Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

I'm worried that the 3DS version will keep us from getting DLC and balance patches. Can the 3DS even do patches? Didn't they have to update the entire OS to fix Mario Kart?

Yup, it can do patches. Otherwise Pokemon XY would be largely unplayable.

Hmmm... I wonder which one is the truth. Though Maverick is saying it from his point of view whereas Revven is reporting what the owned one is claiming. I'm inclined to believe Maverick on this since I know if I was in the owned one's shoes I'd try to make myself come off as best as I could.

Sounds like Maverick misread the whole situation. We already know he has a hatred for Melee, so it's entirely possible that his personal bias made him perceive the comment as a snarky and hostile one.

So basically, Sakurai should go all Dojo on us

I approve.

All things considered we've gotten roughly the same proportion of information as the Dojo. We know of 35 characters out of a presumed maximum of 50 (.7, .74 if we use the rumored 47 count) compared to Brawl's 26/39 (.66). In exchange for knowing a bit more about characters we know less about modes.

We know very little about the music this time around.

I truly appreciate all the impressions flowing in. I really wish I could have played the game myself though to better contextualize them. I also wish impressions were framed more in "I prefer if these were changed, I think it would make the game better" (which is happening to be fair) over "if this isn't changed the game is 95-100% screwed". The later, combined with some "lol competitive players don't have fun" posts or tones can make reading this thread a chore :/

The Smash fanbase is the only place I see "competitive" and "casual" play being treated as mutually exclusive, as if any move to cater to one instantly means depriving the other of something. It's really weird.

It isn't the only one I've seen. Or rather, its not the only other fanbase where the developers are constantly having to juggle the desires and wants of different people with often different tastes and have had to make compromises for the health/popularity of the game.

Joe was being sarcastic lol.

Mocking MaverickHunter for being a douche.

Is it needed to call other people names because they see it differently. I take that you know who that guy is.

Edited: I apologized for my comments because I can't really tell the context due to deafness and what made it worse that liveblog don't fully explain that it was a joke or not.

I'm not saying it's the only case where devs have to do the juggling act. I'm saying it's the only one where fans seemed really convinced that devs can only cater to one or other, and then grow to hate the "opposite" side because of that.

Not to say that competitive players don't shit on casuals in other communities and vice versa. But Smash seems to be the only place where people really believe the game can only cater to one, and the attitude to the side they're not on is basically "fuck 'em."

Seems about right to me. :)

Apparently you missed my post because all of it was jokey. It flew right over your head.

Who is the asshole now?

Oh, you. Undoubtedly you. Even if you were joking (which you weren't, which was clear as day to everyone in the room from your tone, snark, and general self-love... nice shot at damage control, though!), you still wasted someone else's shot at a legitimate question.

Yeah, you're the asshole for sure!

LOL! Bowser can crouch cancel Dash? Hellooooooooo MVC3 wavedashing.

I think you misunderstood again, unless I was the one who misunderstood this time :(

Your attempt at being a dick is really cute, but it really isn't working at all.

Uh, it wasn't me. I had said that I made a post about who clarified the comment at the roundtable.

Sorry, I wasn't communicating properly.

I'm curious and hope that no one minds if I ask, went back to when the first post mentioned it and given the context I didn't quite understand,

What exactly was the question the guy asked in the round table? Something about how the characters were being balanced?

Something like "If I beat you in For Glory, can I help balance?"

mine too... I still waited lol

4 hours for 4 minutes on Wii U and 4 minutes on 3DS :c
I think mine went fast because they shifted to a 1 set per go-around and some people were satisfied with the one and didn't get back in line. Way shorter today and they even gave water bottles out because it was hot for a period of time. Nice Best Buy. :)

Just so you know, there was 10 frames of buffer in Brawl by default. So it would not surprise me if they did carry this over to some extent since... they had started off of Brawl. They could've toned it down though because I heard from some of the players at E3 that the buffer felt different somehow compared to Brawl (I forget what the exact comment was). Maybe the window is smaller for when you can put an input in and the game will do it compared to Brawl, I dunno. But yeah, buffer was there in Brawl as well most likely to cushion its terrible online netcode.

What? Now this is some bullshit. Can't they apply that to online only?

My favorite question/comment was from the guy that was inspired by him with Sakurai subsequently giving him the serious thumbs-up; great stuff.

Not trying to be an asshole at all. It was a big miscommunication, as we've all seen. My mistake!

No, it was my fault too - I didn't fully figure out the dynamics of the conversation. My mistake and apologies!

Haha, I think I did. My mistake!

I was able to get into first place with Mega Man at the Cambie Best Buy location, and in the second match, all of us had decided to play as different villagers.

I wish October 3rd was closer. :(

Man, all the newcomers I played as (Mega Man, Villager, Greninja) were so weird to get a hang of...except for Little Mac. Guy was a beast.

I imagine a Gamecube controller would've helped me get a better taste on the new Olimar, but I'm still salty over the halved distance of his up Smash. That was so good for getting through platforms.

So basically, Sakurai should go all Dojo on us?

I approve.

Hope we get some music samples! :)

Yeah, I played as LIttle Mac, Rosalina, and Wii Fit Trainer on the U, and Mega Man on the 3DS.

Little Mac was really strange, but that was also my first time holding a Pro Controller, so I kind of kept doing the same moves (Side B side Smashes) because I really couldn't get jumping down.

Rosalina was a weiiiiird character, but I really enjoyed her. My matches were recorded and re-watching really gave a sense of how the Luma mechanic worked. I can see myself using her for 1 vs 1 matches.

Wii Fit Trainer was really fun, by this point I started getting a better feel for the controller, thankfully. Not like it matters, I'll be using that GC remote haha.
