Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

Hmm I thought the power of The Traveler made all those planets hospitable for Humans which is what the Golden Age was?

I agree on a helmet toggle though.

You're probably right and I hope you are for the sake of helmet toggle. I'm not completely caught up on what we know of the lore yet.

There's been a few references to the Traveler terraforming other planets for/with humanity during the Golden Age. In the E3 trailer you see astronauts from earth approaching the Traveler (presumably for the first time) either on the moon or somewhere else in the solar system, and the Traveler starts to make it rain because it's just that damn cool.

As for whether that makes the non-Earth locations suitable for a Guardian to visit without a helmet or not, I guess we'll find out. Bungie could simply say most of them are now toxic without the Traveler actively doing something, or they weren't a self sustaining environment yet etc. None of that explains the Exo helmet thing as several of you have mentioned, but they could simply go the cyborg route and say the Exo's have biological organs or else say the helmets are crucial interface devices for battle... which is an answer that obviously raises a few more questions. Or Bungie could simply ignore the issue I guess, but it's fun to wonder about. ;)

I said this way back at the reveal and I've repeated it since - the lore and setting of this game are incredibly interesting to me.

The Traveler did indeed either terraform or gave Humanity the ability to terraform other planets. Off the top of my head one of the trailers specifically mentions that Mercury was turned into a green garden-like planet.

Looking back at some of the old trailers, I'm really glad they changed this guy's voice from ehhhhh... to awesome.

I actually think it was glitched. I'm 100% certain that I completed a full Strike without dying on at least two occasions, one on Brave, the other on Legend, yet I was unable to turn the bounty in.

I experienced this too. My first Strike on Brave I managed to stay alive the whole time and I didn't complete this bounty, so I assumed a glitch.

I think you are looking for a more complicated answer where there might be none. The Exo probably needs head protection like everyone else when facing enemies of various kinds. I think it's as simple as that.

And it seems like the Traveler first appeared Mercury, as seen in the latest trailer.

Whaaat, wow apparently I didn't read the description properly. I am not going to be accepting that bounty again in the full game!

Shouldn't be that bad with a hand picked fire-team. It's the lack of communication that made that one so hard...

also in the trailer with the astronauts when they find the traveler its starts raining on mars

Hi guys. I preordered the game yesterday afternoon on PSN. I got all my order confirmation into, and it's showing in my library, but I have not received sa beta code yet. Have those gone out yet, and how long did it take for you to receive yours? PEACE.

What if the trilogy arch wraps up and the Traveler is revealed to be the real antagonist, using souls/deceased - Guardians - as the conduit to take over the solar system? All the "baddeis" were actually sacrificing themselves to halt it? Like a Donnie Darko / wolf in sheeps clothing swerve?

I think you're being hyperbolic. Just because a character creator isn't the most complex thing ever doesn't mean it's tacked on, nor does it mean it's "garbage." I honestly liked that it wasn't the most complex thing in the world, because I can get lost in those types of character creators. It was relatively quick and easy.

And all the options looked good.

My comment may have been a bit harsh, but now you're being apologetic and rationalizing its shortcomings as a good thing. It being simple shouldn't excuse its lack of options especially when it's a loot game with tons of armor and weapon customization. Although, I will say that given my other point about not seeing your toons face very often, they seem to be putting the right emphasis on the gear.

Apologizing and rationalizing? I was perfectly fine with the character creator.

I don't think sony has sent out the beta codes yet. You should get one in your email closer to the beta release.

Edit: it looks like you will just get a notification that will allow you to download it, you won't actually need a code. Thx jest chillin.

Someone posted about PSN Pre-orders earlier in the thread, or it could've been one of the other threads. There won't be any emails with the beta codes for those customers. When it comes time for the beta, Sony will send a notification through PSN that will allow you to download it.

They used this system during the Alpha as well.

Oh.. i got an email from sony with my alpha code inside it that i redeemed in the store. I thought it would be the same for the beta.

That's interesting. I hadn't heard that. You didn't get a Playstation Notification on the Friday of the Alpha weekend?

Edit: Found the post.

To anyone concerned about their PSN preorder and not getting a Beta Code:

From the Bungie Support Forums:

Greetings Guardians,

If you pre-ordered Destiny digitally through PSN on PlayStation 4 and are wondering where your Beta code is, fear not! We now have official word from Bungie and Sony that you are being looked after.

When the Beta draws nearer (July 17th if you didn't know), you will receive an email or direct message through the PlayStation Network with details on how the Beta will work. Keep in mind, you will NOT receive a Beta code through this pre-order method. When the time comes, your Beta access will be provided automatically as a reward from your digital pre-order.

In short, do not fret. You will all be able to access the Beta come July 17th.

Be brave Guardians. We have less than a month.

That is misleading. The guy has the same voice as now in this trailer from E3 2013. This trailer also disappeared from the official channel as far as a I can tell.

That one you linked just has crappy narration.
The trailer I linked is still on their channel and the voice definitely seems different there. Maybe it's just the crap narration throwing me off, maybe it's just a different character in the same clothing, but it seems to me that that was the character's voice at an earlier stage of the game.

I found the version of the E3 trailer I linked on the official channel, finally.

It is at the end of the 2013 gameplay video.
I don't see why you would release two similar trailers with two different version of the same character's voice at the same time. But hey, this game's marketing has been pretty terrible so who knows!

Has this been addressed by anyone in here or Bungie?

I plan to play this game a ton with a co-op buddy of mine. However, he and I have crazy schedules. Sometimes he can play a lot more than I can so he'd out level me.

In this scenario how does MP matchmaking pan out? Say he's level 20 and I'm level 10...will the MP stuff scale down to 10 for him, or up for 20 with me? How does the story/strike stuff balance out ?

Well, I won't disagree that the marketing for this game hasn't been doing the game justice. Also, note that they have removed the overdone filter from that Awoken guy's voice in the latest E3 trailer vs. the one you linked; http://youtu.be/LIxxsw7TNd4?t=6m26s. Nice improvement, I say. Unless that the Awoken just talk like that on Earth for some reason. That would be silly.

That is fine if you like it. The context of my original comment was the discussion that it was missing simple features like being able to rotate around when viewing hair styles. The creator also has scant few face, hair choices etc. There could be more options without increasing complexity. Your comment brought up complexity, but I don't think many are arguing for that just some more choices.

Let me describe to you my first time traveling through free roam mode.

I landed in an open field in the afternoon and decided to head off to the destroyed structure to my right. As I walked through the building I found traces of the world left behind. Skeletons, signs, furniture, as well as enemies waiting for someone to pass through.

When I came out on the other side I was near another clearing, this one filled with enemies. It took me a long time to fight through all of them. The sun set and night fell. I explored around the ruins of a creepy old research station and, just as the sun began to rise, a portal opened up in the sky and a giant alien ship appeared and dropped a tank. Several other guardians came to my aid as we fought it. It escaped but after it disappeared the sky lit back up.

The world feels very alive. Well thought out and expansive. Even when wandering around in free roam, my mind is constantly narrating a story of what's happening to my guardian out on patrol. The game empowers you to really feel like an important part of it.

There also is a full campaign story.

That feeling right there is among my absolute favorite things about games that I enjoy. The feeling that a whole other more in depth story is being told based on all your various exploits. The world around you feels like it's helping to tell a story all on its own. That's pretty much the kind of thing I was looking to hear, and of course I already kind of like what I see from the gameplay. It reminds me of a first person Mass Effect that probably feels and controls like a Halo title movement wise.

mind-blown.gif

That's precisely what's going on. Everyone is being manipulated is my thought. That thing isn't "protecting" us, so much as we're protecting it and buying it time. I think humanity is being used. Nothing that ominous looking usually turns out to be good.

Not 100% on the answer and I only played a little of the Crucible but how I understood it everything balances out in the Crucible. Regardless of level or of if you have, say a AR that does 106 damage, everything gets reset as in an AR does the same damage expected of an AR that others would have just like Rocket Launchers are the same and can kill in one shot etc.

I think thats it anyway or at least thats how it seemed to me when I played but then I remembered there was armor you could get for doing the Crucible so maybe your leveled gear does factor?

I'm getting exactly that sense from the tone of the game. The lines said by the ghost often use "we," referring to the playable races and the Traveler as a team, and highly demonize the alien races without making much of an attempt to understand them or their motivations.

Is this Mercury?

Am I the only one that doesn't like this idea of having color shaders instead of you can pick your own colors, mix and match to your liking?

Bounties actually were in the Alpha. There was an android in the Tower that you could go to for both Crucible and Vanguard bounties. Bounties for the Crucible were stuff like 'Get an undying medal' or 'Get 50 assists', Vanguard bounties were for Explore / PvE and consisted of stuff like 'Complete a Strike without dying' or 'Kill 10 Fallen leaders'. Rewards for completing a bounty were XP points, Crucible marks or Vanguard marks ( depending on the type of bounty ) and Glimmer.

The few bounties I had were challenges. Like finish a strike without dieing.

Oh yeah, I forgot I did a couple of those.

It definitely shares that sense of exploration and awe that Mass Effect has.

I don't believe they have officially stated anything but they said the reason for relatively quick leveling process was so that players who were behind their friends wouldn't feel like they had to play for weeks and weeks to catch up.

So it would seem like the higher level player would indeed be stronger in PvE since Crucible somewhat regulates everyone to an equal level.

Where and how did the Fallen, Cabal, Hive etc come from and to even be in our solar system? There's all the talk of finding the Traveler, bringing in the "Golden Age" and then the Darkness showing up but then these other races show up and stake their claim too.

Are they actually the Darkness or did they randomly just come along for the ride?

Hey, y'all stealing my theories!

I assume that it includes all of the races chasing the Traveler through space. What I want to know is why they are after it. Are they the civilizations of other galaxies the Traveler has visited? Are they trying to track it down and take it back for the benefit of their own galaxy / planet? Is that also why there is fighting between the different factions ( because they are from different galaxies )? Is perhaps, the Traveler the true evil in the game and the other factions are trying to stop it? Bungie could go in a whole lot of interesting directions with this.

Well, Mercury wasn't on the map in the E3 video, nor was there an outline for it on the map in the Alpha. Cut content? DLC? Unlocked later on?

FCKcva0.png

I guess it's unlocked later on. In the latest trailer you can see the Traveler on Mercury when the camera zooms out. The camera then focuses on the planets and moons that we have seen on recent screenshots (like the one you just posted).

I adore the looks of the maps in this game. So clean, classy, and just plain beautiful.
The overall UI design in the Alpha was truly outstanding. Far and away the nicest looking and working UI I have used in recent games. Bungie seems to know that less = more when it comes to UI. All around very intuitive and beautifully crafted.

The only thing we need in UI is the use of touchpad :D
