Maybe Konami want to make video games other then Metal Gear and Pro Evo..... I dont know.

I just want one Japanese publisher that isnt a total bummer. :(

As a Tales of fan, Namco are doing pretty well for me.

It's probably one of the few JRPG franchises that are actually on an upwards trend in the west. Another probably being Persona.

I think the Tales games became way too boring and formulaic. Not really into those anymore.

What went wrong with Capcom anyway? Their change couldnt all be down to Inafune bailing. Was it all Bionic Commandos fault? Was that the turning point?

It's been happening since the PS2-era. They doubled down on business philosophies above all else and had all their top- to mid-level producers focus on maximizing profit. This occasionally worked out, but more often led to disgruntled workers and creative types who just wanted out.

I play them mostly for the combat, with everything else being a bonus if they're good. Zestiria looks like it'll have fantastic combat (descended from Graces f) but that's at least a year away. I can kind of understand what you're saying though, Tales fans like Tales games because they know what to expect from a new entry, but that formula works for me so I ain't complaining.

Things I want from a Japanese publisher.

  • No 5+ years from announcement to release BS like you get from Square.
  • A steady lineup of games in their portfolio. Not just desperately trying to stay alive between the next big Metal Gear or Final Fantasy.
  • Some Japanese weirdness but not a lot of Japanese creepyness
  • Reasonable EU releases because fuck Atlus
  • Releasing games on current consoles because fuck Atlus

+ the normal stuff you want from a publisher like not going to heavy on micro tranactions and F2P.

Capcom was kind of that for a few years last gen. What went wrong with Capcom anyway? Their change couldnt all be down to Inafune bailing. Was it all Bionic Commandos fault? Was that the turning point?
Didn't Capcom have quite a few other big failures? I'm thnking the later Lost Planets, Remember Me, DmC, Street Fighter x Tekken and who knows what's up with Deep Down.

The video content is the best part of game informer.
Dan Ryckert is the best part of game informer video content.

I am pleased

Yup. Dan has always been my favorite part of GI, and stuff like their super replays are great. Assuming that Dan is the new hire as well, then GB is getting 2 really good people who already have synergy with each other, and Dan already has some synergy with GB. I'm really happy with the prospects of this.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Dan Ryckert needs to become the Endurance Run guy. That's pretty much what was his job at Game Informer anyway; he was the Replay guy, along with Tim Turi.

I feel like the Replays on GI were closer to something like Breaking Brad than an Endurance Run. It's unlikely we'll get a full endurance run, but i think Dan will definitely push for playing through some older or non well known games.

Not really. Sure, they played bad games, but don't forget GB did Deadly Premonition. I feel like their Super Replays were Endurance Runs in every thing but name; they were playing through games for the fun of it. And they never really stalled in a given section like Brad does in Breaking Brad, which is the one thing that qualifies that series.

I don't like what you are implying here.

Very true. I'd love to see it come back, and both new hires (again assuming that Dan is the new hire) are the perfect ones to get it going.

Dan Ryckert Super Mario Bros RPG Endurance Run! Believe! Capital Letters!

Yes! Or one of the Paper Marios.

Definitely hoping Dan increases their video series in general. He leans into the absurdity of the the GI Super Replays in a way I love. Kinda wish he'd been around for Deadly Premonition, he would've been perfect.

Jason Oestreicher
Coming to the Giant Bomb world championship scene from a small federation in Minneapolis, the Informer worked for years behind the scenes, making the show go smooth and leaving the crowds satisfied. However, when you spend your life watching amateurs throw each about, demonstrating technique far too out-dated for human consumption, the bloodlust can only be held back for so long. He dons his mask with a view to thrill the San Francisco crowds and make his name as legendary in the ring as out of it. Rumour has it he has a long-time associate waiting to join his campaign of pain...

Wait, is he really named Oestreicher? That sounds very pleasant, I like that very much. Sounds sympathetic and intelligent, I have to say.

Game Informer had their own take on Breaking Brad in the form of Stress Tests.

I think Replays are pretty much less informative Encylopedia Bombasticas, and Super Replays were basically Endurance Runs. Maybe Giant Bomb can just buy out all the video content from Game Informer and assimilate all the Replays into Bombasticas in their initiative to "Quick Look Everything." :P

I have no real interest in Destiny's gameplay, but I loved that "that wizard came from the moon" line because it sounded exactly like something you'd hear from a cheesy/pulpy old 70s scifi/fantasy movie, which I hope was intentional. I feel like I'm the only one that appreciated it :(

Its a robot though. I think it is fine i don't understand the outrage over it.

But it doesn't sound computer generated, it just sounds like a dude who is sitting on a pile of cash reading off a piece of paper. Imagine if GLaDOS was just someone like Tina Fey loaded up on Xanax reading a script.

oh no..the hive...

...if it is flying you must kill it...

It just feels like they were going for HAL 9000 or KITT but couldn't quite get it.

Personally had no problem with the actual line. The banal delivery of most of the VO in the Alpha was my ultimate largest criticism to an otherwise engaging experience.
