Final Fantasy 5 Four Job Fiesta 2014: That Classic Taste [now ending]

Garula another boring long slog fight

Class 2 is red mage

Its amazing how red mage goes from "uh oh" to "cool" if you have black or white mage as your first job. End game white mage with 2x holy and red mage with level 8 white will be good. Plus red mage can break rods so fire ship will be a lot easier.

Toll gate.

Got my Twin Lance and mastered Thief with Willy and Berserker with Lenna. Muahaha.

Gaia Hammer definitely helped a lot with this fight, but it was still a little frustrating with status ailments.

Gonna farm Dragon Fangs now.

2x shell is even better than 2x holy.

I would never ever complain about Red Mages in any form (Solo, full party of RM, Natural, or regular Fiesta) if they had Shell, let alone the rest of the great level 4 spells.

I remember this from last year... forgot that it's already that time again. I went ahead an snagged a used copy of the GBA one off eBay and I'll be playing it for the first time. It'll give my Micro a workout since it's been a while.

Also registered and received my instructions to use the knight. Woop!

3rd job is beast master another new class for me along with white mage. I've honestly never used beast masters before in any run of ff5 outside of control so I guess I'll have to play around with capture more

Hmm, if I have a Knight, a Time Mage, and a Ranger so far, should I go for Chicken Knife or Brave Blade? I haven't run yet.

Either one could work for you, since you have classes that can excel at using at either weapon, but have solid alternatives to either weapon. I guess it comes down to which you find more obnoxious: never running away or grinding up your run total.

You choice might be swayed if you get Dancer as your Earth crystal Job, though.

Red Mages are trying to show me their redeeming qualities and their use of staves saves them from being horrible in a group of physical jobs.

I think I'll beat Shinryu even if I don't need Ragnarok because I haven't escaped from a battle yet. This team was made for that even if it's really mediocre.

Another thing I've realized is that this team is terribly slow. The enemies are attacking before all the party members and I can't wait for some Hermes Sandals.

Ranger is better with chicken knife. Knight can make do with Excalibur and that party can beat Shinryu easily so you can get Ragnarok if you want.

I hate running though so I use Knight as an excuse to never ever run, so I'd go with Brave Blade. I also only play on Active and turn the battle speed to 1 (roughly doubling the speed at which you get attacked) so I'm...odd like that.

The Brave Blade says that I've run from battle twice but I don't remember when. My memory is getting worse than I thought. :P

Now that Bartz has mastered Knight I'm going to transform him into a Monk so I don't have to use the kaiser knuckles over the hermes sandals and give the Ragnarok to someone.

Control is strong too but certain attacks can lead to unexpected counterattacks:

(I assumed the counter would hit the enemy that casted the blaze magic rather than me)

After running face first into the Byblos wall - unable to win that war of attrition with my L19 Thief/Berserker/Knight squad - going to regroup back to the Fire Ship and stockpile Hi-Potions until Level 21 while building up towards Two-Handed on at least two of my characters (who will become my Berserkers in my next Byblos assault).

Dhorme Chimeras are nice for grinding Exp and ABP at that point.

You know, I think Chemist might be a boring class. Sure, !Mix is insanely powerful, but it requires so much grinding for ingredients.

Drinks is where its at. Gulp all of them for a tough battle, and you'll be nigh invincible.

Edit: Huh, didn't know you can run back to town after the boss on the Fire Ship. Wanted a restock before going into the castle proper.

Almost out of Phoenix Downs, so I had to go back to the beginning of the dungeon to refill HP/MP. The dudes here don't sell items and I don't feel like crossing the desert.

Yeah, I'm totally going to beat this. 44 HP at time. Also, what's up with Berserker Leena missing 90% of the time? She's the only one doing decent damage after he buffs himself. :(

Axes and Hammers are inaccurate. Give your berserker the Main Gauche/Guardian Dagger if you got it from the escape the castle sequence and you'll do far more damage.

a) get the Flail
b) seriously, get the Flail
c) make liberal use of Protect.

This, don't forget undead including the undead version of siren are weak to cure. You can silence the boss on the wyvern mountain, keep everyone protected for bosses, back row for your flail user front or back row for everyone else depending on your level

Any advice to get to the next crystal as quickly as poss?

Get the Flail at the beginning of the Ship Graveyard. Give it to your strongest White Mage. This will be 90% of your offense until you get your Water job.

Everything in Ship Graveyard is undead. Makes it a great place to grind if you feel you need it (especially with the free bed halfway through)

Karlabos will be slow, but you shouldn't be in danger.
Siren turns undead, unleash a hailstorm of Cure spells at her, enjoy your only fast pre-Water boss.
Magisa can be silenced. Keep her silenced, cast Protect on everyone, and pummel her as fast as possible. I kept everyone in front row until she went down. Moved everyone to back after to deal with Forza.
Garula will be slow. Keep Protect up and stay in back row. Once the counters come only attack with the Flail wielder. You can get the wonderful Heal Staff by this point, so you should have little problem keeping up with healing.

I have White and Black Mage and two Thieves. What the hell do I do with the Thieves?

Steal everything.

They can also do some decent damage with certain weapons, most notably the Chicken Knife. They can't do the damage across the game that a Knight can do, but they will provide sufficient physical attack power.

I have... done it. I have... become... a Summoner.

With White Mage and Summoner I don't really need to worry much about my remaining classes, do I? What would I need to pull to take down Shinryu or Omega?

Yay!

Got 4 Flame Rings off the Red Dragons, not gonna bother with Reflect Rings until I can steal them off the Reflect Mages.

Also, Willy decided he wanted to dance.

Sword Dance puts Atomos to sleep.

Golem and Berserk are enough to take down Shinryu.

Water Crystal down, Blue Mage -> Berserker so far on my random/risk run.

As advertised, my four blue mages cut through Magissa, Garula, etc. like butter. Toad Garula = Dead Garula. They really can adapt to any situation, and the few blue magics so far have been more than adequate.

Adding Berserker doesn't really seem like a huge plus or minus at this point, other than having one less Blue Mage. Are there any strong synergies coming up or is each class just going to do its own thing?

Equip Axe makes Blue Mages into Mystic Knights, basically (without the armor and abilities, of course).

Thanks for the White Mage party advice, you guys, really appreciated.

Just taken out Karlabos and can get the flail now.

Also in the GBA and smartphone versions Daggers should outdamage any other weapon available for any class that can equip them before you get out of the ship graveyard unless you get two handed on a knight. So that means...Knight, Thief (who has no better weapon anyways) and Blue Mage. I wouldn't bother farming daggers for Knight or Blue Mage but if you get them anyways you might consider leaving the one Faris has on her and giving the second one you get if any on Lenna.

I know I can steal some after I get through the graveyard, but is there a place to get them before that? The shop in the town where you get the key doesn't sell them :(

They are a drop from skeletons in the ship graveyard. A team of four thieves is basically boned without them.

Ah ok. I just died to Karlboss so I think I need a level or two more with my current 4x thief setup. I know I can steal the Mythril Knife in the Walse tower so after I get enough to get through the graveyard I'll be good until the fire crystal at least I think.

Huh? Is the damage formula different? Cause broadsword has more attack right?
