Many african players are great when surrounded by an actual decent team with other nationalities, in their national team they look like a different player.

The African federations are just so disorganized and corrupt. They often don't have proper training camps or there's just so much off-field drama that the players never get a chance to gel properly and get in sync. It shows itself in how the players are almost always on a different page in the final third with players making the wrong runs, mis-timed crosses, and etc.
