On the one hand, Honduras is still waiting for a world cup goal since 1982. You kinda want to see that happen, and the underdog win as well. On the other hand, Ecaudor has a pretty good sob story with Chucho (RIP) so there's some sympathy points there.

You're all getting this very wrong. You're supposed to loathe the other members of your confederation based on a complex formula accounting for historical wrongs, who plays for the opposition and how much recent success the other teams have had. Not root for them blindly!

For example Spain losing to Holland is hilarious because everyone hates them for the past 6 years of success. Plus the only people Holland really have a beef with is Spain themselves.

England / Germany have loads of previous aggro, but Germany haven't had much recent joy so it's easy to root for them beating Portugal, especially when Ronaldo plays for Portugal and there's nothing funnier than a crying Ronaldo.

It takes years to hone these nuances of mistrust and loathing!
