Nice song lol

I believe USA today likes football. The numbers don't lie.

Average attendance on Brasileirao (Brazilian Football Championship) 2012 - 13.013
Average attendance on Major League Soccer (US Football Championship) 2012 - 18.807

Nope, we don't like the sport, don't understand it, and don't even know the rules.

Please keep underestimating us, world.

please?

Eddie Johnson is not a target forward. Everyone wants him to be a target forward because of his size, but because of his overall speed and athleticism he wants to be the playmaker who either creates his own chance or finishes the chance created by a hold-up man. He continually fucks up when a nice ball is played into him by trying to dribble through five defenders and score a hero goal instead of stretching out the defense and playing the ball off to someone else. Klinsmann made the right decision by keeping him off this roster.

Juan Agudelo is young and talented but hasn't done enough yet to warrant being included over the other bench striker options, especially since he is not a target forward. Boyd is a tall, athletic man and has a good strike rate for Rapid Vienna, and he didn't make it. Johannsson had a good season for AZ and usually shows much better than he did against Ghana. Wondolowski isn't big or athletic, but he has a great sense of movement and is a terrific poacher.

Agudelo is not a better forward option than the ones on our roster for this tournament, and neither is Eddie Johnson.

By the way, what's happening to Freddy Adu? Heard he was having training at Blackpool but nothing much after.

They didn't offer him a contract because he sucks. He's still looking for a club, and it'll be a miracle if he finds one.

I supposed Pepe getting a red card is a good thing: with or without the red card, Portugal will lose anyways (probably 1-3). At least now Pepe won't implode himself at the crucial match against USA and Ghana.

Positive thing about Portugal losing by this much is that they will give their 100% to beat the US and Ghana. Sometimes they are prone to underestimate their opponents and I don't see it happening this time. Each game is do or die now.

Portugal are always the same - can never beat teams above them, but always do well against the teams ranked below. Flat track bullies.

I don't pay attention to soccer, can anyone give me a quick break down of the USA roster? I only remember Clint Dempsey. What is the strength and weakness of the team etc?

Was keeping Donovan off the roster a good move?

Great win today by the us! I was excited even though I had no idea what was going on.

Not even close. Have you seen Portugal play the qualifiers? They always choke against lesser teams but and then do much better in the main competition. Last 2 comps, they lost to the champions aka Spain (took the penalty shoot out for them to win in 2012). Since the year 2000 (barring 2002) Portugal has been doing quite well. Especially considering its population size.

I just remembered that dude who said he would streak on the field in the 89th minute. Smh at people who believed him. Dude was just fishing for followers and retweets.

Tim Howard (Goal) remains the Americans best player. Beyond him, Michael Bradley (central midfield) and Dempsey (forward) are the best players.

The US has a strong central midfield, with Bradley, Jermaine Jones and Kyle Beckerman, but lacks in the wide areas where they've been strong in the past.

On Defense, there's a lot of inexperience and uncertainty. Fabian Johnson at right back is an excellent two-way player, while the rest of the defensive corps is either untested (Cameron, Besler, Brooks, Chandler, Gonzales) or moving to defense after a career in midfield (Beasley)

In general, the US main tactic is to clog the middle and break down opposition defenses in transition. They don't have the speed of years past to break out on the counter-attack, but have a lineup of players who defend well from midfield, and have the skill to put together a quick strong of passes to score.

As in years past, the US has several players who are adept at getting on the end of free kicks to create scoring opportunities.

As for the Donovan question, I'm not touching it.

Our midfield has been our strength for the past couple of years but was very bad today. Our defense has been our weakness for the past many years but played decently well today. Jozy Altidore is one of our best attacking options but was injured today.

EDIT: Brashnir answered better than I did.

This is a strange day indeed. Germany's dismantling of Portugal combined with Ghana being shocked by the Crying Eagles of Freedom suddenly makes the possibility of the USA emerging from the Group of Death not impossible anymore. It's still just an outside chance and it depends heavily on Portuguese continuing failure but yes, I'm saying there's a chance.

Portugal 2010

Drew with Brazil, Ivory Coast (both teams about on their level at that stage)
Thrashed North Korea 7-0
Lost to Spain

That sums up what I mean.

So your proof is 1 campaign? Ok...

Just so you get a bit of context about their performance, Carlos Queiroz was the coach and the team was self destructing. The fact that they even qualified and came out of their group is a miracle.

OMG OMG OMG

Rumours say Capello is supposedly unbanishing Dzagoev for tomorrow's game. Get in. Now it will likely be a watchable 0-0 draw instead of a boring one. Hngg

Altidore's injury cements my opinion that Donovan needed to be on the American side. If Jozy comes back and is effective, the team dodged a bullet. If not, leaving the most experienced and proven World Cup goal scorer off the roster was a mistake.

I realize they play a vastly different game from one another, but offense is offense.
