I imagine the bigger Snake complication is Konami probably didn't want Hayter voicing Snake, especially not when they're trying to make Sutherland the voice of Snake, and no one was going to pay Sutherland to come in for Smash.

Sutherland is voicing Naked Snake/Big Boss, though. Smash has Solid Snake. If anything, this would help Kojima solidify his retcon in gravely voices!
I miss Doyle

This may have made sense before Hayter made a very public display of not being chosen, including polling fans about how upset they would be if he wasn't voicing Snake. I think that bridge burned down.

Is it possible Kojima owns Hayter voice clips they can simply reuse without Hayter's consent? Like, did Hayter sign away the long-term rights to those clips? I know that in an ideal world Sakurai would have Hayter in the studio recording reams and reams of hidden codec calls, but I'd rather have Snake in the game barely saying anything, than no Snake at all...

Exactly.

Right now, I'm guarded emotionally in case he's cut, but I'll be celebrating if he's announced. :-)

He's litteraly the only thing I care about at this point besides the returning vets. As long as Snake comes back and the expected Falcon, Wario, Ness ect. return, I'm fine with the roster as is. Ridley would be reallly nice, but I can deal.

The bad part is I've been over all the logic tons of times and it all makes sense for him to return. I'm confident right now, so if he doesn't, I'm gonna be devestated.

It's just...so beautiful. Snake in Smash Bros. How did this happen?...Why did this happen?...Why is it so perfect?....

You....you can't take that away from me man...

I'm a firm believer that Sakurai is all about unique characters, first and foremost. And there's no one who stands out more on the Brawl roster than Snake. Not just his looks, but his moves. And that's why I believe that if Sakurai can bring Snake back, he will bring Snake back. I can only imagine how proud Sakurai must've been to pull off a sneaking character like that in Smash.

On Konami's end, you'd think it's in their best interest, as well. MGSV might not be on a Nintendo platform, but Snake in Smash is free advertising that will generate noise and help MGSV all the same. It's good for the MGS brand.

So yeah, maybe Shocking_Alberto's Hayter theory is the potential fly in the ointment. I really hope they sort it out and make Snake happen.

I'd really like it if Snake were in, because Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance music could be in Smash Bros. if he was, but given how Sakurai's touting the three confirmed third-party characters as a huge accomplishment, I'm guessing they're it; if Snake were in, surely he'd save the "huge accomplishment" posts for when all four were revealed.
On the other hand, Sakurai did say he wanted to make Smash 4 the #1 "character" game of all-time in the roundtable after revealing Pac-Man. Getting rid of Snake really wouldn't make sense in that regard. He represents a side of gaming that would be completely and utterly unrepresented without him.

Also, Sakurai did the same thing when Sonic was revealed. He sorta treated them as "the big 3", and that made me a little bit worried about Pac-Man:

THAT is about the only wall I've really hit though. I don't know how that would be solved.

They could probably reuse Hayter's clips like they've done for other characters so far, but that would pretty much be disrespectful to Hayter at this point.

Sutherland....yeah. I imagine he costs more.

Stupid fucking Jack Bauer. Screwin shit up.

I dunno, if I were Hayter I think I'd be pleased that my "real" Snake voice is being heard in one of the biggest franchises around, even if it's not the "home" franchise where it belongs

I think ideally I'd like Snake back with Hayter's voice and new codec conversations about the newcomers.

Campbell: They say he grew up on the mean streets and is considered an underdog because of his size, but he rose to the ranks of world champion.
Snake: That pipsqueak became heavyweight champion? What about King Hippo?!
Campbell: Snake...he even beat King Hippo.
Snake: ...I'll have to be careful.

Yeah, Snake isn't happening. If he was we would have heard something from Kiefer or Hayter by now I'm sure and the game needs to be ironed out enough as it is in the final months.

Since we got Palutena revealed, I'm guessing we'll have an official Magnus AT update this week.

I think the really weird thing is how little Sutherland is in everything we've seen so far. He barely says five words in Ground Zeroes (and the things he does say aren't...good) and every trailer has been almost silent concerning Snake. I wonder if even Konami could barely afford him, so they cut down on all his dialogue.

Oh god they were so good.

Snake: "Otacon! There's a gorrila wearing a tie here!"

I would be so psyched for more.

Snake: What is that -- some sort of hipster frog?
Campbell: They call him Greninja. He's highly mobile, so proceed with caution.
Snake: Gray Ninja? You're mixing names, Colonel. Gray Fox or Cyborg Ninja.
Campbell: ......

Sutherland is paid by the word. He's paid extra for emotional delivery.

And we wondered how MGSV would have less cutscenes.

Sal Romano's leaker a fraud???

It's all ogre now, Lucas isn't cut confirmed.

Lucas is cut

Man, back in the day I thought Snake was a shoo-in for the next Smash, along with all of his codecs...I could almost -hear- Campbell going "This is a once in a lifetime chance, Snake. Now get out there and show him what you're made of. No regrets.", and Snake changing his dialogue to "ONCE in a lifetime?...You sure about that?..." this time around.

To think the Colonel, indeed, may have been telling it like it is.

Well there is a point to consider that sutherland is big boss and not solid snake

I sincerely hope not. I have noticed that too. I just kind of dislike everything about his involvement. And if he fucks this up....so help me Jack Bauer...

I find that encouraging for the other vets, especially Snake.

I mean, if this leaker is legit and saw a roster finalized without Snake, you think that'd be noted.

I don't know, everyone sort of pegged Snake for being cut, seems he'd figure it was given. I mean I have no hope he'll return.

Sutherland's involvement reeks of Kojima seeking Hollywood validation. I'd argue Kojima's cinematic aspirations (not his thematic ones) are the biggest undoing of his otherwise solid games.

Just thinking of the cutscenes in MGS4 gives me indigestion.

Sure.

But I haven't seen anything to indicate Konami kissed and made up with Hayter. Even the Solid Snake lines in Ground Zeroes' preorder mission were done (really badly) by Sutherland.
I haven't played GZ, but are you saying there's a mission with Solid Snake and it seems Hayter deliberately phoned in the performance out of spite? (Italics not incredulous toward you, dear friend, but toward Hayter if that's the case)

I love the cutscenes! Got a little weird (not the good weird) in MGS4 at times, but they're definitely part of the show for me.

Sometimes I think, damn Kojima, make a movie already. It's obvious you're dying too.

No, no. There's a mission in Ground Zeroes where you see a bunch of old Metal Gear Solid things and dialogue plays that is ostensibly a memory of Solid Snake, but since there's no Hayter, Sutherland reads the line. And he reads it with no context for the original scene and seemingly bored.

MGS4 was such a weird experience for me. It "works"... kind of, sort of... when you take it in stride as a sort of arthouse film. But the editing... Or lack thereof... See the first Drebin cutscene... and every other Drebin cutscene...

If brevity is the soul of wit, Kojima is not so witty.

Oh wow, my apologies, I totally misread what you said. :-x

I can totally see Hades or whoever overriding the codecs when a Palutena/Pit codec is started.

I feel like the Hayter thing has been bubbling for a while, anyway. It always struck me as curious that they never brought over the Snake sword for Rising. At first I thought it was simply a cost thing, that they didn't want to bring in Hayter for the work while Akio Otsuka was already in the studio doing MGSV trailers. But thinking about it, they were probably already considering bumping Hayter then.

Uhm... I see more and more people believing the leaker, but I'm still sceptical.

Correct me if I'm wrong, we know for sure he guessed Little Mac, Palutena, Mii and Pac-Man.
- Little Mac returned in the new Punch-Out for Wii.
- Palutena was teased to death. Sakurai also developed Kid Icarus Uprising. Furthermore, he said he was going to put more female characters in Smash 4.
- Mii is also playable in MKW, MK7, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, basically every Nintendo character-based online game.
- Pac-Man is Namco's rep.

I don't count Greninja as an actual prediction -- every Smash introduced a Pokémon from the latest generation, and of course Smash 4 is no exception. He simply said "Pokémon from X/Y".

The hardly predictable characters are Villager, WFT, Shulk and Chorus Men. The first two were posted after their reveal. The latter remain to be seen.

And he completely failed to predict Rosalina.

So you're saying...

Ridley still has a chance?

I was there.

I still think they should have localised that as the 'Solidus Snake Sword'. They already had Cygan do some more lines for the promotional campaign, why not do that as well?
