Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

I loved the Alpha, but had my fill as I don't want to overdo the alpha or beta and be sick of the game before it launches. :D

I got my Hunter up to level 8 and did the story and strike on Brave and Legendary, and spent a good while exploring free roam and the tower. Only did one PvP match as I'm not really into competitive MP much at all--and control/domination type modes are my least favorite.

Also tried out Warlock and Titan classes--just the story mission and a little free roam for each to check out the special powers. I'll probably stick with Hunter. Warlock was fun too though. Titan appealed to me the least.

Does anyone have any suggestions for similar titles on PC or PS4 to tide me over until the beta/release?

Even better if fellow gaffers can assemble there.

Warframe is loot grind tps, not really similar gameplay but its coop shooting and pretty fun if that's the part you need tiding over on. Ftp, but not egregious. Be warned though the ui is horrendous.

Worth trying out anyway. Really horrendous ui.

Alpha sold me on Destiny though, was really surprised. Its really just nice to see something a little different hit the market, it's like an fps rediscovery of the arena shooter.

What are the chances this becomes bigger than Halo? After playing the alpha, it reaffirmed my feelings that Microsoft letting go of Bungie was a huge mistake.

Destiny will be a bigger game with wider appeal, but Halo is still going to be a bigger franchise. If we're talking in terms of multiplayer, I don't think Destiny is going to take that throne from Halo, especially with the games that held it coming back this year.

Although if we want to get technical, Bungie is still behind all of it.

Halo has yet to take the crown back from COD
so the crown is up for grabs, and when I say up for Grabs I mean Destiny will Snatch it as soon as it releases. Just wait until the people who decided to stay with Microsoft finally get a taste. All they were able to do was watch us have fun. Watching is nothing, people watched videos before playing and they were all like 'meh'
They got their hands on it and are now believers... Destiny is a hell of a drug

What makes you say that?

I feel like bumping Destiny 60 fps wouldn't really have any major effect on sales. Maybe the core would be happier, but the main consumer base wouldn't be swayed that much. I imagine for most of them, frames per second doesn't influence their decision, and that's even if they are even really aware of what it is/the difference between the two.

My poetry skills have faded, thank you :D

I think you underestimate the effect of the fluidity of 60 frames per second and the popularity that Call of Duty achieved.

Call of Duty is a run off the mill competitive shooter for the core gamer. And core gamers are the ones I see getting excited for Destiny because of the intricacies that the casual doesn't bother to stop and appreciate. The glue that kept the casuals stuck to CoD was the snappy and responsive and "realistic" feedback.

EDIT:

What I'm saying is, in the eyes of the masses, CoD has established that 60fps be the standard for "good shooters" worth a look. If you add that bullet point to your game it's like adding Brazzers oil to the slip n' slide from CoD to Destiny for core AND casuals alike.

Unfortunately wasn't around over the weekend to try it, but I feel most people enjoyed it! How would you describe your experience in a couple of sentences?
Take Defiance.
Scale back the open world player count for smoother performance.
Add a whole bunch of money.

It's fun.

Most intuitive inventory screen i've ever used btw

1) Let us customise the grid from which you choose weapons and armour so its easier to do on the fly, given the lack of pause.
2) Prefer side-by-side stat comparisons, so if I compare 2 weapons it looks more like this

----------Impact------
----------Range----------------------
----------Reload------------

Also would be cool if there were accesspories with minor stat boosts like the rings in the Souls games, but it's too late to add that kind of thing

Do cloaks ever change your stats, or are the just for show?

Also, why exactly take it down altogether? Couldn't they have left Old Russia and SP content open to explore on your own? Only managed to play for an hour or so, wanted to see more :(

Did anyone else get information overload? This weekend I was rushing to play since I scheduled to meet my SO at her summer internship location. When I got on Destiny there were just so many things to learn and do for me. Anyone have a link to a tutorial video that covers everything?

I said God Damn, I NEED that helmet!

I like the cloak a lot too, but I don't know how I feel about the rest of the armor.

I find this worrying. New thread? Is this what they mean when they said they have managed to get the XB1 version up to 1080p? By reducing the framerate on BOTH versions:

Ugghhh... Such bad news... I'm hearing the framerate isn't a problem, but damn, if they could bump it up to 60fps, that would be amazing. I'm still somewhat counting on a PC version, even if it comes out years from now. I guess we'll see how closely the two generations resemble each other when the beta launches.

I don't know if there is a better place to ask this, but does anyone know what the spaceships do (if anything) from a gameplay perspective?

There are other game modes we know nothing about yet so it's hard to say. Personally I believe they will only ever be loading screen thingamabobs.

I really can't bring myself to play other games until the beta. I keep wanting to start something, but then I remember Destiny and the time I could be spending in it... I wish the Alpha was still running. ;-;

Also, I need to change this DS2 avatar into something from Destiny.

I didnt get in on alpha, but it's really greate to see all the positive feedback on this game. I have been unsure about getting it, but it's really rare to see so many positive post about the same game :-)

Ok so it sounds like there is a chance they could serve some purpose but we don't know yet.

Here's my bets:
A special mode where you CO-OP and/or Solo Starfighter battles against AI swarms.
Provide storage for trading goods between space stations.
Different powered engines to reach more distant and exotic planets with their own unique missions.
You can buy an Apartment ala GTA and store/collect them to show off to your buddies.
You could cut laps in front of the Tower to attract and pick-up hot alien babes.

The average CoD fan has no idea that the game runs at 60fps. They like unlocking new guns and new scopes. The metagame was what skyrocketed CoD. Nine out of ten CoD fans would say it was some part of building the loadouts and completing challenges. This allows you to win in CoD even when your team loses. You still made progress. It is all carrot and no stick. People hated when the plateaued in rank in Halo 2 and hated even more when the lost rank in Halo 2 for losing games. People love forward progress. It is the same reason WoW came along and blew the doors off of Everquest and all other MMO's where it was hard to reach maximum level.
