I reckon Melee at this years EVO is going to end up having the largest number of signups for a single game at EVO this year, possibly ever.

It's going to be big.

And Reggie will make a surprise appearance to reveal captain falcon. I can sorta see it happenning now after the positive turnout of the smash tourney. Still unrealistic ofcourse.

I don't believe nintendo will make an appearance at EVO, but if they turned up at EVO with a new build that has some of the changes we asked for and an exhibition match with two top players followed by a Falcon/Falco reveal trailer? They would earn an unimaginable amount of good will and hype with the competitive fanbase.

The "cro" from "cross" plus an "m". At least I think.

I am not writing this to knock you, but this post is part of why open and friendly dialogue between competitive and casual players is important. I think both sides want similar things more than either one thinks, but prejudices keep that truth from being realized.

Just to be clear, I don't think I've ever attacked the competitive community, aside from the Peachyhime post and some obtuse premature statements about the deah of a game that isn't even out yet. I was VERY good at Smash 64, so I understand the need to play the game in a competitive manner, instead of like a simple party game.

I see the community as a great thing, for both Nintendo and the fans. I realize that it's not just Fox only, no items, FD as many try to portray it, I loved the guys at the Invitational, watched the documentary (well part of it), and I totally agree with you on the need of open and friendly dialogue.

Though, to put it bluntly, a (maybe little but) vocal part of the community sucks. They hate on everything Sakurai does, overreact, are aggressive, and sometimes act in a downright ridiculous way. Most of the time it's that part which stands out more, i.e. the guy challenging Sakurai to a battle because he wanted to help him balance the game.

It looks like Sakurai's really going for Ike as the slow, hard-hitting one and Marth as the light, speedy one, so Chrom could be a middle ground character. He could also use Awakening's Pair Up mechanic in some way, but I think that's less likely.

Got it, thanks.

Thats terribly boring. And I think we would have had some hint from the leak if he was paired, no?

There's so many different minigames in the rhythm heaven series that if they go the pacman route of having the chorus men represent that entire franchise then there's loads of stuff they could draw from.

That makes sense. On the subject of Chorus Men, would they be classed as the mascot of the franchise?

I kind of wonder if there'll be a lot more Namco love than, say, Sega or Capcom because of their involvement. I mean, we know that there are characters like Tails as trophies, but due to Pac-Man's nature instead of "Pac-Man" series trophies, there could be a ton of "Namco Arcade" trophies/stickers. That'd be really cool, as there's a lot of stuff to like in there, and since apparently a lot of people don't know about them...

I have to say, it'd be neat if we got trophies from Sega and Capcom that weren't just Sonic and Mega Man. Obviously ones that have Nintendo ties. It'd be weird for a Dante trophy to just list Project X Zone since DMC never came to Nintendo consoles.

But all of his options have been taken away from him.

Dash dancing isn't in the game, increased aerial lag means little to no combo game, increased knockback on throws means he doesn't have any throw followups, dancing blade no longer being cancellable takes away options from him, no crouch cancelled dashing is also bad for him and from a few accounts I've heard the tip of his blade is weakened as well.

Meanwhile his counter which is an easily punishable move has been buffed, great.

Marth is going to be a bad character in his current state (it could hopefully still change) based on what options he has available to him, we've played enough smash by now to all of this.

As much as I wanna celebrate that the pretty boy motherfucker known as Marth might be nerfed, it is too early to tell all of this. Yes he may not be able to kill as fast and chain cheap ass throws together, but that doesn't mean he is bad.

Trying to play Marth like he is his Melee or Brawl self will do that. Seeing Ken wreck WFT and beat Milktea's Pikachu convinces me that he's still a threat. Marth's aerials aren't even as bad as people are making them seem, they're just not as good to make him the overused character he was.

Also, this might be helpful Neorice, don't know if you have all of em

EDIT: it was the gamexplain guys just cycling through all the costumes. The yellow Luigi didn't exist on the 3DS version from what I saw.

The yellow luigi might've been orange luigi with really shitty lighting.
But I can't look at this gameplay footage and conclude that luigi in it is anything but yellow:

edit: I guess zoomed in he looks a lot more orange, I'll fix it.

Edit:

Also, yes the color alts are all up for grabs. I'm not gonna make avatars out of em myself, but anyone can take em for avatar purposes if they want.

How could "Chorus Men" possibly be referring to Marshal? It only applies to one character, the Chorus Men. There's no reason for the name to have been changed, we just got the name that was presumably given.
Well Sponge clearly thought it could.

But like I said I wasn't even talking about the leak. I was literally just correcting an issue that I've noticed has been going on for a while.

I'm disapointed that 3DS got delayed, but happy at the same time. I'm buying a couple DSes for this and I really don't have the money for it yet. But the invitational really sealed my purchase. While the Megaman FS was a great moment, for me Greninja and Bowser was the true hype moment for me.

I was cheering outloud at that point.

It still doesn't seem like much of a point judging how well he did when there were items and the fact that I don't personally rate Milktea or Lilo that highly, but we can tell a lot based on what tools Marth has at his disposal.

I'm interested in hearing what ways you think he might be good (good in the sense that he's worth picking over other characters) currently with the tools he has available to him, because he hasn't had many buffs that would make him good with the current physics engine, all his strengths have been nerfed without giving him much in the way of other opportunities that we know of (this could all change if he's exactly the same but his custom moves give him a better set of specials, but it's a bit of a stretch to bank on that really).

He was designed for melee's physics engine and that really shows in the way you utilise his tools, but as the physics started changing in the series his moveset stayed exactly the same and it really hurt him.

Thats terribly boring. And I think we would have had some hint from the leak if he was paired, no?

The leaks haven't given details on any other characters - neither Palutena's custom moveset nor the three types of Miis were predicted - so conceivably Chrom could have some unique mechanic like Pair Up that hasn't been revealed yet.

EDIT: to clarify, I didn't mean he would be a "paired-up character" like Ice Climbers or Rosalina & Luma. I was thinking in terms of his specials. Pair Up could be his B move: he calls in Robin or Lucina to do specific moves, kind of like how Zwei summons Ein in SCV.

Yeah its a shame, I thought yellow would look cool too. Also, the purple/pink DK that's going around appears to be a slightly different update of the blue one in Brawl, unless the WiiU version showed something completely different.

Uh...no. His name is most definitely pronounced "Crawm" in-game.

It actually depends on who's saying it - Lissa definitely says Crawm, but IIRC Sully says it like Krom (or maybe like Chrohm). There's probably a few more examples of where different characters pronounce it differently.

Personally I'm sticking to the Krom pronunciation.

What's the difference between Crawm and Krom? They both sound the same to me.

So which character out of the remaining verterans (if any) do you think is going to have the biggest design change from Brawl? On the same level as what the bowser and Ike look like.

I think Ganondorf might get a more classic look this time around (Also G&W might look a bit more... Game and watch-ey based on the pacman trailer but he hasn't been officially revealed yet).

Also SSS has started.

Melee doubles HYPE.

Bracket for anyone interested, Ken and KDJ are teaming as well as M2K and armada.

I assume you actually mean Chrohm and Crawm - the emphasis on 'aw' (as in awe) compared to 'oh' (similar to the yoga meditation sound of ohm).

Krom and Crawm are both fairly distinct to listen to.

So when you said you were sticking to "Krom", what were you referring to? The yoga one?

In my head Krom is a fairly short and snappy version to say the name whereas the yoga Chrohm is extended a little bit with emphasis in the middle of the word. It's hard to explain without being able to hear the sound difference though.

Agreed on all accounts. It is unfortunate that both sides get stygmatized by their more extreme counterparts.

Not happy to hear that the 3DS version has issues with the framerate. Especially when the Direct was all "THANKS TO HAVING EVERYTHING BUT THE PLAYER CHARACTERS AT 30 FPS, WE CAN KEEP A CONSTANT AND SMOOTH FRAMERATE" bs. :(

How is Chrom pronounced?

"Chrome"? "Crawm"? "Crumb"?

Watch Conan the Barbarian. Then you will have your answer.
