Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

Two problems with this. First is the cost of the figures, and second is the fact that they wouldn't want you to easily be able to have the figures unlock characters on multiple consoles, would they? Actually, third problem, the 3DS apparently needs a peripheral in order to connect with the amiibo, right?

Either;

- Include a single use code with the Amiibo (Kinda defeats the purpose of the portal thingy)

- Include the code in the Amiibo. Lessens resale value, but you'd just have to buy sealed.

And as for cost... you're paying for both a figure and a playable character.

I could see Amiibo release extra figures for the DLC characters. When you buy the figure, you get to use the character in the game. So do not give up hope!

So, there are a few problems with JUST the figure being the DLC.

1. You can only play as that character as long as you have the figure handy
2. If it's 'scan and redeem' there's nothing to stop you from using it on your system and then your friend's system.
3. If the Amiibo has a UNIQUE code on it, it's not really resellable, and you're stuck with a figure your may or may not want.
4. You can't get the DLC unless amiibos are available, and they're harder to manufacture than a disc, so supply and demand will limit how many people can actually get the dlc.

A possible solution is to have the amiibo just function like it does for mario, but have the box also include a DLC code as well. You can redeem the code on eshop for the dlc. You can also buy the dlc without the amiibo should you choose.

Edit: beaten

Watching Mii Fighter Trailer again.

I noticed that Mii Swordsman's fighting style reminded me of Llyod/Guy (Tales) and Mii Brawler's fighting style reminded me of Jude/Farah (Tales).

I really like that feeling.

Haha, well, they are working at namco. Makes you wonder if they were scrapped and then put onto miis.

BRB making Farah mii. Eternia was awesome.

Also, for the Amiibos, best I can figure is maybe they'd have an activation limit for DLC redemption. So it would only redeem the DLC code once on a Wii U and once on a 3DS and then that's it. We already know they can store data after all. Otherwise, they'd have to give two distinct codes and people would probably just sell/giveaway one of them for the system they don't have.

It'll be on www.twitch.tv/progducto at 7 PM EST.

I don't even know what it could be. Prog clarified later that it's not what we think (Nintendo wanting to C&D PM and etc etc). If anything it's probably just speculation from him that he's going to make.

Unless that's not what you're referring to and you're referring to Zero's announcement? That one got delayed to an unknown timeframe/date.
Thank God.

3 isn't a problem. If you don't want the figure, just download the character. And there's no way they'll release dlc characters as Amiibo only. Amiibo would be an option for people who don't want to buy things online and to benefit players who'll buy the figures anyway, but it won't be the only way to get the new characters.

Thank God.

FWIW, I think it would be fruitless to C&D it anyway. All it would do is generate ill will from the community they just used to generate publicity for their new game. The files are already out there and Brawl has been cracked wide open for years. If they didn't want anyone to mod Brawl they would have shut all of it down many years ago.

That's what I think, anyway.

Again, what do you do about the issue with double dipping? There's a 3DS version and a Wii U version that are supposed to have character parity (in part because of equipment).

There's also the fact that piecemeal character DLC in any fighting game makes them horrible for tournament play. Having the amiibo be a reusable option would be grand, but also unlikely.

I did not notice it at first, but in the Amiibo reveal video, it shows Lucina in one of the bubbles. It would be funny if this is a clever nod that Chrom is in the game.

That would be a typical Nintendo move though.

So what about the fairy bottle item?
I saw it several times but no one broke it/ took it.

Even some guys in Treehouse would pick it and throw it ouside the stage.
Was it glitched? I understand that it is a demo and things like that happens

Another gem from Smashboards:

Nice to know Pop-o-matic is alive and well.

As for characters I'm still holding out that the leak wasn't complete and/or DLC, otherwise I'm pretty happy.

I'm still calling Viridi being a Palutena alt if anything as a nod to the unlockable menu option in Uprising. I just have to wonder how they'd do the Reset Bomb stage.

/Insert Alfonso joke here/

Palutena could have a Viridi color option but no way in hell could Viridi be an alternate costume for Palutena, their proportions and heights aren't even remotely comparable.

Wow.

Honestly, equipment and custom move sets have zero appeal to me. I feel like it's stickers from SSE all over again.

They sound interesting in theory, but I always felt it takes away from the simplicity that is Smash.

I don't mind learning each characters 4 special moves, because I know it's just 4. Throwing in variables to that makes me a bit anxious. I don't think it'll end up being used, and it'll just be another part of Smash that could have not existed, and we'd have been just as happy.

I wish that rather than custom move sets we just had gotten several variations of each character. For example, 4 of Mario's alternate special moves could have been used for a "Dr.Mario"-type character that would be basically identical to Mario otherwise. The variations could be chosen after the character itself, like the Slash and Burst modes in Samurai Shodown 3 and 4 (the closest comparison to what I'm thinking about, considering how they change colors and attacks of the characters), or the "grooves" in SFA3 and CvsS2.

This is what I was thinking. Something like what Mortal Kombat X is doing.

If I recalled correctly, it only work if you have 150% or higher.

So did someone say that fox was using the japanese voice in the latest build because they probably haven't gotten round to recording his lines with his normal VA or does he actually sound like this?

Because it's awful.

Heck, it'd allow the game to support the DLC decades after the eShop has shut down.

This wouldn't work, there's no way they'd store that much data on an amiibo without it getting costly memory wise. I think they'd include a DLC code with the amiibo either written or embedded within it itself.

They could just make character packs that have 3 characters or so. 3 figurines + 1 code to download all 3 characters on the Wii U and 3DS versions, and then everyone gets a patch so it'd be compatible. Hopefully they'll avoid just having single character DLC. If they do go that route, hopefully it'd include a new stage/music/etc.

Quoting because new page and also want to ask if there's a video anywhere of fox's "come on" taunt anywhere?

~phew~ finally caught up with this thread. I've literally spent all week pages and pages behind due to the E3 hype train pushing it forward super fast :3

Anyhoo... Has anyone got a video of Viridi appearing in the reset bomb stage?
I wanted to see her in motion but she appears to be missing from all the reset bomb footage I've been able to find. The only nod to her seems to be an audio line of her shouting "The world's better off without you!" before the bomb comes down and obliterates the stage :o

I'm wondering if they maybe took her out for the demo because she was killing the framerate? That or coupled with her oddly having a line in Palutena's trailer (as Choppasmith pointed out) I find myself wondering if it could point to something far more awesome (no chance in heck, but I can dream right? :P )

On a different note, I'm not sure why people think sal's leak says that the remaining characters are all we're getting. It's literal wording is...
Participating characters: Pac-Man, Mii Fighter, Goddess Palutena, Shulk, Chrom, Chorus Men (none of these are new, obv, so I take he means these are the participating characters for E3?)
There's nothing exclusionary in there :/

Lastly, if anyone was worried about the Splatoon girl not being 'iconic' enough or whatever: I don't think I've seen a design generate so much (clean and safe for work) fan-art in such a ridiculously short amount of time: http://splatoon.tumblr.com/
I mean heck, someone's already even made a plushy squid XD

Pretty positive that's the store I went to! Culver City in Los Angeles. The line was really bad, but it was really exciting to see so many people excited for Smash; there was always a group of people gathered around the demo unit cheering on the players.

Also, JWittz from youtube was there filming stuff, which was kind of neat.

Am I the only one who's dissapointed that due to the leaks we almost certainly already know all the newcomers? Pretty much no surprises in that regard are ahead of us :(
I'm lucky it's the stages I care about which are hardly ever leaked because no one else seems to care for them.
