Oh dear.

Anyway. I saw first hand how Eddie was used in Seattle and in qualifiers fur the US. Looked like a target forward to me. But this is all moot. Wondo and Yo-handsome is what you got.

emphasis on slightly

This annoys me, Portugal might never win anything but it still does very well considering it's a tiny country, look at the last 4 euros and 2 world cups

Euro 2000: semi's (beaten by the champion).. 2004: final.. 2008: quarters (beaten by a finalist).. 2012: semi's (beaten by champion)..

World Cup 2006: semi's.. 2010: round of 16 (beaten by champion)..

Portugal's side from the early 2000's was amazing though, so many great players. They had every chance of winning those tournaments.

Just caught up with the thread. Hilarious stuff, as usual.

What a game! US stole one but sometimes that is what you have to do. Just a huge win. What a great moment for Brooks and for US soccer and its fans.

There is still work to be done if we want to get out of the group though. Firstly, Bradley needs to get his head out of his ass. He played like shit today. He has to turn it around or we have no hope. And Klinsi needs to come up with a different plan of attack up front, as Jozy's World Cup is almost certainly done.

Hopefully, over the next few days the US can regroup, recover and and then play much better in Manaus than they did here.

I BELIEVE

I thought the US was outclassed and outplayed for much of the game and I had no hope they'd go through if Bradley couldn't replicate his form against Nigeria. Let's just be thankful they miraculously pulled this game off even though he played like crap.

Need to get better to move on.

Paulo Bento seems to be the type of coach that would rather call up players he's friends with, those he coached before, or those that Jorge Mendes wants. He lacks balls. Portugal has a bunch of good coaches, there's no reason for him to be coach. Worst part is we're stuck with him until 2016.

one day José Mourinho will guide us to the World Cup

Thierry Henri dive inside the box fucked dat up in 2006, Fuck France seriously

Why has the thread title not been updated for freedom?

2014 FIFA World Cup |OT2| Ghana can't cross the babbling Brooks of freedom

Terrance Boyd, Eddie Johnson... even Juan Agudelo would be far closer to it than say Chris Wondolowski (see Agudelo's header to Bradley vs Russia)... Wondo always plays with a target man for San Jose, Agudelo can handle being up front by himself.

John Brooks: target forward. He's a goal scorer, I tells ya!

I went to the movie theater in the student union to watch the match because they were showing it on the big screen, and the entire audience there gave a round of applause every time Tim Howard blocked a shot.

It was pretty funny.
I just had to share that fulfillment of an American stereotype.

It's going to be difficult. Klinsmann is going to have to make a tactical adjustment assuming Altidore can't play. They brought one back-to-goal forward and three more who work best off of that kind of guy. They didn't being any guys who work the back shoulder of the defense to create breakaways (which Johnson is), but they did bring three guys who will fight for, and find space in the box if its available. I suspect we'll see more Graham Zusi, who links up well with those sorts of forwards from midfield.

Mike Magee would be destroying defenses and shaming keepers right now! Dumb Klinsmann picking shitty europeans from 2nd division Bundeslol clubs.

Eddie Johnson is so bad lol, can't believe some of you are mentioning him. I'd rather give some unproven kid a shot then give Johnson another cap ever again. Hell start Julian Green up front, give him a shot at forward. He can't be worse then EJ.

I thought Eddie Johnson was the answer for the national team way back in 2006. Never again.

I'd have preferred a kid, Green is a wide player, why not take Boyd or Agudelo and see what they can do...

That's a ridiculous statement. Julian Green has no place in the current squad at all. But you hate EJ I get it.

Call me crazy but I think Portugal will not only beat the US but run the scoreboard up. Portugal always seems to run up the scoreboard on one team the group stages of Euros & WCs. This may be the one where this happens.

They're going to need to if they want to get out of the group.

bring it on

I like Wondo too, but neither him nor Johannson are good subs for the way Altidore plays. No use in talking about that now anyway. We'll just have to make due.

I definitely agree we can take Portugal though. It'll be rough going, but we can do it.
Yeah. Agreed. Really scared for the future though.
If deserves is the criteria than sure you are right. But the best team should go. Meaning the all the pieces that fit for a given system. I just happen to think that system should be around a target striker and someone great in the air and strong. Jozy and Eddie are the only two that fit that - Johansson is going to get destroyed out there.

Perhaps he can prove me wrong.
Having a target striker is definitely not the only way the game can be played. Unfortunately, it's far more effective when you aren't able to have the quality that a team such as Germany can have. The ability to hold up play is extremely important, and we shall see how the USA can adapt.

But seriously though. Eddie is not the solution. He has been shit.

Aren't they down a man for the US game?

Positive thing about Portugal losing by this much is that they will give their 100% to beat the US and Ghana. Sometimes they are prone to underestimate their opponents and I don't see it happening this time. Each game is do or die now.

Portugal are dead and will be dead forever and ever! The cock will rise through his ashes and shame all in his way!

If the USA gets out of the group second they might be up against Belgium. That would surely make for an interesting game. That is if Belgium becomes first.

when Mexico won against Cameroon, i was eating lunch at a Mexican restaurant for an office b-day lunch.

I will go seek a taco place in town for lunch to show my support for El Tri

Go Mexico!

VAMOS CARALHO!!!

Sunday get here fast.

Is Graham Zusi a good player? I didn't see much of him in the Ghana/US match.

Zusi is a solid two-way player. He's not the most talented player in the world, but he often plays good balls into dangerous spaces, and plays a solid tactical game.

He'd definitely not one of the best American players, but I personally feel he's underrated. His corner led to the winning goal tonight.

Fuck yeah, America. Ghana really wasted their chances, I was expecting them to get the win the way they were playing, but freedom triumphed

Everyone who underestimated the US saying they would lose every game can eat shit. bring on Portugal

Belgium beat us pretty soundly in the last friendly we played with them. Would take a good bit of luck to triumph.
