PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | June 2014

Shit, I bought MH3U and Pokemon X and I literally can not remember the last time I played with my 3DS. Persona Q might be the only game I get for it this year since I refuse to pay the exorbitant prices for 3DS games on eShop and retail. However, I play on my Vita almost everyday. It really sucks to see how slanted people are on here towards Vita and 3DS when Vita honestly beats the shit out of it in games and playability.

Well thats your opinion. I think 3DS has great games and more games that appeal to me than Vita. I mainly play jrpgs and 3DS has more of them in that regard.

I dunno. Both are great, i'm looking forward to Vita's upcoming lineup way more than any other system

Now now don't be talking crazy. Even with Sony ignoring the system it still nukes the 3DS from orbit in terms of game lineup. Words alone can't express how much I was burned by the 3DS. It's disappointing that Sony aren't supporting the Vita first party wise as much as they used to and should be, but at least the indies make up for it. Vita continues to be awesome in spite of Sony's treatment of it. 3DS on the other hand I consider to be a disaster of epic proportions. I've never felt buyers remorse for any system the way I do with the 3DS. Haven't even touched it in god knows how long.

Now that's hyperbole if I ever read one.

You say some pretty out there things man but this is certifiably insane. Love my 3DS and my Vita pretty much equally, but yikes. Anyway, this isn't a healthy direction to take any thread in. Maybe we shouldn't discuss the 3DS in here; it isn't particularly relevant.

Of course there is subjectivity on some of the post but you can't argue the amount of games on the Vita releasing this year is superior to the 3DS. Can't help it after the amount of good games that came out for it last year.

Persona Q on the other hand will release for $50 IIRC so better prepare some more cash for that Persona goodness.

Wish europeans could play some of those games too you know :P

Amount of big games though? There isn't a Smash/Pokemon Hoenn remake equivalent on Vita, or anything close to that caliber. Minecraft I guess. I agree subjectivity is everything though; and I'll leave it at that, since this is a PSN thread.

I don't like Japanese titles, so a big portion of the Vita "must haves" are moot for me.

I agree that Smash and Hoenn remakes are god tier, though.

One handheld you buy for niche titles being localized and for decent enough PS3 games on a handheld.

The other you buy for amazing first party support.

They occupy the same market technically, but they couldn't be any further apart in the reasons I buy them. I'm a handheld gamer all the way. Both my Vita and 3DS get played, many times every day for both. I'll go from hacking away in Dynasty Warriors 8 to playing Kirby or something on my 3DS and then go back and play a God of War PSP game on my Vita.

Sometimes life sucks and I have to charge both at the same time. Then I really cry :(

As much as I enjoyed DoA:D on it, the 3DS is an awful system for fighters

Mainly because of it's shoddy hardware. It's so uncomfortable

Erryone should be getting the new Smash on the WiiU and be played with the GC controllers like the way God intended it

I will be getting Smash on 3DS.

will skip WiiU version unless $10

Smash may be famous and a masterpiece, but honestly is it a big game? It's just a fighting game, do characters, backgrounds and some modes and you have a fighting game.

Think of Oreshika and Freedom Wars for example, other than characters, backgrounds and modes there are weapons, enemies, dialogues, missions etc.

Pokemon may be famous and a masterpieces, but they are just remakes, the game(story, characters, mechanics etc) is already there, you only need redo assets.

Oreshika, Freedom Wars, Gravity Rush 2(if it's really GR"2" and on Vita) and probably others are all more expensive games than Smash and Pokemon remakes imo, obviously fame and sales-wise it's the opposite.

Because Smash, Pokémon and pretty much the entire good 3DS game library are not Japanese?

What?

you can't be serious now.

Gravity Daze, Freedom Wars, and Oreshika bigger than Smash, let alone Pokemon?

Crisis Core was a bad game.

It saved the PSP during its pre-Monhun days, but not by virtue of being a good game.

With that said, Square Enix really hates money for having never re-released it on digital. I will never understand that.

After watching Advent Children Complete, I went to look for a new copy of Crisis Core online, and...

THE PRICE!

lol

I guess this is because it's not available digitally and physical copies are a rarity nowadays if SQEX doesn't reprint them anymore.

Maybe he meant bigger in a sense that it cost more to develop those than a reiteration of Smash and Pokemon where there are existing assets that can be copied. The 3DS assets could just be a dumbed down Wii U asset and the ones on the new Pokemon remake could use X&Y's assets as well. This could mean that less money was needed to develop these games.

nVidia Shield?

Well, they're not the same thing. Shield is about streaming games, I'd have to buy two new devices(the Shield and at least a nVidia gfx card) to do something I could do more comfortably with just getting a PS4 and streaming its games to my Vita.

Steamboy is (well, should've been) a handheld steam machine.

while the pro vita crowd is probably stronger in this topic than most others here on GAF, I tend to agree with the sentiment

I'm going to get persona q for 3ds later this year but I think that's literally the only game in 2014 I'm even looking at

Bought it for Fire Emblem last year and enjoyed that and about 95% of what i've played / what is available is shit I dont want to play ever

why its more popular than the wii u(or even vita) I'll never understand

edit: this is counting pokemon and monster hunter as "shit I dont want to play ever"
Unfortunately I can't deny I'm feeling something like this. Sonic Boom is the only retail game I'm anticipating for 3DS period...and that isn't bad, because on Vita it's the almost the same.
The problem is that even the eshop has got nothing I'm looking forward to. Basically just Gunman Clive 2 and Shantae. Maybe SK.

No, Shield does not just stream, it is also a standalone Android platform.

Sony/Nintendo effort-wise, in general new jrpg/new open world requires more time and money that a jrpg remake/fighting game imo.

The budget Scamco/Nintendo has for Smash alone wipes out all those games in terms of time and money.

You do realize, it's being developed for two platforms right?

oh boy where to begin.

I'll just say its amusing how easy you think fighting games are made.

A remake on a completely new engine.
And?

Do you know how much time and effort you need to think and rethink a new and detailed story? How much time and effort you need to think and rethink every single new character? How much time and effort you need to think and rethink every single new line of dialogue? I could go on.

In a remake everything is already done, you just need to do new assets.

If you think that the development of a game is just the realization of its assets and codes you have a very incomplete view of things.
