Destiny Alpha Thread: Impressions from the wild [Code Begging=ban]

Just got a code, though have two questions:

1. My code is redeemed on a US account, though I would like to play on my primary EU account. Is it possible to play this using the typical game sharing method across accounts on the same PS4?

2. If I have a PS Plus subscription on the EU account but not the US account where the alpha was redeemed, would I be able to play it? Or do I need a sub on the US account?

Why am I not seeing any loot drops/searchable containers? I thought this was supposed to be like Borderlands...

Yeah the loot isn't as plentiful as in Borderlands or Diablo. It's something I think they should work on. If they can get a loot system akin to Diablo, they'll have quite the addicting game on their hands.

When I kill a named boss or a tough enemy, I want to see some loot. If I spot a hidden cave, I want to see some loot. If I do really well in multplayer, I want to see some loot. In my dream world there would be different things like gun parts and scopes that you could pick up and mix and match with other guns you pick up. There's just a lot of stuff I'd like to see loot-wise that I'm not seeing.

the game has been a pleasant surprise after playing most of the night.

one problem though, is anyone else getting a chat bug playing with friends? I can hear people just fine when I'm in the dashboard/menus/loading but as soon as I go back into the game, voice chat will start to come out of my surround speakers.

Man, Exo's looks so cool.

Multiplayer brings back fond memories of Star Wars Battlefront. :)

I haven't played a multiplayer shooter in years. Tried Battlefield Hardline and got my ass kicked repeatedly, but this seemed much more natural for me for some reason. I wonder why.

I find them in really out of the way, and hidden places. If they add more like BLands, then I hope they still keep the best loot in the hard to find ones.

Loving the game so far. Crucible is a blast, kind of has a Halo feel to it. And the Strike was just amazing. The music is fantastic as well.

Where is the best place to wait for a public event?

Welp, had my doubts but fter playing for three hours, I'm a believer.

I think I was just doing the free roam/side missions the whole time with a friend so it did get kind of repetitive but it's a restricted alpha so I figure I'm bound to experience that.

The gunplay, environments, interface, and traversal are all just top tier though. I only found one chest the whole time, which is a bummer, but the gameplay is just so fun that I was driven to keep going and going even with minimal rewards.

Gotta spend some more time with it and we'll see how all of it fits together as a cohesive experience when it releases but for now I'm really enjoying it.

I like what I've played so far. Many of the initial game play vids didn't do it justice, looks or gameplay pace wise. The agro reminds me of pso at times when fighting harder enemies which I like. Found some good loot for my level also. Not bad at all. Very suprised at how much I like what Bungie has done.

Edit: This is what I meant originally about initial vids.

I guess I'm not only one whom had trouble downloading? Had to turn ps4 on and off to get a stable download, then after 5 minutes it'd crawl. Only after unpowering my router did it download consistently.

As a HUGE Halo fan. I am really enjoying Destiny. Its Halo at its core with a mix of borderlands. Even though Reach wasnt my favorite i still enjoyed it. The pvp is intense and reminds me of the old days and i can even use old tactics from previous halos to bait people. I HAD to use Bumper Jumper as my control scheme. No way i was gonna be able do the crazy shit i wanted to do by having default.

Album I'll be updating. http://imgur.com/a/Ae31w#0

Also if you wanna see the intense PVP im talking about. Check out my match

Played for about 3 hours and didn't even progress the story mission or partake in the Strike mission or Crucible. At first I was roaming around getting a feel for the controls and gunplay, which feel great for me, and then eventually traveled along and veered off the direct path to the main objective to explore more.

After finding a couple of caves with loot chests I come across another guardian trying to dispatch two lvl. 11 enemies and decide to help to little success so we both leave them be and then stumble across another guardian and an abandoned dock yard. After engaging some Fallen a random public event occurred that was pretty epic and left us with literally :03 seconds on the clock when we completed it. Seemed appropriate all three of us bust out some moves to celebrate. lol

My buddy literally just got his Alpha to finish downloading after 5 hours and we managed to join up as a fire team and got sucked in to a totally different public event but we blew that one. lol We then took off to The Tower so he could get his tutorial gear and weapons and I got some loot for completing, and evidently failing, the public events in my Post box. Again, the small details but I like how I'm able to view my friend or fire team member's inventory just like mine so I can see all his equipment and gear. Pretty cool.

PS So uh...anyone been able to get further past those lvl. 20 Harbingers past the dock yard? lol

Had no interest in the game but wow did the Alpha put this in my Pre-Order cart.

I'm loving everything so far. I do like how you can simply bump into other players in the region and fight along side them then party up with them just by interacting with them.

The only grip I have with it is the sluggish feel of aiming. The FOV is also tiny, hurts my eyes a bit so I hope they bump it up a bit with the final release.

Looking to play with other Gaf members!

PSN: EroticSushi

I never liked Halo very much but I'm liking this game quite bit! Finally so many shots to kill an enemy make sense! It just eases you into the "halo" mechanics much better!!!

Damn i personally feel the visuals are amazing, i dont agree how some can say they are just "ok"...they totally feel next-generation to me and the sky is also so beautiful..just standing there looking around on my 55inch plasma is a beauty to behold.

As for the game, well i am only 15 minutes so far into it lol...im just looking around at the beautiful landscapes and vistas....nice looking game, bungie!

Like someone else said..hard to believe how polished this Alpha build is ....love the character designs as well...they really remind me of Mass Effect's characters in a lot of ways..its like a mixture of Mass Effect and Halo...but thats a hasty remark because i havent given the game much time yet..too busy looking around the area, what a beauty of a game.

Impressions:

The game is nicely polished for an alpha. I bet it'll release on time.

It feels very similar to an improved Halo. In fact, everything they changed, they changed for the better. If you liked halo and you like leveling/gear and such, you will love this game.

If you are not a shootbang fan, this game is not going to change your mind. It's better than Halo, and it's very solid (as you'd expect) but definitely not revolutionary like Bungie would have us believe.

Metacritic score guess: 88% ;)
The mp isn't anywhere close to Halo (any of them). The ai and encounters are also well behind Halo's sandbox gameplay. Destiny definitely has it's own unique strongpoints in the world and exploration though. It's really not that much like Halo overall.

Best thing to do after a bunch of missions inthe same area is hop on your bike and ride for a while. Then start there. The missions lead you into some crazy places compared tot he starter area, believe me!

Can a true graphics whore give me some IQ bulletpoints? Like how are the jaggies in detail and is there pop-in and how much? Does the 30FPS in motion seem pretty smooth?

If anyone is having trouble with the devil walker in the strike mission. You can shoot its legs, once one is destroyed it will reveal a weak spot. You can also destroy the blue cannon on the side of the main cannon.

THIS! Some of the bullet sponge issues people are having (beyond underpowered weapons) is the lack of the encounter secrets that you learn over time.

This game seems to give back what you put into it.

Just hit level 6 and defeated Sepkis Prime.

Fucking fantastic game so far. Bravo Bungie.

That devil walker was a bitch to beat at level 5 though.

Well, the download was successful through the night so I popped into the character creation menu before work and I'm not really sold on the Human / Void (?) hairstyles. The ones I like look like cheap wigs. I might give the Exo race a shot.

I redeemed a US code on my USA plus account and I'm playing on my proper Aussie account (that isn't plus) without issue. Hope that helps.

Ever play Halo Reach? The framerate and performance is just like that.

I played the game for maybe an hour and a half and I am liking it so far.

The exploration mode is fun as the level is huge and there seems much to discover. I mention it, because the focus of most videos of the game seems to be on the missions and strikes.

The tower feels like a typical MMO town with all its merchants. It seems a bit lifeless, though. It think you should be able to be able to have conversations with its citizen, if not as elaborate as in Mass Effect, at least as much as in Diablo 3. Maybe this part has been left out in this alpha to prevent spoilers.

Is there a map screen I have not yet discovered? I could have needed one since the first mission from a beacon led me deep into the industrial complex where I was surrounded by enemies which had a higher level than me and I could not easily find a way back.

I also hope they can improve the performance to prevent framerate drops below 30 and include an option to unlock the framerate. KZSF felt a lot more fluid to me.

Played for about 2 hours. I was really, really, really taken by the game. The sound effects and music is truly amazing. I was playing with the PS Pulse Elites on and it was a joy.

The game unfortunately got a bit too repetitive and boring by the end of my play-through, but it's hard to chuck it out to game design fault, when it's still in the Alpha stage. It was the same enemies over and over again, and very little loot/guns to find. The Old Russia map also felt very empty.

The highlight for me by far where the community open events. So much fun. The PvP is just incredibly boring. Nothing special at all. Felt it was terribly uneven with players at a higher level with a huge advantage. Classes are also unbalanced. I was playing the Warlock class, and man is that a wimp class. Can't stand too many shots. This is especially problematic in the PvP.

Overall, enjoyed it quite a bit. Definitely looking forward to the open beta, and will prob pre-order soon.

welp. finally had a good match in the crucible. got a penta kill with my super on 5 dudes standing around 1 flag. that'll teach you to stack, dudes.

Just finished up now but please.tell me it saves my radio beacon progress or will I have to start over?

Also my life will be empty when this was over I hope they extend it more. I can't get enough.

I was really skeptical of this game for many reasons, but now I'm certain I'm going to keep my pre-order and try to convince my friends to preorder it as well.

Every ghost seeks out its guardian among the ancient dead.

I don't quite understand this. The ghost chooses an already dead human? Or is this a reference to them reviving their guardians when they fall?

I don't think you understand the PVP very well. Higher levels have no advantages, gun damage doesn't matter, and classes don't take different amounts of damage, afaik. Surprisingly well balanced all things considered, IMO. I'd give it a few more tries if I were you.

I want to like this game but I can't. It feels nice and looks great (well, the character models and skyboxes do) but ADS is a burden, characters are slow like Reach Spartans, and there's no map control to be found in MP. It's a lot like CoD; spawn with your favorite weapons, rush to kill, die, respawn, repeat. There's no depth to the MP as far as I can tell.
