Also wanna say that the AC:Unity stuff was sleep inducing. So not only did it look like the same old shit it literally is the same old shit. It sounds like all they are doing is changing how one mission can flow into another but you are still doing the same monotone tasks. That does not sound exciting at all.

i was glad rorie was there to be a little skeptical about no mans sky...seems like everybody has boundless enthusiasm despite not really know what the game entails. i guess the concept really caught hold of a ton of peoples imaginations.

I just started the bombcast. Usually, the 90MBs filesize indicated the podcast was over 3 hours; this one is almost 100MBs and it's 2 hours and 20 minutes.

What happened ? Why did they change their compression method ?

Brad had some trouble compressing. Be glad that there even is a bombcast. :P

Also holy shit at the adam orth dumptruck thread.

he said it sounded bad at the usual encode at 64k, he was looking at other compression but maybe he just upped the bit rate. Listening now, sounds okay.

So does anyone know how to add the premium podcast feed to MusicBee or PocketCasts?
I use PocketCasts and was able to get the premium feed working
Use this url for the rss feed

Code:
http://username:password@www.giantbomb.com/podcast-xml/premium/?

Replace the username and password part with your own and it should work as long as you're a subscriber

It's crazy that a video game website can talk more intelligently about gender issues than the vast majority of my local news channels.

Patrick made a blog post talking about booking the E3 panels and the lack of diversity.

I'm glad Patrick also thought the panels were over crowded. I though Cara Ellison, Zoe Quinn and Alexa were all great.

I know that this is impossible, but I would love for them to try to have Japanese guests as well. Even if it has to be awkward with a translator around. There's a cultural hegemony with having strictly Western devs on to talk about making games, ignoring the Japanese indie scene and even mainstream Japanese dev.

Heck, at this point I wouldn't mind seeing some lesser known European journalists on, if only because we keep hearing about how "terrible" they are from the SF games press, but we never actually hear from them. Are French game journalists really all assholes or something? lol

Those tweets from that person are silly and Patrick giving such a thoughtful response is silly.

I think going the checkbox route is probably the worst thing you could do.

Yeah, it's very Patrick that he would focus only on the gender gap and completely ignore that almost everyone on the panels was white apart from Shuhei Yoshida.

Yoshida was there though.

One throwaway line about race, the rest of the post about the supposed sexism of having a lot more male guests than female guests. Like it's Patricks' fault that most members of the gaming press, gaming media and game makers are male.

I agree. Having more women or people of other races on the show is awesome, but it didn't seem like race (i'm using race in terms of genetics, not culture) or gender caused the guests to have a significantly different perspective on the topics. Diversity of culture on the other hand would lead to a much more interesting and divergent set of views. I would love if they could get, say, a From Software developer on one of the panels, or a developer from 4A Games.

Patrick's streaming the spike game.

Because writing a post focusing on one subject and then saying it's analogous to another (related) problem is much easier than trying to mix all the problems in the same post.

The Rolodex analogy makes a lot of sense. Jenn Frank is pretty fucking smart. I obviously don't wanna have a Lang-less E3 or GDC or anything, but I guess every panel had at least one familiar face, so understanding the need to not cater to that quota is pretty important. Glad Patrick gets that.

Yoshida was there though.
He got stuck with the Chicago Second City repo players though. lol

Yeah. I guess the other thing is that, apparently, Japanese devs are notoriously bad with interviews and purely stick on topic... but you never know.

I think this was the first E3 where I was a bit bored by the same topics being covered by the guests. It probably doesn't help that GDC was only a couple of months ago and we basically got similar conversations back then.

As always, language is going to be a problem with Japanese/European developers/journalists. In my dreams, I'd like to imagine that Famitsu has a crazy daily podcast with dozens of Japanese devs shooting the shit with each other, Perhaps Miyamoto and Miyazaki have some weird relationship where they constantly shit on each other about making the same games over and over again. lol

"Oh, a Star Fox game? How fucking original."
"Says the asshole making yet another Souls game."

Kind of what I was thinking. He can and should grow his rolodex, but the male/female quota won't change much if he stays inside the gaming industry. Not his fault, really.

edit: He totally can push for more cultural diversity, though, as someone mentioned. That seems very achieveable. For example, someone from Deep Silver could be pretty interesting, they recently bought their first own studio and they seem to actually been growing. Japanese devs would also be really interesting, shame so few of them are comfortable speaking English on camera (even if they are able to).
