PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | June 2014

hmmm. idk maybe there's something wrong w me... been switching in and out my Vita games... nothing seems to hold my interest

I am here to fix you. Carefully follow these steps.

1. Sell all your Vita game cards.
2. Buy them digitally.
3. ???
4. Profit!

Now you can't keep switching Vita games in and out!

hmm yea actually it's not just Vita but gaming as a whole.

Then I'd advise you to do the same thing I said a while ago. Just take a break from gaming. Find another hobby or concentrate on you studies/work for instance.

Just last year before I bought my Vita, I didn't touch any console/PC game for 2 years. I did read many light novels and manga though. Bought a Vita and there I was addicted in gaming again.

Edit: That was a weird double post. Let's see if I can use this for something useful.

From the sale, I guess I should probably get HSG. I haven't really decided about PSASBR, but I am getting an extra $5 from the E3 event, so...

That doesn't prevent the need to switch in and out unless step 3 is "Buy a 64GB memory card". In which case step 4 goes out the window.

PS4 related question:

I copied replay files from my PS4 to a USB stick, deleted the files from my PS4 and now want to get it back onto my PS4. Anyone got a clue how? I can only find options to save something to USB, and copy savegames from USB, but not images/video files.

It doesnt take some source checking to see its a big budget game.
Its being made for 2 platforms with help from a major 3rd party developer. It has unique modes for each platform. It has separate stages for each system. It has a fairly big online component. It has cameos from major characters that probably didnt come cheap. Hell i wouldnt be surprised if the money that cost to secure Megaman and Sonic cost more than Oreshika 2's budget (i'm half kidding here)

Also there is Amiibo which is tied to Smash as well.

Anyways i dont want to stay OT in this thread so ill stop here. Freedom Wars, Oreshika, and GR2 will be great games and i'm not knocking them in any way. But its silly to think that they would ever cost more than Smash

I'll stop here. But to think that a flagship fighting game spearheaded by Nintendo with major assitance from Namco costs way much cheaper to make than Gravity Daze is simply ridiculous.

It's like saying SMT has a higher budget than Final Fantasy because they offer an experience that FF doesnt.

That being said, i absolutely can't wait fro Gravity Daze 2. Will be getting it day one for the JP and US release

And you should all get the game as well
Ok I'll stop here too, I don't say that Smash is a cheap or bad game, but imo you overestimate the efforts needed(for a single version) and underestimate the efforts needed for a new ip(especially if it's a jrpg or a open world).

1)It's a party fighter, not a classic fighter, its complexity is nowhere near as big as one of the classic fighters, just think of what a single move needs, you have to think it, make it unique and good looking, realize it and if it's good you have to test it, you need to test input, timing, collisions, calibrations and then (i guess)you need to test it in every possible circumstance, now multiply this for every single move, combo, special, super present in a classic fighter.
Characters in smash bros doesn't have many moves, it needs less efforts.
.
Just a comparison, first of the list character in Smash
http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/201...smash-bros-melee-moves-combos-strategy-guide/

first of the list character in Tekken Tag Tournament 2
http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/201...-moves-characters-combos-and-strategy-guides/

2)while backgrounds in smash are more complex than a classic fighter, they are 2d, they just need to work and look good in a fixed view, there's no complexity like in 3d backgrounds of a jrpg, an open world(even more complex if you can alter gravity like in Gravity Rush), a fps or any other 3d genre where you need to control ground collision, object/characters/enemies position/collision/interaction, glitches and many other things due to free camera movements and characters on it.
And don't forget that jrpgs are usually made of LOTS of maps and dungeons.

3)you underestimate the efforts needed for a new ip.
Smash is a party fighter sequel, it means that design, personalities and most of the moves are already done, developers just need to modify them, I bet that at Nintendo people can do a Mario model with eyes closed and one hand tied behind lol(but they probably have some template that they passed to Namco).
A new ip, of any genre, need lots of work and time just to think the right design for all the characters, then there are their personalities, their moves, their calibrations etc, then there are objects, locations etc

4)you underestimate the complexity of a (j)rpg, other than all the assets i think you can imagine, it needs lots of balance controls, for each character, enemy, object, weapon, ability, attack etc you need to determine and balance base stats, xp needed, leveling upgrades, effects, drop rate etc.

5)A party fighter(or a fighting game in general) doesn't have or need a good story, jrpgs need one or more stories, lots of dialogues(texts+voices), descriptions, quests etc, and that's why we usually need to wait to get many jrpg localizations(if we get them)

I'm tired so i stop here.
As i have already said i don't think that Smash is a cheap or bad game, probably you are right but imo you overestimate the efforts needed for its realization(of a single version) and underestimate the efforts needed for a (j)rpg or open world.

haha I meant "switching in and out". my Vita collection is entirely digital.

Then I'd advise you to do the same thing I said a while ago. Just take a break from gaming. Find another hobby or concentrate on you studies/work for instance.

hmm maybe there's something wrong w me. haha I can't get into books either (a chapter or two and I will lose interest). let's not get started w work.. it's the same. haha. maybe I should see the doc.

I do follow some mangas but they are more like a weekly ritual (Naruto, bleach, etc) and well GoT just ended the latest season

Well, this is a new problem.

So I'm playing P3P on my Vita, having a good time
(save for my party bitching about how tired they are)
, but when I go to save, I notice something odd. It's 10 AM my time, and yet the game is convinced it's 5 PM. My Vita time is set correctly, so I have no clue what's causing this discrepancy. Any insights?

I don't really know where else to bring this up, but does anyone else use this Vita grip? It's the CTA one.

I was able to get this for free, otherwise I never would have tried it. I never thought I needed a grip but remote play can be cumbersome at times so I thought I'd give a grip a shot.

I've only used it for about 15 minutes but it feels like a huge improvement. It's ugly as hell, but damn if it isn't comfy. Is this grip any good? Is there a consensus on one that's better? I read through the old grip threads and it seems like the one everyone used to like isn't even being sold.

Anyone who wants a good dungeon-crawling RPG on the Vita should be required to play Demon Gaze before even thinking about Mind Zero
as long as they can stomach the rather unnecessary/embarrassing fanservice.

It's a good DRPG. Not awesome, not great, but good enough for me.
I'm hoping I'll get addicted to it as well. I didn't really play a lot of JRPGs (except for pokemon) before I bought my Vita, so I'm never really sure whether or not I'll be hooked on a game.

That's on my to-buy-list as well

Did someone say fanservice?

They did, and it just reinforced the idea that I need to play Demon Gaze instead of looking at the bubble on my Vita and saying "ah, I'll start it tomorrow..."

The game was really, really good, even if a bit imbalanced.

Battle Royale is actually really fun with friends. At least as a pick up and play party fighter. Though balance is horrible if you get into it a bit deeper, so don't go online, lest you run into the tryhards...

So it's finally clear why SCEA can treat Vita like that, it's because of Yoshida
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=840044

I guess that Freedom wars and Oreshika will be the last first party Vita games for real >:(

Well, yeah. We can shit on SCEA for Vita's busted compatibility with PSP/PSone software. We can blame them for poor North American third party support. We can blame them for non-existent marketing. But SCE WWS is the reason why Bend, Santa Monica, Naughty Dog, etc. aren't making Vita games.

Was anyone actually expecting Tearaway to sell more than that? It's an incredibly niche title that received almost zero marketing.

Tough to speak for "anyone", and hindsight is 20/20. I'm sure Sony was hopeful it would do well considering it was a first party game by a studio that made million sellers for them already. Considering the Vita's insane attach rate, it's poor showing might have doubly surprised some people.

Couldn't stand the demo of Tearaway. Does it ever stop holding your hand?

You missed this discussion by like 2 pages

There's no consensus. My response would be yes. The demo is the tutorial stage and is bad.

did they really think people are suddenly going to pick up tearaway without knowing what a vita is even?

Heh. Touché.

I don't know; seems like if they were really hopeful in it's success they might have actually tried advertising it or even the system. Did they even have a Tearaway bundle?

It couldn't (or at least it shouldn't have been) very expensive to make, so if the 250K sales is even close to being correct, it should have done okay at the very least.

No ad in US. No bundle in US. PS4 focus, big titles.

yeah that was definitely going to fly off the shelves somehow

Should i buy Saints Row 4 for 15€ on the store?

Pro:
-I REALLY want it

Cons:
-it's not on Vita(i can't play anything on PS3 anymore)
-i have a huge backlog
-i don't want to spend that much, i want to buy the complete edition(exists?) retail and for cheap

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, more or less. Had it been marketed correctly, it had the potential to at least be appealing to kids. Just another example of Sony sabotaging itself I guess.

I don't see much advertising for non-AAA games to begin with, but I'll admit I'm never looking. A Tearaway bundle for the US might have worked, certainly the sales bump from the BL2 bundle has surprised the hell out of me.

250K is a number completely pulled out of my ass from perusing the few unreliable websites that are the only ones I've found to even have a figure for Tearaway. All we know for sure is that it sold 14k at launch, which I'm going to guess is somewhere around the same numbers as Bubsy 3D.

I think we all knew that Sony didn't seem to care about the Vita, but to openly announce the fact is, in my opinion, pretty stupid of Sony. I mean, I don't really get why they would even feel the need to make any kind of statement like that. Why should they bother? The thing will sell, or not, based on the private decisions of individual potential customers.

Why come right out and state the obvious when all it will do is potential harm and no good?

Gee thanks Sony. I'm still holding out for Gravity Rush 2 on Vita but I guess I"ll pass if it only comes to PS4 (as I don't own one).

I have a question regarding download games on PS4 and didn't want to create a new thread just for it, so I hope someone can help me here.

If I buy a game from the US store (US profile doesn't have PS+), can I still play it online with my UK PS+ profile?

Well this week I went Vita collection crazy, and got FFX/X-2, Sly Collection, and Jak Collection.

Jak 1 really isn't as terrible as people say it is. I'm having a ton of fun with it even though it doesn't run the greatest.

But one complaint, like in the Sly Collection, why can't I turn off touch controls? Its so annoying that every time the screen gets hit on accident the goggles pop up, Jak 1 does something similar too. Minor complaint, but just something that irks me.
