Snake hiding under the couch out of sight.

How do ya'll think custom moves will be handled in matches? When you're just playing a local game how will they have you assign your fighter the moves you want?

I'm really hoping that they add a little button on the character select screen that acts as a quick menu for custom moves whenever you select a character. Because if I have to go to a separate menu everytime I want to chane a move, I'm just not gonna bother.

As far as the select screen on the 3DS, why does it have to be pages? Why can't it just scroll, meaning that it wouldn't be limited to 24 spaces per 'page'. It could be 6 columns and X rows if it scrolls down, or 4 rows and X columns if it scrolls to the side

Anyone else stocking up on Gamecube controllers now? I may get an extra one now and then more of the official Smash ones when they release.

I suppose there's no reason it couldn't be like that. I think everyone - myself included - is predicting pages because two pages of 24 spaces fits our best estimates of this game's roster size.

Alright there's also the fact that in the pacman trailer, his nair seems to have very little landing lag even though he seems to land mid animation (though it is hard to tell whether the animation actually ends or not), where his dair has significant lag but is multihit.

I'm guessing this would be a video of the latest version but it leaves hope for atleast some safe comboable aerials, with enough hitstun he may be able to SHFF Nair into utilt into another aerial followup, as an example.

Getting more hopeful as I look at these videos, going to see if there's anything else helpful in the palutena and mii trailers.

Time for a bit more analysis that someone has brought to my attention:

Compare Charizards grab here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgmC56ndgeg#t=117

To Megamans grab here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpZSM007o5c#t=41

What you may or may not notice, is that charizard is able to instantly move after the throw, whereas megaman has noticeable lag after his throw.

This could mean that the build at bestbuy/e3 is earlier than whenever charizard was introduced, or it could also mean that charizard just isn't properly balanced yet and that's why he's not in the demo, it could go either way.

It's still something that potentially gives us hope for a more fluid game though.

Interesting.

Landing lag is certainly one of the major concerns right now with the game, and apparently the characters with the same type of down A aerial attack all seem to be stuck for about a second after that attack.

Sonic (different build of the game since it features Pac-Man?). Notice how long it takes for the shield to go up after landing - http://www.gfycat.com/MaleFirmIndusriverdolphin

I still have 2 but I'm going to buy another 2 of the smash branded ones just for doing FFA with flatmates.

I might even buy 4 of the smash branded ones just so they're all the same.

What happened to the WiiU pro controller love?

WiiU Pro controller will likely not be tournament legal because sync issues, GC controllers will not have this problem, I like the WIiU pro controller a lot, enjoyed playing with it at Bestbuy, for me the existence of a wired Wii U Pro controller would be the best

What happened to the WiiU pro controller love?

There are some who got used to the WiiU pro controller, but some people like me who never used a pro controller (though I used it once and never used it again) are happy that we're able to use GC controller to play smash.

I wouldn't really mind that ZSS case, since to me it looks like about a half-second delay because ZSS used a powerful down aerial attack -- it's a tradeoff of getting a powerful attack, or missing and being punished. If she (as an already strong character) could use such powerful and quick attacks and immediately escape, that sounds like low risk, high reward to me.

Other characters may of course be in different balance situations, however.

Wii U pro controller or GameCube controller?
I like the Wii U pro controller and I plan to at least give it a shot, but I will probably also try to get the bundle that has the gamecube controller and official adapter.

I guess tournaments having more than one game at a time for efficiency would make sense, if they could be close enough to conflict.

What happened to the WiiU pro controller love?

Picked up a Mayflash adapter and official GC controller over the weekend. I forgot how comfy the GC controller was. I'm a changed man now lol. I still love the Wii U Pro controller (great for Mario Kart 8 online) but since I plan on playing online a lot I want something wired for Smash.

I'll be sticking with the Pro Controller for Smash, but for any reason it doesn't feel right I'll just get a GC adapter with my army of Wavebirds ready to go.

I suppose the select screen could scroll, but I think that would be really sloppy. It would also be difficult to managed scrolling through the screen without accidentally scrolling down to the bottom screen. Even if it's just scrolling left and right, I think it would take too long to scroll all the way from the first row to the last row, if that makes sense. It'd be much faster to just add pages in that case.

Anyway, I just set up a quick example of what I think the select screens could look like. The Wii U screen requires a little bit of imagination since the actual spaces are rectangles not squares (and would need to be shrunk a tiny bit). But I think the 3DS pick pretty clearly shows how the predicted roster more or less perfectly fits into two pages, without having to change the size of the squares at all. I don't think they'd shrink the spaces on 3DS (vs WiiU) because they'd actually have to reduce the size of all the demo squares to a fourth of their size in order to fit them all, which is way too small on a 3DS screen. I'm not gonna argue my order is the most likely order to put the characters though. I included some random DLC characters, which I think will be on a separate page somehow.

I have noticed a theme of dairs having significant landing lag compared to other aerials, but that's more ones that cause you to fall faster.

If you go frame by frame through the sonic one, megaman has a flash appear when he starts to fast fall, haven't noticed that in any of the E3/Best buy demos when a character fast falls.

The lag after bowsers uair seems to be shorter than it was in brawl after some testing but it's nothing significant and he never was a combo-oriented character (atleast not with his uair which is more of an anti-air tool).

Yes, I mentioned in the last thread (though no one responded), that an across the board reduction in landing lag isn't a good idea. Rather landing lag should be balanced the same way damage and knockback are. So each character should have a few weaker approach attacks with low lag, and the stronger aerials that are good for killing, but with higher landing lag.

This is why I've always said that the landing lag should only be lowered if you actually connect with the attack so that aerials are still punishable if you miss or the other person dodges, I've never been a proponent of global landing lag reduction.

We still haven't see break the target, I feel like it'll be in the Wii U version only as we saw tons of stuff of the 3DS one.
Still keeping my hopes though!

I'm surprised we haven't seen more bosses yet, so far we've only really seen Yellow Devil and some images of the find mii 2 final boss. Ridley was teased but we still haven't had confirmation on that yet. Wonder when we'll get more bosses announced/confirmed

I hope that's just a demo thing, because the color selection is a huge step back from Brawl and the fact that costumes take up color slots is really lame.
I'm still holding out for a color edit mode.
Sakurai/Namco pls

Wasn't there a short break the targets segment in the smash direct when it was showing smash run?

Well I still have my three GCN controllers from back in the day so getting the adapter would work out cheaper, but I'm likely to be playing online for multiplayer so the GamePad may suit me fine.

Oh yeah, there was that mini challenge room in Smash Run.
But I'm hoping for something like Melee, one break the target stage per character.

I think if they bring back co-op break the targets then we'll be stuck with generic BTT stages again.

I'm interested in what we're going to get in terms of content on the WiiU version with those 25GB discs.

I think it was a good idea somewhat seperating the two versions in terms of content so the WiiU version won't be as held back (stuff like only 2 tracks on 3DS stages instead of trying to go for parity per stage across both versions).

So which characters do we think are going to be unlockable? I think Jiggs is an obvious one, since she's always unlockable. Luigi is a maybe; he's usually unlockable, but now that he's been revealed before release, maybe not. I expect at least one third party character to be unlockable.

Zer0 getting BTFO in teams, he's not much of a team player haha.

I'm looking forward to seeing how smash 4 teams work out.

The best thing about Smash Bros Wii U being Holiday 2014 is that there is no way in hell they will delay it. It's the only game they have and if they delay it they have nothing else for Wii U at that time for the Holidays.

Thinking about amiibo, it really is going to ruin me :lol
At first I'm getting my favorite characters but I know I'll end up getting everything one day.

Pac-Man, Mega Man, Sonic (3rd Party)
Luigi (was only revealed for Year of Luigi, and it's not exactly a surprise for him to be playable)
Classic unlockables (Captain Falcon, Jiggly, Ness)
Toon Link (Gut feeling)
Any veterans not revealed on the site before launch

Falco and Ganondorf are always unlockable so it's safe to say they will be too.
