I don't pay attention to soccer, can anyone give me a quick break down of the USA roster? I only remember Clint Dempsey. What is the strength and weakness of the team etc?
Was keeping Donovan off the roster a good move?
Great win today by the us! I was excited even though I had no idea what was going on.
Tim Howard (Goal) remains the Americans best player. Beyond him, Michael Bradley (central midfield) and Dempsey (forward) are the best players.
The US has a strong central midfield, with Bradley, Jermaine Jones and Kyle Beckerman, but lacks in the wide areas where they've been strong in the past.
On Defense, there's a lot of inexperience and uncertainty. Fabian Johnson at right back is an excellent two-way player, while the rest of the defensive corps is either untested (Cameron, Besler, Brooks, Chandler, Gonzales) or moving to defense after a career in midfield (Beasley)
In general, the US main tactic is to clog the middle and break down opposition defenses in transition. They don't have the speed of years past to break out on the counter-attack, but have a lineup of players who defend well from midfield, and have the skill to put together a quick strong of passes to score.
As in years past, the US has several players who are adept at getting on the end of free kicks to create scoring opportunities.
As for the Donovan question, I'm not touching it.
