E3 2014 | Nintendo Treehouse Live @ E3 [ it's over :( ]

Nothing.
They played Smash bross and a little bit Wii sport.
That's it.
Thanks

Next slide please.
LOL

Man. What a fun ride. I honestly must say that this is the best E3 that I've ever watched. Because its the first E3 that I consistently tried to be engaged after Tuesday. This Treehouse Live stuff was simply a joy. I felt like I was attending E3 truly. They played Smash so much that my hands tingled and I almost thought that the game was mine. This is how you excite fans and sell your product. This is how you market effectively. This is how you do E3. We all remeber certain moments at each Press Conference of E3's in the past. We all remember the news that would spill out in the later days afteerward. But never have I personally relished on a whole E3. All 4 days; with Nintendo being the main thing imprinted on my mind. This was beautiful and definitely reassures my faith that Nintendo will stay successful for years to come. They aren't perfect. No where near it. They don;t have an inkling of the 3rd party games found on a Sony or Xbox platform. But they do have fun. Pure and simple fun. A constant stream of it (no pun intended lol).

Treehouse idea worked out very well. Overall Nintendos approach to E3 was excellent and felt very fresh, to the point of making the severed heads and grimdark conference nonsense feel both old hat and at times a caricature/parody.

Nintendo is adding the individual game videos from Treehouse Live to their YouTube channel. Keep an eye out for today's SSB4 matches, I want to know if they're censored in any way, or if I have to log in to watch them, or something.

I wonder if Capcom look at the reactions Mega Man was getting in the Smash tournament and think hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Seriously, he's like the Daniel Bryan of video game characters. Popular guy who is getting shit on so the reactions and support get louder and louder in defiance of his poor treatment.

PUSH THAT MAN CAPCOM.

Treehouse Live was simply, amazing. Save for today (World Cup, bros!), the stream was constantly on. I just couldn't stop watching! The guys and gals from Treehouse are passionate and quite funny, so the experience was much relatable and enjoyable than a typical E3 presentation.

I'm definitely going to miss them, but I hope to see them all again next year. They made me feel I was there, even though I'm thousands and thousands of miles away. For that, I am absolutely grateful.

I skipped Smash today. Why would they be censored?

Like I said earlier, still super upset about Iwata not being able to make it. I bet he's proud of the team and all the work he's been putting into place for all of us coming to fruition must be awesome for him to see :)

The dead grandma joke stayed in the Mario Party 10 demo, so they might keep it here too :P

Just wondering if anyone already has their top 3 segments from the Treehouse Live?

The best stuff for me was seeing a deep dive into Xenoblade X and Bayonetta 1 and 2. Yoshi was really fun to watch too, with Mr.Tezuka showing concept designs for Yoshi in this game etc. Everything was really good tho.

The Mario Maker segments were my favorite ones. It was great to see them talking level design philosophy and it was so much fun watching them play the levels they created. They sold me tenfold on a barebones Mario level editor (I cannot wait to see what is in the finished product). :p

Past that, they were all pretty equal (and all great). I guess second would be Hyrule Warriors (went from no hype to day 1 on that game because of Treehouse) and Xenoblade Chronicles X (that game is just so beautiful and the demo did a fantastic job in showing that off). Honorable mentions to Splatoon (I cannot wait to dig into that game, hopefully with GAF!) and the Smash Bros. matches scattered about. Everything I watched during Treehouse was excellent, really.

I want them to do this every single year. It was so, so great and made this the best [Nintendo] E3 ever IMO

Who here remembers thinking that "Project Treehouse" would just be a secondary thing, with the Digital Event taking center stage, based on the Mega 64 video?

Man, we had no idea what we were in for! Treehouse stole the show by a country mile, which isn't to speak ill of the Direct: it was absolutely needed for the overview of everything in Project Treehouse.

Iwata, you're an excellent man for approving this (no idea if you also thought of this, but whoever thought of this deserves to be called "brilliant" at minimum, if not "genius"). Get well ASAP, if you aren't already!

1. Every Audrey segment.

Joking aside, I genuinely did enjoy the female commentary team the most. Their enthusiasm was infectious.

Oh I think that was another benefit of this format

We got to see a diverse set of presenters for the games.

Usually a criticism of e3 is the amount of males on stage

Agreed, it felt super tryhard and kinda dusty. Mortal Kombat just keeps upping the gory ante like an old shock rocker, and CoD keeps finding new adjectives for "futuristic". Micro and sony are blasting CG trailers on ultra HD stretch screens in live press conferences trying to outdo each other.

Meanwhile nintendo is showing shitloads of gameplay and new IP's over a three day stretch while keeping everyone salivating over 45 seconds of zelda teaser from a 45 min digital event. It's all tipsy turvy this year and I love it.

Thanks

To the bolded, I definitely feel the same. This stream had the same procedure as those of the people running the game booths themselves. It had the same pattern of talking to the devs, of being presented the game, and shown through all the levels. Granted, we couldn't play, but everything else was nailed fantastically. It gave everything that defined an E3 show floor experience and more.

Next year I want to see them add a nighttime show, 9pm pst, 12am est... where offsite they broadcast from a local bar, to do a live podcast with third party developers as guests and rope in regular folks to try out the game demos. Call it "Nintendo After Dark".

This is an amazing idea. My god, can you imagine the exposure? Everyone would be talking about it.

Sony and Microsoft will have live streams next year.

Sony already has a livestream. The problem is it's basically the exact same thing as the Gamespot or IGN shows except with Sony people as hosts. The Nintendo one works for a couple of very important reasons:

1. There's no third party content, both because there's not a lot of it, and because this is a Nintendo focused stream. This means it's mostly all Nintendo first party stuff, most of which is good and we actually care about.

2. Nintendo doesn't make demos designed for the current stage setups. They just put in builds and let the actual gameplay speak for itself. What you see is most likely what you'll buy in a few months.

3. Less games = longer time frames. Some games got up to an hour's worth of coverage.

4. The long time frames let them have lengthy interviews with the devs from Japan. Being run by Treehouse is also huge since the language barrier is less of an issue.

Add to that great games and cool personalities, and you have a good recipe for success. I don't know if the others can emulate that since they have to placate third parties and get everyone up there. In the last couple of years I've tried to watch the PSBlog show, the Gamespot stage show, IGN, and I could never stick with any of them. This was the first time where I stayed glued to the stream and loved almost everything they showed.

Treehouse stream was great.

The direct was lackluster imo, but watching the stream over the past few days bumped them to the top. Looking forward to the stream next year.

I've had the same experience. I think the difference is that with those other stage shows, it's always felt like the host and developer both are trying their hardest to sell the game to you. It feels like you're watching a commercial. Coupled with the fact that some times they'll sit there and talk for 15 minutes about a trailer (some times nothing but a CG trailer) and it quickly gets boring as they try to hype the viewer up as much as possible with very little substance. In contrast, the treehouse team just look like they're genuinely having fun, Maybe they're just convincing actors but even if that's the case, I couldn't tell so I didn't care. The developers also don't seem to be trying to sell you anything, they're just very passionate about their games and it shows. For the most part, it felt like there was very little bullshitting going on and that's what, to me at least, was a breathe of fresh air.

they did this in the gamecube launch days. they had these things called 'cube clubs' where in 2001 and 2002 they showcased unreleased games out in los angeles. in 2001 i remember playing luigi's mansion, rogue squadron, and melee there for the first time. in 2002 i was old enough to drive, so i went down with a friend. they showed the wind waker, metroid prime, and some other 2002 titles during the day, and after 6 or 7 pm opened up at night again with mostly m-rated games like resident evil 0 and die hard.

The trailer thing is a very good point. This was the first stage show I've seen where they actually revealed a ton of new content in the games rather than just regurgitating something you already saw. The CG trailer thing is really frustrating too. You shouldn't get stage time unless you actually have a demo to show.

I missed today's coverage :(, anything new besides Codename:Steam? Interested in seeing some Xenoblade X and Bayonetta 2 footage.

Edit: Just saw OP has link's to everything :D

Ahaha, that Project Giant Robot Brought To Life is amazing.

To those stragglers from Treehouse still reading here, bless you my children, and all that you have done. I can honestly say I was GLUED to E3 like never before. Even after watching JC Rodriguez's video on instagram, with all the Nintendo people lining up after the event shut down on the first or second day, just to play Smash Bros on Wii U, that energy was infectious.

I truly am going to be riding this high for more than a few days if not weeks now, so I give my thanks to all who made it possible.

Now let's see the mashup of Treehouse After Dark with accidental F-bombs and dead grandmas!

Just wondering if anyone already has their top 3 segments from the Treehouse Live?
1.) The Treehouse folks playing Project Giant Robot. I laughed so hard when their robot got laser beamed and then fell.

2.) Team NCL VS Team Treehouse in Splatoon with Nate being so competitive. I bet he was the one carrying the team. He's so competitive in everything. That's great. LOL

3.) Exactly

I had so much fun watching this. I hope Nintendo does this again at next year's E3 or at any major event they plan on attending.

fuck the treehouse. they convinced me of games i wouldnt normally buy if just shown at the digital event. im gonna be so broke :(
