Destiny Alpha Thread: Impressions from the wild [Code Begging=ban]

Question I've been playing the beta for about an hour now is the only way to get "missions" from the blue light things on the ground? Or are quest given to you from the orbit too?
Because the "missions" feel a bit repetitive so far.

Is there something I'm missing? The bosses (Spider Tank and orb dude) in the level 6 strike are bullet sponges like I've never seen before. I'm using level 6-7 gear. It isn't challenging, just tedious. If it isn't something I'm doing wrong, game may not be for me.

Game is also pretty choppy for some reason. I'm guessing it's sub-30FPS. Needs 60FPS or locked 30 with motion blur out the ass.

How big of a variety is there with the missions you pick up during the exploration mode? I did three and two were kill X amount of enemies and the other was collect flags by killing enemies.

Spider Tank you hit a leg, then hit the body for big damage. Designed for multiple people really.

I've gotten one to scout an area, to kill scavengers and get a drop from them, and to get information from computers thus far.

There really isn't much variety, and it's one of my main criticisms (exploration mode in general). But I'm gonna assume it's mostly due to it being Alpha.

Definitely over-reacted to the vehicles being OP, they aren't that bad.

MP is... different. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet, but it's certainly fun. Takes elements from quite a few other games. Need to spend more time with it to see how I really feel about it but I have enjoyed the few games I've played.

This game is already sinking it's hooks into me... really hope my friend gets a code tomorrow so we can romp through co-op and MP together.

EDIT: Just joined the GAF clan, will try to connect with some of you tomorrow!

Each leg was still taking many magazines from my uncommon 73 attack auto rifle (900 rate of fire!) and I was being reasonably accurate. Also was playing in a full fireteam. The body also didn't seem to take increased damage after being knocked down. Is there a weak point?

A red area appears behind its head when knocked down!

"Go here, kill that"

"Collect these things from dead enemies"

"Go here, look at that"

That's about it. Basically standard-fare MMO quests. Needs a little more variety, but at least it's more fun to walk around and kill things in Destiny than it is in most MMOs.

73 damage is garbage...

You need to get a sniper or upgrade your weapons. You can do 700 damage a hit with the sniper on the leg. Once you blow up the leg, a red core will be exposed and you can do even more damage there.

Posting for new page but is there a crafting vendor in the Tower? I can't seem to find one.

For a level 6 character?

Is there a reliable method to farm better weapons? Game isn't really being clear on what I should be doing. I played the story mission twice and got to level 5. Then I played the strike, barely made it through but that's my fault for being under leveled. Came back at level 6 with that auto rifle and didn't do much better.

For a level 6 character it's fine, just don't expect to blaze through the Strike missions when your fire team doesn't have great gear.

As I said, if you can get a Sniper it will help immensely because sniping the legs can net you 600-700 damage with each shot. If your whole team focus fires on one leg, it can go down in 5 minutes or less.

wow just did the strike mission on legend that was so damn difficult unfortunately the reward was not worth the effort =(

It was so long too, by the time we got to the spider thing I had to pee so bad. After killing that beast I thought we were done, nope spike ball thing. I had to get into cover and take a bathroom break, thought my bladder was going to erupt, lol.

The reward, yeah. Not the greatest.

For slow downloads try using google or open dns settings on your network connection: use 8.8.8.8 as primary dns and 8.8.4.4 as secondary. You can find this in settings->network connection. Select your connection and use manual settings. Use default/automatic for every screen and use those above settings when you get to DNS.

I'm guessing attack values are class-relative? As in, a 50 attack sniper rifle might deal far more damage than a 50 attack auto rifle?

Having played a bit: This game could really do without ADS. I feel like it detracts a ton from the game and doesn't add anything.
Personally, I would be fine with it if they didn't introduce the accuracy penalties when you jump and when you don't use ADS. I mean, seriously, why would they give us all these cool new movement options (slide, double jump, hover, etc) and then introduce ADS and accuracy penalties? It almost feels like the game has an identity crisis or something. It doesn't make sense.

Yep! Just keep playing and it'll become clear.

Just ran into a strange bug where the contrast of the graphics were extremely blown out and it made it very difficult to see in low light areas. The entire image would become dim in shadowed areas (including the UI overlay)

I restarted my PS4 and it went away completely and reverted it back to normal.

I wish I could tell what triggered it or how to replicate it, but it's only happened once over 10-15 hours of play.

Yeah, feeling the same thing it seems a little choppy and needs some better aa solution. But this is alpha and usually framerate and performance gets worked on in the final month so I am not too worried in the final product.

Yeah, fuck that strike mission. Slogged through those bosses. Then we finally got to the sphere boss. We must have spent 20 minutes to get it to half health. Then we died. And sphere boss back to full health.

I turned off my ps4.

Is it going to be 60fps at launch? Or planned 30fps?

Gotta get home to play it, but stuck in LA for a bit longer.

They appear to have trouble hitting 30 as it is, so 60 is out of the question. The game would really benefit from 60. I'd take 900p 60fps if it were possible. Hopefully at the very least they can lock down 30 for the full release.

I am utterly shocked with this Alpha. Its so fucking good.

PVP is amazing! my first game i got 28 kills. i was going straight ham haha! The hunter class is amazing. Love throwing knifes at enemys. Feels fluid and badass.

One question folks, is Destiny a game that you can enjoy by yourself or is it entirely designed to be played with company?

I really like the game, I love all what I see and read, but I can't play it with a bunch of friends regularly, most of time I'll play it alone (online, but alone).

Just got done playing (for the day) with my buddy. Everything was really really smooth. There are a little nagging things about it, but overall I really like it. The Tower could use a little more life so to speak. A festival or something. It's kinda a cold place.

It's not a MMOFPS by any means but I do like the additions they made with interacting with others doing their quests. I died at the end of the first mission. It was a little harder than I thought. The enemies do seem to take cover and run away when you shoot for afar. Haven't play the Multiplayer yet, I dig into that this weekend.

Overall I really really impressed with the polish it has as a alpha (though they are releasing it this year). I post more impressions after the weekend.

You can play mist of it solo. Whenever you wanna do strike missions just head to the town and find some people to co-op with

Just hit level 8 and this game is AMAZING. It's halo core mechanics in a MMO/PSO like world. Man the loot, skills, etc. It's so much more skills based then borderlands in the boss fights and scenarios. The ability to casually join in with friends or strangers is great too.

This game went from Luke warm before E3 to a must buy. And the game looks to be brimming with content. Tomorrow I'll try out the Pvp combat

I'm up to ETA 40 hours now, meanwhile my connection is fine and I can download files off the net at 2 megabytes a second.

Fuck. Must be my local Sony download server since I know not everyone is having this problem. Though I saw a few earlier in the thread like me.

Alpha Impressions: Note to self, do not go all digital anytime soon.
I was having similar problems earlier, I shut down the system and logged back on and it picked up in download speed, still took 3 hours but it picked up

Bungie is never gonna go for 60fps. They have always prefered to make the skyboxes prettier, instead of improving the framerate.

Bungie is like that. The best thing we can do is hope they don't do another Reach (god, the framerate in that game was atrocious) and manage to lock it at 30fps.
