Which is silly, since we haven't seen any faces since the first teaser and that face wasn't very impressive either
Well, anyways, it was good too see it wasn't an MMO. I liked Xenoblade's story mode quite a bit...still not a fan of Elena (or whatever her name is) and having a silent protagonist isn't very fun either. I hope that it's a bit like fire emblem awakening where you can make an avatar, but Chrome is still the main character and the story focuses mostly on him.
Might be LTTP, but am I the only one that thinks that the latest trailer is probably the worst one for the game so far? Instead of focusing on the game's strong points (the massive world/monsters) this one focuses on close ups on the horrible faces and cutscenes. Good thing they played the game on treehouse live.
The E3 trailer is the first one that got me even a bit interested in the game. I'm glad to see Takahashi going back to his roots a bit for the story. I just dread actually having to play the game.
"They changed Fiora bringing curry to shulk because it's a stereotype in Japan. They changed it to her bringing a sandwich which is a stereotype in the west"
Welp, so I just started another Xenoblade save. Not new game + though, I don't think it is as fun. Might not do a full playthrough but whatever. Cheers guys...
What's the source of this GIF? I've been looking for some not-shitty gameplay footage, all the treehouse stuff is really compressed and artifacted. This GIF looks super sharp tho.
I choked on starting a new Xenoblade game tonight, though I thought about it a lot, I just went and played MK8, the attraction is still too strong with this one. D:
Based from the trailer and all the information revealed so far, looks like its story is more of the Gears/Saga type with gameplay focused on Blade. Takahashi himself said that this game is the culmination of what he has learned from all the games he was heavily involved with.
It does, but that's not what I meant. I know that particular sample, and I think it's not from KLK. I believe it was also used in the glorious Susumu Hirasawa soundtrack for the Bereserk TV series, but I'm not sure. Either way, it reminded me of Berserk - and that's a good thing.
They're stiff, but at least they're not as floaty as the Xenoblade animations.
And I believe this game is not nearly as expensive as it appears to be, so I'm totally willing to accept some small blemishes here and there. The game seems insanely ambitious, so they had to cut corners - I mean, Monolith as a whole is 120 people or something, Ubisoft Montreal is close to 3000. The fact that Monolith can do what they do with such a small team, on an (I assume) still sensible budget is commendable in itself.
I never really figured out how to work skill trees and was always confused what to upgrade and everytime I try nothing would activate or whatever, so I gave up on, now I feel like messing with it again when chuggaconroy explained it.
I've been going through a few playthroughs of Xenoblade, switching between English and Japanese to compare. The English VAs do a very good job. I'm a huge fan of Fiora's English voice.
But having said that, the Japanese is a huge improvement in pacing and intensity, which is pretty obvious in the Colony 9 attack scene and
Fiora's death
. I do understand if Japanese is not your thing.
The other trade off is that I never actually knew about 'Reyn Time' until now, having played Japanese voice all the way.

I think it is a big budget game no doubt about it. Knowing Takahashi from the previous games he made, he really is so ambitious when it comes to his works, and I'm glad it really gets funded and fully backed by Nintendo. Maybe there's some iffy stuffs here and there that we can see but I don't mind as long as Monolithsoft prioritizes the feel and experience of this game, just like in the 1st one.

Skill trees in Xenoblade aren't really that complicated. I mean, you start with only three trees per character (and can unlock an additional two through side quests), and the skills unlock automatically as you level up. Basically, start with the skill tree you consider most interesting and switch to a different tree once it's maxed out. All unlocked skills are always active except for the "main" skill, so once you've unlocked everything, just switch to the tree with the most beneficial main skill.
Now, cross-linking skills kind of is a science in itself, but not really all that complicated either. The most important thing to keep in mind is that in this game, the typical class-armor correlation is inverted, which means tanks perform better with light armor because heavier sets have agility penalties (and the best defense is not getting hit), whereas support characters should use heavy armor. But they don't have the skills to wear them, so that's something you will want to cross-link. That's actually really "by design" - there are heavy armor sets specifically designed for Melia and Sharla, but they can't wear them unless you cross-link specific skills.

I remember I didn't think to try putting heavy armor on the "lighter" characters, so when I put some on Melia during my second playthrough, and she came out looking like some sort of regal queen, I was like "Did they design the armor for her? Everybody else looks so gaudy in this Heavy Armor?"

Melia and Sharla are intended to wear heavy armour, ergo it's pretty much the only thing that doesn't look awful on them (especially Sharla). Reyn and Dunban should prioritise agility, so remove all their clothing.

Oh I've tried the "armorless Dunban", I noticed that they encourage it even within the skill trees... but Reyn? Didn't realize Reyn could go armorless as well.
Yeah. No armor plus the agility buffs in the skill trees plus the armor-less agility bonus gives him enough agility to be almost invincible, even against higher-level enemies.

Looks like they only started uploading Day 3 videos today. It is 10:40PM in California (same timezone as Washington) so unless someone's working late, I would expect the other Day 3 content to be uploaded tomorrow (surely they'll want to upload Wii Sports Club? )

I think many people don't take into account how small the teams and budgets from Nintendo are in comparison to other developers, yet they create highly detailed and very polished worlds. This new Xenoblade title pretty much shows what Nintendo can do with a "small" team on a moderate budget.
Of course we don't actually know how much was spent on this game (Wii games cost around 5-10 mil.), but I'm pretty sure it's far away from 100 mil. If Ubisoft used let's say 100 mil. for Watch Dogs, which released on multiple platforms, I'd say Xenoblade might cost 20-30 mil. to make. The comparably small budgets must be one reason why Nintendo profits so much from software sales. This by itself is very impressive to me. I think the other developers could learn a thing or two from Nintendo when it comes to project and budget management - game development has become a black hole that sucks in way too much money.
curse your restarting talk...
I already put the disk in... but I have to resist hitting the power button. I can't let this 50 hour game come between me and my bachelors thesis.
It's probably way too early to say, but I have a feeling I'm going to prefer Xenoblade's world over X's. X's world looks fantastic, and I can't wait to dive in and explore it, but...
There was something so fascinating and original about Xenoblade's world being on the surface of two giant mech
gods who did battle thousands of years ago.
Like seriously, it is probably the most original world concept I have ever seen in a game. And I just don't know if they will top it. And I'm just talking about the concept so far... the actual world design was top of its class with areas that looked very different, distinct, colorful, and had such fantastic views. I was always excited to see what was around the next corner.
I came to accept that we wont get a world as insanely awesome as the one in the original xenoblade ever again. There is no way to top that concept. But I'm ok with that. Xenocross doesn't need to be a better game than xenoblade, it just needs to be an awesome game on it's own.
I picked up a new copy at GameStop too and am replaying it on the wii u. I'm surprised how well it holds up on my 55" tv, then again the TVs upscaler is pretty damn good. Was expecting it to look unplayable. I'd previously played it on a CRT with the uk version.
If your WiiU is set to 1080p, your TVs upscaler doesn't matter as it gets fed a 1080p signal from the Wiiu. It's upscaled internally, though it's not rendered at 1080p obviously.
And now, I always thought that these two pictures above represent the first area that we see in the large overview here,
but they are actually behind the fog (by observing the environment), so it's larger than I thought:

Right, but according to this, the budget for Skyrim was a whopping 85 mil. $. I don't think Nintendo would spend this much money on a single game. It will still be interesting to see how both games compare.

I am someone who loved to level grind in RPGs in Xenoblade if you over level the bosses may become easy but I did grind to level up
my goals in JRPGs I love is to reach the max level 99
I feel Xenoblade X from the tree house demos gave too much freedom to level up
you have a small boss type fight at the city gates the city is the goal but you have plenty of enemies out there to level up, not sure if this is a good or a bad thing for me.
Will I want to rush to see the city and move the story along or will I spend 5-8 hours before the city collecting guns and armor and the little quest items

I will definitely explore quite a bit before going to the city. Hopefully I'll be able to hunt some Unique Monsters (assuming the game has them) and have some fun fights.

I was playing other games when the first one was released and I had no idea it would become so hard to come by. Xenoblade represents an unforgivable gap in my gaming resume.
All the in battle party chats are really good in English. Just the random little jokes and comments they make to each other. Some of them are actual conversations that it maters what party members you have as well.
