I love this World Cup. It's already way better than 2006 and 2010 (Started following football since 2005) and some historical shit has happened. Aside from three boring games and a bribed opening match, everything was highly enjoyable.

Croatia - Mexico is going to be an absolute thriller. A draw is enough for Mexico, so they have the better chances. Croatia has some good players like Modric, Rakitic and Mandzukic, but Mexico is better as a team.

Either way, the 1/8 finals are not going to be easy for us, no matter what happens.

Do "works just fine" and "not best quality tournament" really go together?

No. If you wanted the best quality tournament, you'd probably have some 20 UEFA sides, 6 from Conmebol, 3 from CAF and 3 from Concacaf. At least going by the FIFA rankings.

Of course, it being a World Cup means you want to have it appeal to the world, and you want to give encouragement to developing football regions. So the way the World Cup is set up now works alright.

1990 is looking more and more like a fluke. At least Ghana and Ivory Coast managed to have some positive results in consecutive WCs. Ivory Coast while not advancing were in tough groups and played extremely well.

But Cameroon has under-delivered and lost their composure in 5 straight WCs. They've lost 6 straight WC games and they'll be lucky if they even get a goal this World Cup.

Ugh... what's a shame is that Cameroon came out the right way and were playing well early on. But Song screwed them over and now it's the same old Cameroonian WC song of disappointment.

Unfortunately I think Croatia will lose. Somehow all Ex Yu teams fail at attacking and forward play when they are against a good team. At least when it is about the national squad. Hope I am wrong though.

I wouldn't say usually. I think more competions decide on GD. For instance, with other competitions, Champions League, the Premier League, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, Eredivisie decide on GD, while Seria A and La Liga decide on H2H.
