DRIVECLUB gets actual weather effects, screenshots inside

Any other previews/hands on with the game?
The handling has come on a long way since the initial demos. It feels a little on the realistic side of a typical arcade racer, and those whoo loved Metropolis Street Racer and larer project Gotham Racing should feel right at home, which includes us. The cars feel distinct too, we shot away from teh pack uphill in a powerful, but lightweight Super BAC Mono in one race; but then laboured at the back in the next race as our drifty, overpowered Mercedes SLS AMG hit patches of ice in Norway.

While Driveclub didn't feel as familiar as Horizon 2 did, it only took me a few seconds to feel like there was a bit more going on under the hood. Both games have a feel that rides between arcade and sim racing, but Driveclub fit my tastes a bit better; I felt that there was more car under my thumbs. It may be slightly more stiff feeling than Horizon 2's demo was, but I instantly felt connected to it, just as I did the last time I played. It's really easy to get into, but still feels convincing enough to satisfy the sim racing fan in me.

I don't even have a driver's license, but the graphics look so phenomenal that I'm very excited for this game. So beautiful, that lighting and attention to detail... Is that real-life? Shadow Fall, Second Son, Driveclub, The Order, Uncharted 4, heck even AC: Unity... This gen is really delivering graphically, IMO. Can't wait to check out the PS+ edition.

This is the most cringeworthy video ever:

Interviewer: But Driveclub, Driveclub had a great showing at E3"

Dev: "We weren't even there!

Interviewer goes on knowing he fucked up: "We got the game set up behind us people playing how is it going!?"

Gaming journalism.
It really was. I just felt sorry for Rushy having to endure that interviewer. All the guys from IGN seem like they try too hard.

I can't believe how much this game is basically PGR. Even right down to focusing on a single song as a theme (much like Shadow was for PGR4) across the game to tie different aspects together. The extra detail on the handling is just what I was hoping for.

Thank you, Mr. Talbot. Thank you.

You'll get some good practice here.

Probably confused it with Horizon 2 what with both games almost looking the same.

Lol the car in Forza looks worse than the environment. Am I the only one seeing that? Quite honestly that's what it looks like. Ugh what

Isn't the top gif "replay" footage? and the bottom gif "gameplay"?

Yep, that's what it looks like, unless you're driving the car Dukes of Hazard style while sitting on the window LOL.

The thing about lighting is that it changes depending on the time of day (Early AM you get the blue'ish colors while in the evening the colors are warmer. Comparing what looks to be Dawn pre sunrise images to a different time of day in Horizon and then claiming that the lighting is more realistic is silly imo.

This gif represents the time of day that has the sun up in the sky, no sense comparison sunrise or sunset pics unless we're picking the same time of day in Horizon, especially replay shots vs actual gameplay.

I have to disagree just on the graphics part. No game is doing what this game does. Most of these features are a first in racing games. I have no idea how one could overlook them.
PGR4 did a number of them, but none dynamic. I loved the feeling of aquaplaning over certain areas of tracks while they were wet in PGR4, can't wait for that again in DC.

Yeah, i'm really hoping that this becomes the hit that PGR never got to be (and I still don't know why/how it didn't become huge). There aren't a lot of arcade racers nowadays that are just pure racers without any of the usual directions for the genre in recent years (weapons/set-pieces/open-world), so hopefully this could be the beginning of a shift back toward that.

Yyyyup. I didn't mind the arcadey Criterion-fueled NFS games for the most part, but the shoehorned "story" in it was annoying as all hell. Plus weapons etc. Only games weapons worked well in was Blur, and that was closer to being a kart racer in that regard.

The attention to detail in the environments is very much a Bizarre/PGR flavour as well. If they introduced cities into the game via DLC, there'd be nothing setting it apart from the series.
Quebec would be nice

New videos look beautiful, but the gameplay looks more arcadey than I was hoping for. Still, interested to see how the final product turns out.

How did you like the PGR games? It looks to be closer to 4 than 3, which was markedly arcadier (but still the best feeling one of them all IMO).

No xbox, never played them. I am all for more arcade racers existing, I think the driving genre needs to make a solid comeback, this is just looking too much like the old NFS formula which doesn't interest me any more. Rather race tracks or an open world. Sorry, I know that goes against what a lot of you want.

yeah - i'm sure that's what happened...

They practically look like twins. I can tell where Drive Club ends and Horizon 2 begins.

You need to fix this now. Do you live in London? I can lend you my 360 with PGR3/4?

Seriously, you need to experience both to know just why so many people are excited for this game...

Hah, in Australia, thanks for the offer though :) I do tend to respect Shaneus' opinion about driving games [it's a flaw of mine, I know ;)] so I will keep up with this game and if I ever get around to getting a PS4 I will give it a burl.

If you ever happen to find a really cheap 360, definitely check out those racers. Also check out Hydro Thunder Hurricane and the obscenely underrated Sega Rally/Sega Rally Revo.

And yeah, shaneus is good people. I still don't forgive him for what he and TheOddOne did in the PGR5 thread though. That shit's unforgivable.

They didn't detail the underside of the game?

Miles you see this :)

Hell yes bro

Holy shit.

This is now officially my most hyped racer of the year. Yes, ahead of the magnificent looking Horizon 2.

Years and years of waiting. Years of playing PGR4 over and over again, each and every corner becoming so ingrained I could probably play the game with my eyes closed. To finally have a racer worthy of the PGR successor title.

I think I'm going to cry.

I dunno, seemed pretty smooth to me.

Please, do not misunderstand my question as an attack or smart arse hostility, but what in particular has you so excited about driveclub and forza horizon 2? How is driveclub (and forza horizon 2) any different from the previous iterations of racing games? Aren't they basically the same games with polished graphics and improved features?

Yes. They are new and improved racing games and people enjoy racing games.
For me it's the look and feel of the game and the fact it's occupying a middle ground between arcade and simulator which has me excited. Basically it's PGR for 2014 and i am aroused by that.

Hey, I was a number of months off and I had the name wrong, but is this not the PGR5 thread you were looking for?

There hasn't been a driving game so focused on delivering a flawless aesthetic since PGR4 on the 360. Games often try too hard when trying to encapsulate what it would feel like to take your own pride and joy supercar and race it amongst friends around the most enjoyable locations around the world. There's always some pathetic, jarring hook which always inevitably gets tiresome. NFS had you being chased by the cops and having to "level up" as either a cop or some kind of miscreant (let's ignore the stupid add-ons and power-ups that have plagued the game recently). Horizon is bro-ing out at some random music festival full of dudes and dudettes listening to Tiesto.

PGR (and now Driveclub) is taking a car, grabbing some mates (or enemies) and racing around picturesque tracks. You compete against each other for glory amongst your peers, but there's no endgame like being the bro-est dude at Lollapalooza or escaping the cops at the highest wanted level. It's all about the journey and NEVER about the destination. And when a game has an ethos like that in mind, you know the one thing they'll pay a HELL of a lot of attention to is how the game plays and feels across the entire experience. This is why I keep coming back to PGR4, despite it coming out in '07... it's tuned that well, that everything just feels right with it. It's the coolest bits of Fast and the Furious, but without the shitty storyline or the bros. Or having your very own Rendez-vous moment.

When it comes down to it, PGR and Driveclub are just classy that know what they're trying to do, and do it well without thinking they have to appeal to a wider audience by doing something lame.

There's no intention in this post to go on the attack for your question, so don't misconstrue it as such. I'm just incredibly passionate about these games and am trying to encapsulate what and why I feel the way I do about them :)
