I learned of earthbound from smash 64. When it came to Melee I learned of fire emblem. I knew all the other franchises and had played most of them.

Fusion's suit doesn't seem like a good choice because its frame is so much lankier than the Varia Suit's, so its hitbox might not fit right. I'd go with the Light Suit personally, or maybe a Super Metroid or Zero Mission-style Varia.

Nah it would fit in just fine, just take out the lank. When we were first shown Wii Fit Trainer male I remember people complaining they would have different hit boxes and such. No way.

Fusion suit would be just as epic as the light suit.

I think I had at least played a single game from every franchise featured in the first Smash by the time it came out save F-Zero. Eathbound I had rented back when it came out, and I wasn't a big Zelda or Kirby fan at the time either, but everything else I was very familiar with. I actually remember first hearing the announcement of Super Smash Bros. on an old Metroid fansite, I think the Metroid Database. First time Samus had appeared in a long, long while, that's the thing that really interested me at the time, been a big time Metroid fan since the first.

By Melee, that was the first I had ever heard of Ice Climbers, and I was vaguely aware of a thing called "Fire Emblem" existing, somewhere. That's about it.

Brawl had no real surprises like that for me, but I guess I'm older now and more familiar with the series. Pit was actually one of my most wanted characters for a third Smash Bros., being an old Kid Icarus fan. Hell, I had been hoping he'd appear in Melee.

I was a Sega kid, but I did own a Game Boy Color. So, coming into Super Smash Bros. [64], I had experience with Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, Kirby and Pokémon through that portable (and the TV show, in the case of Pokémon), and vaguely knew about Star Fox and F-Zero through playing a smidgen of 64 and magazine coverage of X. I didn't play much of 64 at the time, though, because it was at a friend's house.

I jumped over to the Gamecube once the Dreamcast died. Melee, therefore, was my introduction to a lot of the characters, backstories and worlds for Metroid, Earthbound, Ice Climbers, Fire Emblem (to some degree) and Game & Watch, while elaborating on details of the franchises I'd played some of, but not key entries in (for instance: Gen 2 of Pokémon, the N64 Zelda games, more-involved details about Star Fox and F-Zero).

By Brawl, I'd dabbled enough in GBA and GC games that I recognized most of the cast. Didn't recognize Lucario, Lucas, Ike or Wolf. Recognized R.O.B., but didn't know much about what he was from. Recognized Pit, as he got thrown around a lot as a potential newcomer for Super Smash Bros. Melee 2 (yes, that was really a name people were throwing around), but knew absolutely nothing about Kid Icarus. Recognized Olimar, but didn't play Pikmin (didn't like the idea of the time limit). Knew of Solid Snake, because it's hard not to, although my experience with Metal Gear was (and still is) limited.

Wii U/3DS... Not familiar with the Wii Fit Trainer, Villager or Greninja, despite knowing of the franchises they hail from. Of the remaining rumored characters, I'll know little about Chrom and the Chorus Kids; I expect Shulk will be an odd-one-out for many people, but I've played enough Xenoblade that I'm pretty familiar with him (although there are still plot twists in this game that I've yet to see, apparently).

Ah I was just using it as an example. I'm sure there's more form-fitting costumes available for other characters.

Bulky Fusion suit would be interesting.

Yeah, sorry about that. I missed the point completely about what you were trying to say because I'm a Metroid nerd.
The World Cup is fun. I mean, I like watching people kick the puck for a homerun as much as anyone. But this is big-time Melee.
Easily I would choose the World Cup. Sporting events like that are too good to pass up.
I go with Melee.

The game that matters most to me is tomorrow anyway.

Funny that you should mention this, as I clearly remember the very first piece of information about SSB64. I wanted to post it for some time but it felt sorta silly :p

Anyway back when n64.com had just changed to ign(I thin), I remember an article by Matt about an upcoming Nintendo game where Mario, Link, DK and Pikachu would fight each other and other famous mascots. The article included a sound file which was from the intro of SSB64. I was hyped as hell, the entire concept blew my mind, something you only could have dreamt about. And that sound clip, I remember imagining that it must have been Bowser's roar, when in reality it was DK being sent off by Samus' charge shot.
For some reason this is ingrated inot my memory forever it seems.

Metroid Database was around back then? Jeeze. Place is old.

It's interesting reading these stories. I played the original Smash with a friend way back before the GameCube was released. Then he got the GameCube with Melee, and eventually, I did too, and Melee was like the second game I really to play on my own. By that point I only realized the Mario characters (including Yoshi) and the Pokemon. A long time after I got the game (a few years) I started wondering who exactly these characters were, found out about the Legend of Zelda and Earthbound, and to be honest, that's how I became the Nintendo Fan I am haha, so Smash is really something special to me haha.

Well it's not like the skinnier Fusion suit can't have the same Other M hitbox for balance. It'll probably just look really weird on some high level play and replays, though. I.E. Getting hit air when a foot barely grazes her shoulders.

I love sports more than video games so I always choose them first.

Everyone's all about Inkling being DLC, but how about Henry from Codename STEAM?

I guess the problem there is Sakurai's no guns policy, since his main weapon is a gun. You know what would be hilarious, though? If he carried the gun and whacked people with it, but never fired it.

And of course, this would have to be his Final Smash.

This game needs to be demoed on Colbert Report or something. Henry would definitely be a fun character to include. It's a shame Nintendo had two interesting looking new IPs so close to Smash launching. Hopefully they're considered for DLC so we don't have to wait until the Wii U2 or something

Also don't know if there's a general MLG thread but Revven is banned if anyone wants to make an MLG smash bros thread.

The main issue I see with Henry is that he's a character from a new series that hasn't released yet. Maybe if Codename STEAM gets a few games it could earn a playable character, but Advance Wars never got one (although COs never fought directly).

The difference with Inkling is that it's EAD made, so I think it's assumed it'll be a hit.

That is MLG's streaming for you. MLG is far too stubborn to let it go.

Maybe you have an add-on that is affecting it? Try disabling some. Also try a different browser.

Ah people bothered about high level play could restrict it, i.e. tournament rules. Either way, it'd make a custom character that much more your own. It's honestly the first thing that came to my mind rather than individual movesets.
