I wonder if they'll do any orchestrated recordings like Melee or parts of Brawl? Brawl's OST was good, but the predominance of synth instruments was a step down from Melee. We haven't heard any new orchestral stuff for 4 yet, but perhaps it'll mainly be in the Wii U version and thus hasn't been recorded yet?

He was in Brawl because Sakurai wanted him in... or did I miss the part where Kojima created Brawl? Sakurai has said on more than one occasion that he was very happy with both Snake and Sonic's inclusion in Brawl.

1. Banjo Kazooie - And damn well bringing music and stages from their universe with them!
2. Stork - The one from that old leak, you guys recall? I think the Babies would make for great Yoshi representatives and this idea implements them marvelously. At any rate I'm very curious as to how it'd have been realized.
3. Tiny Hand - A playable version of Master Hand! For instance, his Neutral B has him shooting the bullets his bigger parallel has. Alternate colors include Devil's glove, Dedede's Glove, Yoshi's Hand, Tabuu's Hand, and of course, the Power Glove. Oh, and lots of fun with taunts.
1. Cranky Kong - Personally goes to deliver cane bashes into your enemies' heads, while a variety of rambles about how games used to be much better are displayed atop the screen.
2. Fawful - A number of effects that pop up randomly, ranging from using his laser guns to squirting foes with mustard of doom. Shouts his beloved phrases in speech bubble fashion, too!

There are some valid, and incredibly invalid points in that write up.
In the, "Kojima's statement isn't worth looking into" section, he should've just referenced when SEGA was asked about Sonic being in this game before he was announced as a veteran.
They basically gave a huge no answer, and said some shit along the lines of what Kojima said. It was like, "we're not making that game, you're gonna have to ask Nintendo, but we hope to see Sonic back."
Even though they knew damn well he was in the game.

This article reminded me of the special treatment Snake Eater 3D received -- a special edition 3DS, and Yoshi was incorporated throughout the game. And it's true, it released right around the time Sakurai would've started working on Smash. And this, in turn, was before GZ or MGSV had any platforms.
Furthermore, he notes how Sakurai was one of the VIPs at Kojima's 25th anniversary bash for the Metal Gear saga, and was live-tweeting from the event.
And those quotes about how Nintendo trusts Sakurai with the roster, and how Iwata is amiable to outsiders, and how Sakurai was super-pleased with Snake and putting Metal Gear in Smash Bros., and how it was a hit with the fans...
It's encouraging.
Ness, Jigglypuff, and Captain Falcon didn't show up on the Brawl site until after the game was released in Japan. I'd say it's safe to assume Ness is in. He's one of the original secret characters! I'd say Lucas is probably gone to make room for one of the newcomers. Hoping Snake will be coming back, but not expecting it. I'm not expecting we'll get many more character reveals. About a third of Brawl's roster was secret until release of the game, and the Smash 4 site has already shown more characters than Brawl's site did.Where's Ness or Lucas

It's Solid, and bring ups some points even I haven't thought about, (forgot about the 3DS bundle and such), but I agree it even misses some things. Like the Sonic comparison like the other poster said.
But yeah, read that shit. Snake is 50/50 if anything people, always has been. Pretty much every reason people think they have on his chances being lowered really doesn't mean anything. It's just worry and spite that's grown into one massive "he's cut" bubble.
It all just comes down to Kojima and Sakurai. That's it.

The more I think about it, the less I see any objective reasons to doubt Snake's inclusion. It's more like, the doubt is a pervasive pessimism that comes from the fact Snake has multiple stakeholders involved. That makes it feel complicated, and as soon as something feels complicated, there's doubt. But there may be more reason to be optimistic.
To bullet-point some points in Snake's favor:
- As seen in that interview, Iwata said he is amiable to outside characters like Snake appearing in Smash. He has said Sakurai can choose whichever characters he sees fit.
- Sakurai said Snake was a huge hit with the fans and he was very happy with how Snake and the MGS franchise turned out in Brawl.
- Around the time Sakurai wrapped up Kid Icarus Uprising and began work on Smash, Snake Eater 3D came out, with its own special edition 3DS, and Nintendo touches in the game such as collectible Yoshis.
- Around the time Sakurai began working on Smash, Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain had not been announced for any particular platforms.
- Sega's response to "Is Sonic in Smash" is exactly the same as Kojima's. Both said they don't know, even though in hindsight, Sega clearly did. And as the article notes, Kojima was bubbly and excited when asked and said he hopes Sakurai is watching.
- Sakurai was the guest of honor at Kojima's 25th anniversary celebration party for the Metal Gear franchise.

The problem isn't that he never had any chance to begin with, the problem is that we have every reason to believe he's not in the game at this point. It came down to Kojima and Sakurai already, a long time ago. Now he's most likely cut. And you can't really compare Sonic to Snake.
I hope Sakurai-senpai notices me...
What's the "every reason?" That he hasn't been shown? That could be a deliberate decision in terms of timing reveals. We'll likely have another Direct in August, not to mention launch trailers, etc.

I'd take that. I can't believe there's anyone here who actually thinks Snake will be back.
Look, I inow Snake is your favorite character, but you're really just fooling yourself at this point. You don't have to attack others when they point out problems with your reasoning.

Do we really have any solid reason to believe he's cut, though? I admit that I, too, have the feeling that he's cut, but really, I can't think of any direct evidence. All I can think of is that we know there have to be some cuts, lest the roster grow too large; characters often thought ripe for the chopping block like Ike and Toon Link are confirmed; and then some vague sense that there won't be too many third party characters. Put together, that's enough to suspect that Snake is gone, but it's hardly a solid case.
Wolf for sure, and Lucas (in light of the leak.) ROB is logical, too. All three of those characters are less unique or less beloved (or both) than Snake.
See, this is a silly attitude to have.
The fact of the matter is, hindsight is 20/20. As it stands now, in this moment:
- We have reasons to think Snake could very well be back: Sakurai liked him, Iwata is amiable to him, Kojima loves him in Smash, he's a complete character, he's a hugely popular character, he had a recent 3DS game, his 3DS game got special treatment (Nintendo references, LE 3DS, etc), Sakurai was at the MGS anniversary party, etc.
- We also have reasons to think he might NOT be in, but it's not particularly "obvious" so much as it is demoralizing that we haven't seen him yet. The possible Hayter complications is the only plausible reason I've seen suggested that he might not be included.
But if it turns out Snake was cut, those who insisted this all along can't claim it was obvious or rooted in reason. Because as it stands now, in this moment, we simply can't tell one way or another. He could just as easily be in the wings waiting as a future reveal, not unlike Captain Falcon and numerous other characters. Or it could turn out he's cut. But there's no way we could've known either way.
Whichever way things shake out, one side doesn't suddenly look smarter than the other.
