Had no opportunity to watch Treehouse and that trailer in the DE was pretty underwhelming... Anyone have a few bullets on what the story of this game is about? Is it a direct sequel? Also I couldn't tell, whose the main character? Looked like a mute character creator or am I way off?

Spiritual sequel.
Basically, Earth is the battlegrounds for two alien races. Humanity escapes in giant arks.
The arks crash land on a new world. Humans try to conquer and rebuild this land.
There's another race that already lives there that doesn't like this.
The main character is your own character, which is custom made. He/She is mute, but the supporting characters carry the story.

The bolded; is that the case? What I'd gathered was that one of the alien species that participated in the war that destroyed Earth actively chased down the American ark-ship, causing it to crash-land on the planet that it did. Presumably, it is a member of that alien species that is talking about eliminating a "cancer" in the Digital Event trailer.

Granted, I suppose it's entirely possible that this is coincidentally the home planet of one of those two alien races, or that there's a third alien race entering the picture here, but the trailer/Treehouse streams didn't give me that impression.

I dunno, I do have a lot of questions about the whole scenario - things like, who were the two alien species? Did they choose a populated planet like Earth for the site of their battle for a reason? If not, why should either species care about the evacuee ships enough to actively attack them? Was the other species trying to defend humanity, and if so, will they show up later in the game, showing remorse for the loss of the old planet? Did any ark-ships other than the one holding NLA make it off Earth before it shattered?

I'm wondering if the dialog in the intro sheds light on any of this, but expecting most of the answers won't come until the game is in my hands. Admittedly the plot premise is a bit of a turn-off for me (I don't like plots where the Earth is explicitly destroyed, and have passed up experiences I'd probably have otherwise enjoyed over such plot events; I understand that virtually nobody else gets caught up on things like that, but I can't really help that I do), but I think my appreciation for the first Xenoblade (which I should really finish one of these days, only up to
Agniratha
) is mitigating my trepidations enough that I'm still interested in seeing where this goes.

Has anyone made any good gifs or webms of any of the live demos. Would love to add to my XBX gif collection.

Why did Nintendo had to call it "Xenoblade Chronicles X"? Now sellers have sold out of copies of the Wii game around here and I can't find a copy for the life of me.

It probably was takahasi's idea because this:

I apologize, I missed this, but has it already been confirmed about the nature of this game? By nature I mean is it a fully-fledged single-player RPG? only with online component in it?

There is no online whatsoever which has actually been announced or confirmed so far. It's definitely there, but they haven't talked about it. What they have shown is that it is a single player story RPG like Xenoblade with cutscenes and characters, yes.

Sawano is really good. He likes to get too bombastic, but if he can keep that urge at bay for any length of time the soundtrack will be incredible.

Oh?

Wonder what's up with the whole chatting text thingie back when they first revealed X then.

Thanks for posting this. Is it just me or did the game just suddenly go through a 200% increase in awesomeness after switching to a female player character? It just seems more unique.
EDIT: Video is down, go here - http://www.twitch.tv/nintendo/b/537795858 - skip to 4 hours in.

I keep trying to block Sawano's involvement in this out, but then I keep getting reminded of it.

I hope he isn't doing all of the soundtrack.

He is. I hope by the time the game is released the WiIU will have enough homebrew options to replace the soundtrack with construction noises instead. Would certainly be an improvement.

Wow, I really had no idea there was so much Sawano hate. I don't follow his music so I don't know what his other work is like, but just hearing the music big reveal scenes in the Treehouse gameplay (and trying to block out the droning voices that is unnecessarily describing exactly what we're seeing before we see it), I can't imagine there's anything to complain about. Freaking wow moments when the vocals kick in as we pan across the waterfall... And the beautiful build up as we're going down the hallway to Neo LA. This is world class stuff.

The music in the Treehouse gameplay is godlike.
I was a bit bummed out we wouldn't get the same composers as Xenoblade, but my fears were quelled by what I heard.

YES!

likewise. Love Sawano's music, especially the vocal tracks and OST of Unicorn.

I don't know if it'll match Xenoblade, but from what i hear, it'll definitely be an excellent one, hopefully.

It's strange how they got a guy who has only done anime as opposed to a videogame industry vet. I would have preferred Shimomura, Mitsuda, Hosoe, Ace+, anyone. The music won't live up to Xenoblade's.

Shimomura alone would have been perfect in my opinion, easily my favorite video game composer. The rest of the music was nice too but damn, just listen to these

Holy shit.

So yeah, not very excited about Sawano but I guess we'll see

this thread is making me really want to play the first game. come on Nintendo make the first game part of the WiiU package (like Bayo 1 w Bayo 2)

I'm still kind of uneasy about the vocal pieces. If Sawano keeps up with the trend of hiring non-fluent speakers for the lyrics and vocals, the result could be utterly cringeworthy. I don't think I could take an endless loop of awful butchered German.

here's your chance:

If you got ~40 minutes to spare you should watch it.

finally somebody picked the best song (next to most
Mechonis field themes
), and I thought I was the only one who loved it.

I'm not very keen on Sawano either, I didn't like the song from the 1st trailer very much, but I kinda enjoyed the one from last years E3 trailer... Maybe because the visuals where just that good.

Guys, give Sawano a chance. And besides, we really don't know who are the other people involved in the game's music. I believe there will be others involved for specific themes, like Xenoblade Chronicles had.

I think so far so good for me.

He may not be the best with battle themes... but by god can he do brilliant main/ending themes!!!

If he does do a vocal song for this game, I hope whoever sings it doesn't mumble all the way through the song. I couldn't understand most of Beyond the Sky without looking at the lyrics.

So guys, how are you reacting to the character creation?

I lost my hype after seeing that we aren't going to follow a specific character story like we did with Shulk.

Funnily, the opposite happened for me: after seeing the character creation and how fleshed out it was, I was more hyped and ready to say farewell to whoever was going to be this game's Shulk :-p

Before E3 I thought that we would have a main quest like Xenoblade and the option of building a character for a multiplayer mode. I still want to play it, but I'm not so desperate like I was before.

There were dynamic music changes, but if you need to hear it without the talking there's always this demo.

Personally, I like it. I think it fits the setting very well.

Yeah, that's the character designer for Xenogears / Saga alright - I loved his artwork for Xenogears especially (was a bit more "meh" for Xenosaga 1), and it'll be interesting to see what character designs he comes up with this time around.

I know this is far off in the future, but I really hope they release another sort of artbook / maybe even something like a Perfect Works for this game.

At least the default male voice is Shulks VA. ;)

As long as the game has specific events/romance or the like I'll be fine with a silent protagonist. Especially if we can have the same kind of interactions with NPC's as Shulk had with other characters.

Oh, and I love how similar that girl with Monado hair clips looks to Kelvena.

Ah, well, I've gone along with the speculation in this thread that there's a main story, but that story's biggest moments could actually be told through the characters other than the player-created character. Like, if the player-created character is a standard soldier, it's sort of like the player is tagging along on an epic journey, which appeals to me in a different but not better or worse way than having a more dominant main character that pervades the story with his or her significance. But maybe there's a bigger significance to the player-created character that could be discovered later on, like in Knights of the Old Republic.

Tanaka's art was fine for Episode I. The team just didn't translate it very well, since they had never worked with 3D before.

It could be something like White Knight Chronicles, in that you create your own character but there are other main characters who drive the plot and do important stuff.

I assume that your character will do some of that "important stuff" throughout the game as well as the other characters.

I'm guessing that they are keeping the slot-able gems in some form. Best thing in Xenoblade was outfitting 7th with maxed out haste and double attack. Constant stream of attacks and numbers on the screen. I'm hoping they let us customize things to that extent.

I hope we have a selection of voices for the MC

Rihanna with that voice in the Treehouse demo was jarring as fuck.

I remember seeing "Space Rihanna" in the twitch chat.
