NHL Stanley Cup playoffs

Oilers win game one. Let's see if they can break the 30 + year streak of no Canadian teams winning the cup.
Was a good game. Skinner locked it down from the second period on.

Bob was great too.

The refs were a bit weird, calling lots in the first period and then essentially putting their whistle away unless they had to for the rest.

Game 2 on Friday!

Damn that was an intense last 2 minutes.Edmonton needs to come out flying they can't perform like they did for most of the third.

This is thr Florida I expected to show up. Although the Oilers parade to the penalty box isn't helping matters...
Fricking Kane…

Even with out that, oilers are being out played. McDavid and Drai are invisible right now. Florida is dominating. Oilers better pick it up

Kane is one of those jeckyll and hyde players. Very streaky. When he's hot he's hot scoring and nailing players into the boards. when he's cold he does nothing but take bad penalties. Today is one of those cold games.

This Is Fine GIF

wtf is going on with the referees? This is just stupidly biased at this point. The nhl should ashamed. Florida is definitely playing better but the zebras are like a 6th and 7th man out there

Cant blame refs. Kane killed the team with his penalties alone. And when the game got out of hand, the rest of the Oilers kept roughing or cross checking gooning it up. Even Kapanen got into it.

Dude the 3rd cross check that broke the stick is what it took for the oilers to get a penalty...

Don't get me wrong, the deserved some and Florida deserved to win. The oilers were totally undisciplined but the refs were giving penalties to Edmonton that Florida got away with.

No way, Florida was chest bumping in the penalty box. Classless bums I say!

But my god… can Kane not be a total fuck up?
I think what they needed to do is say, "listen, next penalty, game misconduct, possibly missing next game or 2, understand?" Ok game on

I think the refs are trying to balance out the game from the other night
First of all, that would make me mad. Let the boys play. Also it Doesn't seem like that. The 2nd and third goal for Florida had a big high stick on each with no call and penalty minutes are equal.

If they were looking to even it out verhege would have just got a penalty but didn't. Should have, but didn't.

The oilers sure found a way to lose this one. They really did their best to find those great ways to turn it over a disappoint.

Total domination.

you need goaltending to win. Skinner is not it. He was never it.
Oilers goalies have been shit for decades. I think the last bonafide goalies they had might be Fuhr/Moog. Or a decent run with Tommy Salo when they were a fringe playoff team. That's it I think.

They are a team whose best years are built on scoring to win whether it's the Gretzky days or McDavid days. They will never be a team that goes far based on focusing on balanced team play or having a stud goalie to lighten the load. They barely even draft goalies as they prefer forwards and try to find random goalie x from trades or budget signings hoping the guy works out. Their best goalie draft pick since the 80s might be Skinner believe it or not which shows how bad it is.

You need a defense also and not relying on only two guys. Florida roster is deep and you notice it on the ice.

They need to seriously evaluate this team. Bouchard for example looked to be out of it most of the time.

It's amazing how far Oilers go on two guys. Their roster stats are misleading because you got guys like Hopkins, Hyman, Bouchard and even Kane (in his injury plagued seasons) who get pts too. But their pts heavily depends on McDavid and Draisaitl doing the heavy lifting and those other guys leach off them. When the 2 star players go cold, so does the rest of the team. Florida is different as they got 3 solid lines. The Marchand line carried some wins alone when the other 2 lines were cold. You'd never get that in a million years on Oilers. Nobody except Oilers fans even knows whos on their third line. I heard Florida set an NHL record with 6 guys with 20+ pts.

If they just got some better defence and goaltending they would had already won a cup or two already. Their bottom 6 forwards and bottom 3-4 dmen are so invisible, you could literally just replace them with league minimum call ups and funnel $10M of savings to finding a stud goalie or dman and it would make a huge difference.

Bouchard is rumoured to be worth $10M in FA. If he is and Oilers sign him, the team is dead. McDavid will get $15M+. So you'd get him, Draisaitl, Bouchard and Nurse combined for ~$50M which is way too concentrated. And the two dmen arent even good defensively. The team needs a way to free up money for a decent or stud #1 goalie as a priority. Not tie it up in more scoring power.
