Making brand new characters like Inklings DLC sort of kills hype for an eventual Smash 5 though.

I feel like DLC characters should only go as far as bringing back cut characters and adding new clones (like Slippy as a new Fox clone :p)
My first thoughts on DLC were similar to yours: Bring back cut vets (top priority), and add clones. For example, one clone I'm sure many people would love is Lucina, from Fire Emblem Awakening. She could be a clone of Marth -- lighter, faster, hitting with multiple strikes -- but she'd be visually distinct with her flowing hair, etc. It'd be simple to design and would mean a lot to the fans.

So I think all of that would be great. But maybe Sakurai could throw us a 100% new character here and there, as well. Part of being a Nintendo fan is having fun imagining how Nintendo will play their various cards, and that part of me likes to picture a scenario where Sakurai adds the Inklings as a promotion for the release of Splatoon... :-)

Can't determine if DLC Smash would be great or terrifying. At least no more five year waits between series. Was shocked to watch the Brawl trailer again and realse how many gens behind they were with Pokemans, and absolutely zero Galaxy representation at all!

Just absolutely zero galaxy representation, that really got to me when brawl released, esepcially when mario galaxy was at the time praised for being the best mario period.
But he was sure aware of dat rosalina hype tho(he is also aware of midna hype but unfortunately its clear he cant think up a good moveset for her, thankfully hyrule warriors is doing that job)

I used to want a Wolf Link transformation for adult Link that would incorporate Midna and her hair attacks, and feature the Fused Shadow as the Final Smash.

I still think it'd be a fun idea, even if it is tied to one game. But hey, so is Sheik. :-)

I pretty much agree with this. If they're going to do DLC, they could do a few cheap packs. Maybe like 1 new character, 1 veteran, and 1 new stage per pack. I'm not a huge fan of DLC, but if they properly price it and make me feel like it's not something that was just left off so they could charge for it later, I'm all for it.

Good job Sakurai, not many games manage to make you ask for DLC before their release. :P

I'd say the Splatoon team deserves credit for making such a charming concept and endearing character design more than Sakurai. But I hope so too. That and maybe Hyrule Warriors.

Also, Ragnorok hits another home run with his Ridley gifs.

Let's be honest, all of us would buy any and all DLC they put out, lol

Yeah, I was all for a midna on wolf link character in smash

This is exactly how I feel, we shouldnt want DLC for smash,(unless its like a stage, or characters sakurai didnt get the chance fo finish or whatever) because the hype leading into smash 5 will be lessened.

Well, the DLC support won't be longterm anyway. Probably until early 2016, about a year. The next Smash will come in 2020 or maybe even later. I think it can't really diminish the hype.

I feel that I'd be down for DLC Smash. The thing that makes this okay in my mind is that the typical fear/mistrust that the developer purposefully left content out of the main game to be DLC instead is non-existent in a Sakurai-ass Sakurai game which overflows with content.

Seriously? I'm tired of people whining or complaining about DLC generally. I'm content with DLC at long they did it right. We know that Nintendo always did it right so far with their DLCs. Hopefully it wouldn't ended there.

Smash need DLCs mainly because if they ran out of development times then they would be forced to cut the characters via Brawl's 7 characters. Instead of losing those characters, they could turn them into some kind of smash expansion.

I think PSABR was pretty fun and I quite liked the combat and combos you could put togeher, but the special/kill system ruined it for me. Just having healthbars or a smash like system would make me enjoy the game alot more. It's a shame, it could have been something.

Not sure how I feel about SMASH DLC but hey if it brings me more gameplay and is priced fair I could see myself buying a couple of heroes and costumes.

Inklings are too hype to have to wait until Smash 5. Their sudden burst in popularity in such a short existence should be reflected in Smash. Also, it would be good for cross-promotion.

If a character is cut, it's for good reason. Why would Sakurai bring them back?

Same! I was wondering they were spending so much time talking about at first, but it eventually won me over. I guess Nintendo knows what it's doing.

Of course they do!

One thing I got out of PSAS that I thought was awesome was true character diversity. In Smash, casual and intermediate players can essentially play every character the exact same way. In PSAS characters were clearly and obviously different and even casuals would see how different ALL of their moves were and adjust accordingly.
I do think Smash 4 is doing a better of job of this and it's especially evident in the newcomers.

If Smash does DLC, I know it's deserved. Sakurai and friends are still hard at work with 3 months left until launch. I don't think the world can stomach either of the versions being pushed back.

I remember playing a demo of it at my friend's house. The game was okay, but I also hate that you have to use specials to get kills.

What was Sony/SuperBot thinking with the third party characters? Big Daddy, Isaac Clarke, and Raiden were all horrible choices, and while Dante and Heihachi were good choices, they just had to go with the newer designs rather than the more iconic designs.

Have people given any thought to how custom moves will work for some of the more, straightforward moves? I'm specifically thinking about Olimar. How do you change a pikmin pluck and throw and call?

Yeah, at this point, it just needs to come out. It's gettin to that shit or get off the pot time. And I know Sakurai and his team are working hard, he just wants to put every single thing in these games imaginable, which in the end I'm thankful for.

But If either version gets delayed again, especially into 2015, (which I can see happening to the Wii U version), it's just going to miss some of this hype they've been building. It would still sell well and all, but it would hurt sales a bit and most definitely hurt the Wii U.

Please no more delays! And bring on the DLC!

I want Inkling DLC as much as everybody else, but I really want Wonder Red first.

Still wont happen ;-;

For newest IP characters, I strongly believe that they shouldn't be DLC characters because they would be better off being playable characters for next generation Smash. Such as Wonder Red, Inkling, etc.

We're only going off the newest Gematsu leak. It mentions Nintendo is planning post launch DLC.

Huh. What do you know about that. Character DLC makes me itchy for some reason, but fuck it. I'd pay another £40 to double the roster. Triple it even. Characters everywhere. All the characters. Fuck it. Every Pokemon & all of Fox's animal friends & Raiden, Big Daddy, Dante, and Heihachi...

Dang, I finally ordered smash bros brawl.

I didn't expect I end up bought brawl, but I bought it.

Soon I should play single player mode. :)

Heihachi's classic old man design was an unlockable costume anyhoo
in his Tekken 4 diapers

Incidentally, I just realized Project X Zone incidentally used the same Heihachi but a different Dante, making Heihachi the only character to have met both Dantes. Funny.
