Ha you know, I think I actually enjoyed Xenoblade more after the first play through. Now don't get me wrong, that first time was incredible, Makna Forest blew me away in particular. But, once I had an idea on how to play the game better, where the NPCs were located, etc., I was able to play the game in a way that was more suited to my tastes. I was also confident enough to take on the super bosses.

I have actually played the game a few times through completion now, and it always seems like I am learning something new about the game and the enjoyment never really fades.

Yeah, I can totally understand that. But for me, it was still so magical the first time because of seeing the areas for the first time, hearing that amazing music, and experiencing the story without knowing what was going to happen next. I've replayed Xenoblade twice now - going for a third before X releases - and both times were really fun. I actually didn't use the "New Game Plus" on my second playthrough, though. I still wanted a little challenge when playing through the game. I wish they had scaled up the monsters/bosses if you did New Game Plus.

No matter what you just can't beat the first time you hear the music

Good selection, but you are missing Epilogue. I feel like that is one of the overlooked tracks when people list their favorite songs. It's a shame because it's really a fantastic track and perfect for the credits. It's a great track for making you think about your adventure as you are sitting there watching the credits.

This game has too many tracks to know them all

GOD that was hard to pick =p

Good point. You know, I tend not to care about game music at all. But that all changed with Xenoblade. To this day I cannot get the main theme song and others in the game like Gaur Plain out of my head, and that is a wonderful thing.

As if Xenoblade wasn't incredible enough, it has the only game soundtracks I have ever cared about.

I enjoyed my second playthrough better than the first purely because I knew to expect some of the dumber plot twists lol

Fuck you for returning and bringing about the love triangle Fiora

Maybe it'll work with Xenosaga too, I absolutely despise Shion but the experience could be a lot more enjoyable when I know how goddamn bad she's going to be

True, true. If someone were to ask me for my favorite tracks from Xenoblade, I'd just list them the entire OST. :P

Well, I've always cared a lot about music in games (especially JRPGs like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts - they always have such fantastic music), but Xenoblade's soundtrack was certainly something special. Definitely one of my favorite soundtracks in all of gaming. I wasn't really expecting to like it as much as I did either.

This is blasphemous!

Fiora is like the best character in the game! Her coming back was one of my favorite moments in the game actually - like her Prison Island re-reveal. Dem chills... Plus her new design <3

I did feel sorry for Melia, though. Poor girl just couldn't catch a break. Takahashi must have hated her.

I'm a member of #TeamMelia myself, but yeah, I'm glad
Fiora returned
, she kicks all sorts of ass plus she is a great character.

Haha, it's great how different opinions people have

I'm 100% sure I'd be indifferent about her if they never had brought up the love triangle though. She wasn't THAT bad by herself, I just hate (most) love triangles with passion.

Especially in games where they don't give me the chance to choose.

Xenoblade Chronicles is amazing. It's one of those games I wish I could play it for the first time again and again.

I am currently playing through it for the first time and am pretty shocked that they managed to create a world like this on the Wii. By the time I made it to the Bionis Knee it really started to get it's hooks in me. The scale just feels colossal and the soundtrack gives me such feels. Cannot wait to see what they have in store for us with this one.

The only thing that I think needs to be improved in the new game is the grass pop-in, you walk a few feet and it literally pops right in front of you or disappears behind you.

It really is amazing. They made such a colossal game on the Wii, managed to made it look beautiful and without annoying load times or bugs and crashes. Bethesda, take notes!

Make sure you explore every nook and cranny. There are hidden paths here and there to find!

I really need to give Xenoblade another shot. I let myself get caught up in doing every side quest when they came up and that caused me to burn out fairly quickly.

I still don't understand this point of view though. Is it really so great being able to make yourself look weird that you are willing to sacrifice a character specific story for it?

There are tradeoffs, I agree. Someone mentioned how things such as romance issues in the story could be affected. And instead of being more integrated with the game's AI party, the silent character could feel like an outsider.

Seems like you are a closeted fan of "blatantly" Japanese games.

I've always been okay with anime (watched tons of it back when I was a pre-teen). But I've heard my younger cousin, for example, speak of anime in disdain when mentioning that her friend's Netflix account is full of previously watched anime. That was something that bothered me. And so I wanted to think about the thought process that could make someone uncomfortable with it.

If I were you, I'd play again but this time choose to skip all of the side quests. There really isn't anything rewarded that you can't find in the world on your own. You will miss out on some skills though, but nothing that prevents you from playing through the game with ease. After you beat the game, decide if you want to try quests next time. The quests are the least important thing about Xenoblade. I just always do them because I can't help myself.

I'm really trying to go off the beaten path and it just keeps feeling larger and larger. Thank God we can travel between landmarks when we need to, but I am mainly just pulling the camera back and am enjoying taking in the sights. Absolutely amazing world.

Did anyone really
not see Fiora coming back?!? Or that guy who got taken at the start?

Mumkhar - I expected him to be revived, but as a soulless cyborg reborn. So only half got it.

Fiora - Well, she was taken after being stabbed and thrown out, so it's kinda expected :p

I'm a member of #TeamMelia myself, but yeah, I'm glad

Oh, I love Melia, too. She was my main for most of the game - she was just really fun to control. And I think she was an interesting character in general. But as a whole, I do prefer Seven.

Ah, I understand - perfectly understandable. I don't really mind love triangles all that much. I don't really feel like it was a full triangle though considering
Shulk had no interest in Melia at all. Pretty sure he never even realized she liked him, lol. Melia was friend-zoned to the EXTREME.

Did anyone really

To be honest, no... I didn't.
I probably should have, but the way they game was directed, it really looked like Fiora died. Which... I guess she did technically. And I didn't even remember Mumkhar was a character until his re-reveal. I think because I did so many sidequests and by the time I got to Prison Island/Valak Mountains, it was like 50+ hours into the game, and I had completely forgotten who he was, lol. His claw weapons during the Colony 9 attack should have been a big clue, though. And for Fiora, I just assumed they used her as an excuse to set you off on your adventure and nothing else. Considering the amount of JRPGs/Xeno games I've played, I should have expected it, though! Oh well. It was better that I didn't see it coming - made the reveals all the more surprising.

Might have to give up on Xenoblade (late game spoilers)

I'm lever 75 and been maining Shulk/Dunban throughout and i've just encountered Disciple Lorithian and i've died about 10 times fighting her. Switched my mains round but i'm just not good enough using Melia to be effective. Really quite disappointed as i'm so close but after 90 hours i can't be arsed to a) change up my playstyle or b) go grind up a few levels

I guess now all I can do is look forward to Xenocross!

Whaa, no. Don't give up! Switch to Melia/Riki/Sharla. That boss is strong against physical attacks (although it could be done). You're so close to the end. Melia's buffs stack btw - so if you have 2 Lightning (I think that was what it was called) buffs up, she (and the party) does more Ether damage. If you try Riki, make sure you put his ether-based abilities on his bar instead of his physical ones. Like the poison, flame, etc.

His absolute thickheadedness made it even worse for me lmao

Melia was so nice :(
I'd go so far as to say that she's probably my favorite female character out of all the Xeno games.

Did anyone really
not see Fiora coming back?!? Or that guy who got taken at the start?

It was pretty obvious yes

To beat
Lorithia, I had to send my ether-based AI party members to attack Lorithia and get her attention, while I worked on the nebulae. I also had to call them back sometimes because they'd go into the ether. But the key was using ether attacks.

^ What?!? I didn't. I made sure not to read spoilers and pressed on because I wanted to find out whether or not that was the case. And I even had a "eureka" moment when I realized that Metal Face
Could be Mumkhar.

If you remove all pretense that 'Japanese-style' or 'anime-design' ( which is a ludicrous statement to begin with in some ways ), all these games are... are simply stylised work. Games that are presented in a different visual flavour, rooted in another artist's visual perception of the things he/she loves to draw, and how it's designed.

I actually had to come to that conclusion myself, realizing that we are receiving the creative works of another mind, and are not entitled to anything. Though Xenoblade was more colorful than what X appears to be, I'm trusting that the designers are doing it for a good reason.

I've always wondered about people who have an aversion to or consider stylized works to be childish. It seems really limiting when you consider the possibilities granted by fiction, and the ability for creator's to visually express events, settings, and characters in many different ways (like through abstraction) rather than just rote photo-realism.

This, so so much.

You're too close to give up lol. Just setup your equipments and gems and use high-accuracy attacks (hint: Melia and Riki). This provides you with better attacks plus buffs and healing.

It's probably way too early to say, but I have a feeling I'm going to prefer Xenoblade's world over X's. X's world looks fantastic, and I can't wait to dive in and explore it, but...

There was something so fascinating and original about Xenoblade's world being on the surface of two giant mech
gods who did battle thousands of years ago.
Like seriously, it is probably the most original world concept I have ever seen in a game. And I just don't know if they will top it. And I'm just talking about the concept so far... the actual world design was top of its class with areas that looked very different, distinct, colorful, and had such fantastic views. I was always excited to see what was around the next corner.

I hope X can recapture some of that.

M...me T.T

I'm really bad when it comes to predict those kind of things while watching a movie or while playing. Even when they are so obvious. I'm the kind of "it only happens when I see it happenning" kind of person.

I actually shouted in relieved joy when it was confirmed that
Fiora was still alive.
. I've got the same feeling with the earth being destroyed, I want to go out and avenge the people who were killed so thoughtlessly
even though there's probably going to be some sort of good reason for everybody to hate humans.

Come to think of it, would that kind of moment be capable if the player-created character does not have such a deep relationship or history with one of the other characters?

Hope there's this kind of thing to Xeno X...

I got 40 hours into the game and was never able to finish it because I was having financial difficulties and the first thing I thought I had to get rid of was my Wii U. Now I have another Wii U and I am thinking of buying Xenoblade from gamestop again. I could just emulate it but man I kind of want the original experience. Catching up to where I was is gonna be a bitch. I loved the game so much and will never forget Satorl Marsh at night or the beautiful music there. Also The city in the Manka Forest has amazing music. Awesome presentation over all.

Oh wow! I actually envy you guys. I think I'm a bit over-cynical with stories, so it's quite rare to have nice surprises. It's not a bad thing to enjoy stories without predicting, in fact I would treasure that as a skill :)

But seriously, the Golden Rule of Thrillers -
if there's no body, they ain't dead.

I want to go out and avenge the people who were killed so thoughtlessly
even though there's probably going to be some sort of good reason for everybody to hate humans.

Me too!!! I've watched the opening a few times now and it still gives me goosebumps seeing the massive collateral damage explosions on the surface of the Earth and the ruthless destruction of those ark ships. I've never wanted to save humanity more from the get-go.

Hope there's this kind of thing to Xeno X...

Okay I have to admit, the only thing I could think of as he ran over that ridge was 'press ZR to get your trick boost!'. Must put down Mario Kart.

I worked out the plot twist with
Dickson
in Xenoblade on my first playthrough.

If you put him into your party after Xord's battle, you can see Dickson has the 100% unbeatable gem equipped.

He had a
moustache. Anyone with a moustache is dodgy as fuck in a JRPG.

SoraanTribal ruined that
Fiora "death"
for me... :(

I hope X can recapture some of that.

Outside of the idea, at least the world design seems to look just as good if not better. It's certainly not limiting them, which I bet is the point. Lots more variety with things they couldn't add in Xenoblade.

Did I? lol. When? Was it a convo on Skype?

Oh true. The world design is still top notch in X. Need to see more of it, though!

I saw most of Xenoblade's mid-game plot twists coming, but in hindsight it felt like the player was supposed to figure them out early. A lot of the twists later on practically came out of nowhere unless you were paying incredibly close attention to some very specific moments.

As for X's world design, one of those moons looks incredibly close at night. ;)

Oh I'm so glad I didn't look for spoilers for Xenoblade Chronicles! When I got to Satorl Marsh I thought
So we'll be approaching the ruins of the once great High Entia when we reach the top of the Bionis, wonder if any are left.
But then at the top of the Bionis
Oh my God! A high tech, indoor, city floating in the sky! They'eve even got Banshees for air defense! The High Entia are the most advanced people on the Bionis!
Oh and when I saw Mechonis in the distance, I thought
this would be good for the sequel, no way we're going to be going all the way to Mechonis in this game.

^^ Have fun with it! Let it be what it is, it's unlike other games I've played. Even after trying many other JRPGs with many other battle systems, I still can go back to Xenoblade and I find myself as enchanted by it as I was when I first played it (and as I was the second time I played it, haha)

Thanks guys!

Used Melia Riki and Reyn and beat it first time today. Had to go buy a couple of skill books and spend some AP points, but summon ice and summon bolt did the trick as well as her 1-2 topple attack. Rikis poison and levelled up freezinator attacks were great to. I'm sure Melias ice attack managed to destroy the supporting creatures in one attack, she is so Boss!

Congratulations!

With Melia as main every fight becomes much easier as ether attacks have more chances of hitting high-level enemies as well as hitting multiple targets
plus Melia's skills are pretty broken :)
.

Riki is also so underrated in this game. That little guy is pretty much the best all-around fighter in the game.

Awesome! Good job! :)

Melia is pretty damn OP in the game, honestly. Summon Bolt -> Copy -> Summon Flame -> Use it -> Summon whatever -> use it. When Summon Bolt's recharge is back up, summon it and unleash a crazy devastating attack (since you had 3 bolts up). Copy Bolt again, use it. Repeat the process. And yeah, her self-topple stuff is invaluable. She's so fun to use, imo. It's also nice to keep up a Summon Aero/Wind on some harder bosses because it raises the agility of your party members (more evades). The only problem is sometimes when you unleash those huge ether bolt attacks, she takes aggro from the enemy, but it's not too much of an issue with capped Agility on everyone.

On my first time playing the game, I almost never used Riki. It wasn't until my second playthrough that I started to see just how good Riki was. He's hilarious in battle, too. lol

I was hoping sooooo much that the franchise would get back to its Xenogears/Xenosaga roots, universe-wise, as I have fond memories of these games. Looks like it's... actually happening.

mfEtbcU.gif

It's EXACTLY how i feel about it.

Can't believe i will buy a wii u just for play this game, man. I just can't believe!
