I really enjoy this photo

MARCA's cover from today's edition is beautiful in its sadness.

"The regrettable ending of La Roja's glorious age"

Wait, the translation of 'lamentable' to English is not 'lamentable'?

Are there any legally free match reports written by a Spaniard in/translated to English? Would be interested in reading the reaction.

If FIFA accepts Platini's 40-Teams-WC, chances will be better for smaller countries. The qualitiy of the matches would dive tremendously though.

Quality of matches would dive but they would be learning and will eventually improve. (Right? Right?) and I think people from said small country would be more than happy to support their team even if they know it sucks.

It's not as if 3 matches are going to improve those players that much, it gives them some experience certainly, but it's all about getting proper training up through the years.

They should just make a group specifically for teams that are outside the best 32 and only the top 2-3 or whatever advance to the knockouts.

Who by? Most England fans will just nod knowingly and shrug if we lose.

If they go out before reaching round 2, it'll be the first time they've failed to proceed past round 1 since 1958, and if you don't think that will be felt by the England team or the pundits, or the fans, then I don't know what to say.

I'm not saying if they lose against Uruguay they will definitely be out, but it won't look good either.

stats lovers.

NUMBER OF WORLD CUP PLAYERS BY LEAGUE

1. England's Premier League (105)
2. Italy's Serie A (81)
3. Germany's Bundesliga (73)
4. Spain's Primera Division (62)
5. France's Ligue 1 (47)
6. Russia's Premier League (34)
7. Mexico's Liga MX (26)
8. Turkey's Super Lig (24)
9. Portugal's Primera Division (22)
9. USA's MLS (22)

Best League with a flop national team.

Puto is homophobic? wut

Oh well, take the opportunity to switch to the vastly superior "hijo de puta"/"filho da puta" (son of a bitch) goal kick chant.

Brazilian friends and I discussed this last night. It's not. We've never heard anyone use it as such a way.

I was pretty surprised they're claiming it as a homophobic slur.

fixed
MLS encompasses 3 Canadian teams making it an North-American league, not a USA league

Puto is almost the same as faggot. It is homophobic, but people can also use it like that comedian used faggot against the paparazzo, in a non homophobic context being used only as an insult.

I believe mexicans use both puto and joto as a homophobic slur.

Lineups

#Cote D'Ivoire XI: Barry, Boka, Zokora, Tiote, Gervinho, Bony, Gradel, Aurier, Yaya Toure, Serey, Bamba. #civ

#Kolombiya XI: Ospina, Zapata, Yepes, Sanchez, Armero, Aguilar, Gutierrez, Rodriguez, Cuadrado, Ibarbo, Zuniga. #COL

Still don't get why the colombian coach is playing guys like aguilar or Teofilo instead of Guarin, Ramos, Bacca or Jackson Martinez.
Ok Martinez sucked ass against Greece but still.

If there's people out there still melting down over England losing then more fool them. The country will be disappointed certainly, but the delusions that we can and should win every game we play have long gone.

Mexican here and i have never heard anyone use it in such a connotation.

Trust me we have much worse actual homophobic slurs. Puto/Puta is not one of them.

If someone wants to insult you using a homophobic slur, they won't be using puto/puta
