I hope not, the skill doesn't translate across all 3 Halos. I may be a 50 in Halo 3 but then when I went to play Halo 1 I would get absolutely destroyed. I really hope they are ranked separately. I don't mind an overall exp rank but the rank that changes goes up and down, according to wins/losses to be different for each game.

I said this earlier but it's basically what you want.

I want Halo 2 and 3 to have their ranking systems unchanged and separate in the individual playlists (ranked ones) and then there should be the universal system for the mixed playlists.

I feel like that is just going to over-complicate things especially for new players who would have to juggle multiple ranking systems. One ranking system split between each game sounds ideal to me. Each game could have its own set of ranked playlists that we can earn our 1-50s in with the social playlists being cross-game. I'd be okay with EXP earned cross-game as well.

Only complaint I have so far is the awful UI that looks like it was designed for a tablet.

Does anyone know if we will get the halo 2/3 style multiplayer lobbies, or the disaster that was the halo 4 lobby.

Seems like I'm considerably older than most here- I was 28 when Halo 2 released, but I was a huge fan of CE and stood in line for the midnight release (my first). What struck me about it was so many people in line for the same thing- the sense of community was truly something to behold. I went home, loaded the game up and went immediately into multiplayer- Rumble Pit- and won my first match.

Did you know you can still find your games on bungie.net? Here's my very first:

It's pretty much guaranteed to use some sort of 1-50 ranking system. My only concern now is that the simple experience system from both Halo 3's global ranking system is implemented instead of the horrible point-based ranking systems that existed in Halo: Reach and Halo 4, which was very random and worked off the "everyone wins" logic.

Make it simple and implement experience (EXP). Win a game, get 1 point; lose a game, no points; leave a game, lose a point; on special occasions, gain 2 points. Give us the global ranks back from Halo 3, and use 1-50 across all the different playlists in all of the games to determine the rank given on the global ranking system.

I'd at least like the service record to show game specific ranks. Something like this.

Except show each highest skill for each game. It would make me want to play every game, even Halo 4, just to get a 50. Honestly if Halo 4 wasn't included in this unified ranking system, I would be fine with it.

I'll never forget skipping auto shop class during my freshman year of HS with my friends to go to the mall and pick up our preorders of the game I'd been waiting 3 long years for. Before going back to school, we just had to stop at someone's house and pop off a couple multiplayer matches. First match we played online I still remember being in disbelief that having access to halo multiplayer matches with people all around the world at any time was actually a reality now.

Stayed up all night that launch day playing online with friends. Then when it was all said and done just letting the game sit at the main menu with Marty's hauntingly beautiful music. God damn, what a game.

Easy question: if you play the game right now (or at launch), does the classic mode in the Xbox One version of Halo CE look like the left, or the right?

Going through this for my stats only reminded me that Halo 2 launched with no Team Slayer playlist. It was only available in Team Skirmish and even then, the kill limit was 25 so matches ended in like 3 minutes. I'll never forget the B.net forum rage was so immense, they added a Team Slayer playlist within about three weeks. What the hell was Bungie thinking on that? lol

I also remember people screaming and raging over the matchmaking system and there being no server browser. My how time has changed.

My first few games were arranged games where me and my friends couldn't understand the matchmaking system and wondered why nobody was joining our game...

How did it look like in Halo CE Anniversary on 360? This is a port of that, so I'd assume things like jackal shields would go along with it.

I really hope the HaloCE from the collection looks like the one from the right.
What is the one from the left? It is kind of... ugly.

one of my favourite things about Halo 2 was the asymmetrical maps for the objective game type like 1 Flag and Assault. I loved Ivory Tower, Burial Mounds, Coagulation, Turf, and the one with the train (forgot the name haha) for those objective game types. I haven't enjoyed playing objective game types as much in other FPS games since.

VETO!!!
:(

I think 343 is going to be so much better from the future on. Look who they've hired the last year or two. Multiple pro players, which leads me to believe halo 5 is going back to its competitive roots. They have also hired Josh menke (blizzards ranking guy) so I'm sure the Dream Come True Collection will have a great ranking system in place. This is what I love to see out of companies in general, make mistakes, very few if you ask me, and learn from them. These guys have been listening to our community and taking the necessary steps to please us. All I have to say is keep up the amazing work Frank and the rest of 343.

I'm definitely hopeful. I hope they'll keep giving us what we know and love, while trying out some new things that isn't solely the polar opposite of what they've done. Having the Halo 5 beta a year before release was a fantastic idea. Plenty of time for feedback.

The one on the left is from the classic mode from Halo CE: Anniversary. That is not a port of the OG Xbox code, but rather the code from the PC version, which also has the bugs. Click the picture to be taken to a fantastic in-depth write up of the differences, courtesy of HTupolev on GAF.

I too hope the classic mode is taken from the OG Xbox version with the 360 Anniversary mode layered in, rather than a direct port of the 360 version altogether, as that is the bad version. Gotta wait and see.

Big Xpost from Halo community thread:

Probably not new, but I'm gonna go ahead and predict that Halo 2 will absolutely have a reimagined Coagulation, based on Dan and Frank's interview on the Twitch stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=o7ynpPLXNtY#t=31

"only one we've revealed is Ascension, but my favourite map is probably everyone's favourite map, but I'm not gonna say what it is but it's really obvious, and actually there's some things we haven't shown, some sort of interactive elements and that really changes the gameplay on that particular level which I would describe as an exterior space with interior parts."
everyone's favourite map? Gotta be coag. Gotta be. It's probably the most well known and iconic Halo map and remade visuals would be pretty cool to see. IT EVEN IS AN EXTERIOR MAP WITH INTERIOR PARTS ;)

So my revised remake list/predictions:
Ascension (confirmed, medium asym, more or less remade in Reach Forge World)
Lockout (hinted, small asym, ridiculously popular, remade as Halo 3 Blackout)
Zanzibar (hinted, large asym, popular, remade as Halo 3 Last Resort)
Coagulation (hinted? large "symmetrical", remade version of CE Blood Gulch, "spiritual remake" with Halo 3 Valhalla and Halo 4 Ragnarok, more or less remade in Reach Forge World)

Midship. Small symmetrical arena, there's gotta be at least one of these to round it out, no? I don't see them using any of these alternatives over it: Beaver Creek (they just remade it), Warlock (too simple to be worth it), Desolation (too simple, and not that popular), Gemini (too obscure, from Marathon 2), or Foundation (barely a competitive map, but really popular in customs, from Marathon 2). Only thing that makes me second guess is that Halo 3 has a remake with Heretic, but so many Halo 2 maps have been remade anyway that I don't really see this as a compelling reason not to do an Anniversary version.

Terminal Large asym, no remake ever done, Halo 4's Perdition started as a Terminal remake for Halo CE Anniversary, so it was gonna be remade at one point and finishing that would make sense since some assets could still exist. It was a really popular map, if I remember, too. This is the only one that I'm hesitant to be sure of.

Later in the video, Frank mentions:
"Well they have fixed a few bugs, and other stuff, so it's not precisely the Forge that already shipped, there's a couple of things that we tweaked and fixed, but it's gonna be a very familiar experience"
The phrasing seems to suggest that Halo 3 and Halo 4's Forge modes have been tweaked and fixed in some way.

Now, if they are spending the time and effort to do that, and put Forge in for the Halo 2 Anniversary variants, then there's gotta be an aspect of at least one of those maps to be used as some kind of canvas. I imagine since this engine is based parts of Halo 4's, they would also be using a version of Halo 4's Forge mode. If that is true, then they have hopefully also included some fixes that have been pointed out by the Forge community since Halo 4's launch.

I'm almost convinced that at least one of the above maps has enough space to act as a canvas for other map remakes. I previously thought it could be done with Foundation, but now I don't know... Halo 4 had Forge Island, I wonder if they could do something along those lines. Maybe with Coag again like in Forge World? Or maybe, just maybe, none of the 6 maps have it, and there's a "7th" canvas map strictly made for Forge in Halo 2 Anniversary.

Of course, none of this really would matter if you can't properly share the files to other people, so I guess we will have to wait and see on that, but I have a feeling that Forge in the MC Collection is also going to be a Big Deal (tm).

New interactive elements will be interesting to see. I wonder how much of a difference between versions there will be (kind of like the CE Reach Anniversary maps), as I didn't notice all that much with the Ascension that they showed aside from that button and weird energy thing in the centre... I wonder if there will be two separate variants like in Halo CEA's Reach maps. That also reminds me, what of Epilogue or Boundless in Halo 3, or other tweaked variants? So many questions!

Absolutely. I wonder if having the beta so far in advance means that they might be willing to make some pretty fundamental changes to the nature of Halo 5, before it is released.

nah they just timed it to fit perfectly with my winter break :) It starts right after Christmas and ends when I'll be moving back to school for spring semester. BTW thanks for that 343.

One thing they need to fix with Halo 4, now that they have a stronger console is the ammo/weapon limitation. You drop a weapon for a second and it disappears or if you die, and you lose your rockets or sniper etc.

I wonder how Forge will be in that H2A Playlist. Looking at the Ascension pics, it seems like the skyboxes are much better than H4 even, so you can imagine others will create great maps. We should post more interviews here just so people who haven't necessarily seen them before get a chance.

Eeeep. Just goes to show I never hit the back button when I played it on 360.

I thought the weird pics were from the PC version, because that's what I recognized them as, so I guess they started from the PC codebase.

They've already said no fundamental changes will be made to any of the games.

When did they say that? Also, is that really a fundamental change? Making a slight change so that weapons don't despawn in seconds or disappear? Maybe I'm naive on what it would actually entail to fix that, but I figured it was an Xbox 360 limitation issue only. And that like the ability to increase resolution to 1080p, 60FPS and possibly some anti-aliasing, they could do slight tweaks like this.

Ascension's remake is really interesting, you can see the Halo ring rotating below the actual map, meaning the map is somehow suspended above the ring. 343 usually takes the fiction of the multiplayer maps very seriously. If you look, you can see what looks like the gas-giant Substance (due to the bluish tint in the atmosphere) that Delta Halo revolves around. It will be very interesting to see if the ring makes a full rotation underneath

We have confirmed, though, that Halo 3′s specific controls will not be available as a universal controller option. Its left hand/right hand setup just doesn’t play well with the other Halos.

Might have missed some posts on this, does this mean no bumper jumper?

If they can't find a way to universally apply bumper jumper, there will be hell to pay.
Seriously though, BJ is in Halo CEA, 3, ODST, Reach, & 4. I'd be shocked if they didn't apply it to 2 & call it a day.

Visited Bungie.net for the first time in years... dug up these gems from my 'saved files'.

Can't believe it's been 5 years now since I took these screenshots! Can't wait to get back into Halo 3 (and finally play Halo 2) with the MCC.

Ahh, memories.

wait, halo 1 doesn not have online coop in this package?

But I hope if it sells well we will get a Gears Collection in 2015 (also one year prior to the Release of Gears of War 4 in (possibly) 2016) :)

I'll say doubtful. One of the big draws is the fact that it's ten years since Halo 2 and that these are old gen games right. As great as Gears was, 2006 was the first game, 2008 the second, 2011 the third, and Judgment which came out in 2013. Fitting them all on some kind of disc would require a lot more work. Plus, there is a massive difference in the sales and fanbase of Halo and Gears. Both IP's are important to Microsoft, but Halo is like the Mario of MS. All others take a backseat.

Plus, this collection is more about Chief and his story in H5 as well. It's why we're not getting Reach, ODST or even Wars. It's not a Halo collection.

This will sell like gangbusters, but I don't think you can extrapolate the success of this to Gears. And I'm someone who loves Gears. Gears 1 to this day is one of my favorite multi-player games of all time. Not since Halo 2 had I met so many great people or had that much fun.

I think at best we could get digital releases of Gears of War, but even then, is there really a huge clamoring for say Gears of War 2 multi-player as there is for Halo CE multi-player and Halo 2 multi-player, especially at 1080p/60FPS.

I wouldn't mind them adding it to social, but if it goes anywhere near ranked I'll be throwing my toys out of the pram. Ranked should always be two teams of players enter and one leaves victorious. Adding players mid match just throws the whole point of ranked out the window.

That was a shame because I much preferred the original art/look of CE to the update. It a got a bit too chunky, the Halo being a good example, looks much smaller with updated textures & geometry.

I'll love it all at 60fps anyway. Especially Halo 3. Halo 2 Anniversary looks loads better than the original.

Moved it to the OP and it looks much cleaner. I didn't want to go that route at first because of the volatile nature of the information (people will save an infographic and it might be outdated a day later, etc.). PSD file download wont work, but I don't think it will need updating for a while.

I'm thinking about compiling all of Frank's answers here too, but will need dieklobrille's wizardry to make it look neater.

Halo PC maps? Holy shit, this entire package almost feels like an apology for the people who didn't like Halo 4, a damn good apology. An apology that I'm buying a console for.

BTW, can I get a link to where the Halo PC maps were confirmed, I just want to have all doubt wiped away.

Well yea, it's necessary to jumpstart the community again, but at the same time, it also makes a lot of sense for what they're doing. It's a win-win no matter how you look at it.

Besides, next year is reserved for Halo 5, they won't release their other big multiplayer shooter IP at the same time, even if it's just a collection of prior games.

"Forge and Theater will be available as well. All related bugs and issues have been fixed"
Does this mean campaign theatre will work properly in Halo 3? (allowing the ability to record clips, and rewind the film)

I assume Halo 4 campaign theatre won't be in remastered version (as it wasn't in the base game). I used to spend hours flying around in free cam/pan cam exploring the Halo 3 campaign environments. It would be awesome if this could be added to Halo 4 on the X1, but I suppose the game DVR will have to do :'(

Providing a forge space to remake more Halo 2 maps would be a great idea.
