyone here know how I can put that up in a text link to share via Twitter?

Why hasn't Mr. Game & Watch been added to the roster collage yet? Hopefully we still get Takamaru!

I knew you were a bro/broette. :)

And technically neither did the leak so I don't why that's being brought up again.

Yes he did. Greninja was known as a Pokemon from X/Y during development because Greninja didn't have a name yet (or even a final design).

We know a slot was reserved for an X/Y Pokemon, and Sakurai even said it was vague on purpose because they weren't sure who to use yet.

That little bit of info from the round table actually secured my faith in the leak.

The roster and presentation is the least of my concerns. Sakurai has already delivered. I want the gameplay to be as tight as it can be, removing jump momentum after a dash is weird to me. Maybe it's for the demo, Samurai pls.

Fuckin lol @ Sakurai "lying" about the roster.

The only way I'll be even slightly disappointed is if Lucas (and Ivysaur, Squirtle, and Snake) are cut. The ones in parenthesis I have already come to terms with. But there's no reason to cut Lucas.

Otherwise I love the Gematsu leaked characters. I'd prefer a different Awakening character to Chrom, but it's whatever. And I don't think all of the newcomers have been leaked. I think we'll get at least a couple secret newcomers. Of the ones not mentioned in Gematsu, I think Takamaru and Ridley are good bets (I know, lolRidley). Also maaaaybe Jill (Drill Dozer). I don't think we've seen her AT yet right? She'd be a good AT graduate.

Anyway, I have complete confidence that the roster will touch 50 slots. And to do that, all returning characters (minus Ivysaur, Squirtle, and Snake) must come back, Gematsu is right (minus Lucas getting cut, because in the leak it wasn't a done deal), and we'll at least have two additional secret newcomers.

It was more of sucess with casual wasn't it? I'm not familar with how it did outside of Japan, where it did significantly well? I'm a Nintendo trivia fanatic so I was aware of them, but many dedicated gamers on here didn't even know who they were. When I was at BB the people who knew what RH was did not remember the Chior Kids.

Which is why they either were not good representatives of the series or they should have looked at who people interested in RH characters actually wanted which were usually RH girl or the wrestler as I said earlier. If the leaker actually confused them with Marshall I would understand, but if its those kids, it was not a good call to me.

Yes, but that still means they never predicted Greninja by name. I mean you say nobody else predicted Greninja by name so why do they get a free pass?

As for the second post:
Yeah, we have seen some little things to believe that Ice Climbers, Captain Falcon, and Ness are in. I am also inclined to believe the blurry picture that shows Ganondorf.
You don't repeat jokes like that. He's serious.

Would glitches be fine to mention?

If so here's two:

Instance of Kirby's Final Smash glitching on the final hit leaving victim trapped in mid-air unable to move and constantly spinning.

Right at the start of a sudden death match Samus falls through the solid floor and is KO'd

Unlockable is my guess. If you remember Brawl, the unlockables were not announced until the game was released. Luigi was the exception since it was his year.

Lucario, Toon Link and Marth are starters now I guess? And also Sonic (who was revealed before Brawl came out)

Toon Link seems like such a weird character to be a starter. I also don't think Megaman and Pacman will be starters either.

3. Ridley from Metroid

5. Takamaru from The Mystery of Murasame Castle

I don't fucking believe this.

I'm gonna need to see proof. Chunky hasn't been seen since 64, him appearing as an Assist Trophy of all things stretches the imagination.
DK didn't have any ATs in Brawl, and it's big enough to get a few of them. I don't think Chunky will be the only one.

I completely missed the Pac Man reveal. I saw pics and thought "ohh fake as shit" and continued to become more confused as people continued to treat them as real.

How did they mess up one of their biggest character reveals so badly?

At this point, I feel like we should just have someone create a universally agreed upon short list of enhancements and have a big twitter RT campaign or have someone Nintendo:

Movement:

- Increase in the window of time to dash back and forward
- Ability to cancel dash animations into crouches
- Ability to keep all forward momentum when jumping out of a dash

Offense

- Cast wide reduction in landing lag frames when using aerials close to the ground
- Cast wide reduction on cool down frames after throws for easier followups

This should be enough right? Just package it together in a nice text file link in a tweet with #MakeTheBestSmash or some encouraging thing like that, maybe with an eloquent foreword and let it out.
I am on board with this.

I suggest rephrasing a few things though. While I know the first point is about dash dancing since we talk about it a lot, the wording is unclear. I am not sure how to word it properly though.

I would rephrase some like this:
"Allow dashes to be crouch-canceled."
"Retain dash momentum when jumping."
"Reduce landing recovery frames after aerial attacks."
"Reduce recovery frames after throwing."

Just my two cents. We should try to be clear and concise. Maybe my wording could be improved as well.

Edit: we should also add something about the netcode. If we are voicing our concerns, this is #1.

I must have missed the boat on this, but why does Takamaru's name keep coming up? Did Sakurai say something to imply he would be/could be in?

Ryce said:

Funky Kong confirmed? With the same absurd voice actor he had in MKWii?

I don't think so. RH is a lot more popular among dedicated Nintendo fans as far as I know, it's not really well known to casual markets. Its basically a more obscure Wario Ware. The Chorus Men are also the "main" character of the DS version (they appeared on the box and in all promotional materials, they made cameos in other games), which is the best selling one. They also, unlike Wrestler or Girl, are musicians, which is something obviously more thematically true to RH than the other characters. You really shouldn't try to rgue these points when you seem to have a shallow understanding of what you're talking about.

Yes, but that still means they never predicted Greninja by name. I mean you say nobody else predicted Greninja by name so why do they get a free pass?

Oh, fun glitch ( I hope it's a glitch...) I noticed at the smash-fest, dunno if it's been brought up. But if you're standing on the platforms of skyloft as the stage is changing you'll pass right through whatever new stage elements pop up and fly away with the platform you were standing on.

DK didn't have any ATs in Brawl, and it's big enough to get a few of them. I don't think Chunky will be the only one.

I just mean without any pictures I find it hard to believe this guy stumbled upon Chunky, and then happened to pull a Cranky Trophy (I haven't heard anyone mention finding trophies in Smash Run in the demo), it just sounds fake.

Reminds me back before Brawl during one of the big demos we had people claiming stuff like Duster and Sothe were ATs. Actually I remember people claiming they were "cut", but pictures of them never materialized.

Does toon link still have the same voice from wind waker or he had a different voice from spirit tracks? Im wondering about that.

DLC lists?

0. Mike Jones from StarTropics
1. Takamaru from The Mysterious Murasame Castle (if he's currently not in the main roster)/ Lip from Panel de Pon

...

To be honest, with these three I'll pretty much be done with roster desires forever.

ALSO, no more tilting the character select screen with the C-Stick. RIP cool feature. ;~;
Thank goodness. That crap got old fast.

Alright, Skull Hydra and Batty, today is last day of E3. If your condition for bet didn't met the requirement then I will have avatars ready for both of you tonight.
*Sigh* You'll have to get in line though. Troubled Bat gets to choose my avatar for two weeks first.

Yeah... I guess that is kinda shady. Especially since it was being pushed as "K. Rool can be in!". It'd be cool to see though.

With the customizable special moves there is actually more of a reason to be cut. Unless he comes back with a new move set.

I guess by that logic it makes sense to cut any character that share specials. Luigi, Falco, Tink.

I mean Lucas has no reason to be cut because of the way he represents Mother. You wouldn't cut Falco just because you can give his B move properties to Fox. You keep him because he's important to Starfox, and Smash fans.

The whole thing with Greninja makes me think Sakurai is told a lot of basic information and bases the future roster off of it.

I could imagine him perhaps always planning to include the next FE Lord, even before Chrom was finalized. I wouldn't be surprised if Awakening's popularity perhaps led to Ike being allowed to stay.

Makes me wonder if perhaps the Pokemon Company also informed him of ORAS ahead of time and we have a "Pokemon from ORAS" slot open.

Takamaru seems kinda redundant in a roster with Greninja and Shiek.

(Yeah I know he's a samurai and not a ninja but between the two of them they cover most of his abilities)

And they gave the official name for Greninja. You expected him to give a name to character, when Sakurai didn't even have one?
You're so fixated with this new info about the original working name you're not reading what is being said. You're saying they could not give the name for a Pokémon that had no name, but with that logic neither could anyone else so of course no one predicted Greninja much like the leaker. People however did guess a Pokémon from X and Y may make the cut so it was a prediction people made. Thus once again it can still be classed under the lucky guess label if people so wish.

Wii Fit Trainer is still the most out of the hat prediction which is why the first leak is the most credible.

But I also have a friend who was with me who was very into the series explain that there presence was not strong enough to him to qualify them as playable and he was extremely knowledgable if the series. It really doesn't matter if anyone from the series can do what they can. Especially if he has the resorting to refrencing minigames from some of the other characters.

I guess its mainly opinionated, but as far as I can tell from reactions, it wasn't a good idea.

I'm knowledgable about RH, and I can tell you Chorus Kids are a fine addition. There's no star of the series. And Chorus Kids present an interesting potential playstyle.

Also naming Mii Fighters by name. That's probably what convinced me.
