Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

I saw a PS4 on shelves for the first time since launch yesterday.

Tempted as fuck but I knew it would be gathering dust until Destiny came out.
But then I remembered the beta, when is that coming? Would I have a chance of getting in?

beta is 17th July and as long as you pre-order before the 17th you should get a beta code.

360/xbone get it the 20th-21st, depending on how you count the 4 days bonus the Playstation gets.

Did anyone else unlock the Destiny cards that got leaked around march this year?

Any news on what they are going to be?

Yup.

No one really knows, don't think it's a long shot to think that it's a mixture of different things such as, weapons, gear, artwork, skins, emblems etc. Just by looking at some of the names of them.

Just my assumptions and maybe completely wrong.

Yeah I managed to register all 17 of them. We have no idea what they could end up being but I'd probably be safe in guessing the typical stuff for these types of promotions - weapons, armour pieces, sparrows/ships, and possibly colour shaders to recolour armour pieces.

I said goddamn, nice vid.

Thanks.

Speaking of platforming in Destiny, though. Did you guys notice that (at least in the social areas) male avatars can jump higher than females? It's not a class thing. Definitely gender. A friend and I tested, and his male hunter could jump higher than a female warlock, hunter, and titan.

Thanks.

... Aaaaaaand this is what we're having to resort to discussing, now that we're all going through the symptoms of withdrawal from the alpha, and jonesing for our fix with the beta :D

So the Glass Vault is the endgame raid?

Can't. F'n. wait.

I just hope there's a lot of content in the game at launch. I want to play this for hundreds of hours.

It's important, man! Climbing stupid shit in towns via jumping is a key feature of online games with peaceful hub areas! And female characters can't reach some places that males can! The place we tested, to be specific, is the flag pole next to the post office building. On his male hunter, my friend could jump onto the flag pole from the building's roof with ease. On a female character, it wasn't even close. You can't get your knees over the top of the pole.

>_____> I truly hope that no hypersensitive people take offense to this.

I think you guys just messed up the timing. Bungie has no reason to both upset the balance of the game and start a potential shitstorm by not having female characters be able to jump as high as male characters.

There's no way. We both tried it for a half hour straight with one person on the ground watching the other person's character model. He never failed the jump on his male hunter. Neither of us could, as I said, get our knees over the top of the pole with our female characters. Consistently.

And like I said, this is just in the social area. I doubt gender matters for jumps in the actual meat of the game.

I think I remember reading that bungie confirmed female warlocks are better at cleaning dishes though, so it balances out in the end.

Seriously though, I think you must be mistaken. Really can't see bungie making females weaker. Would be internet suicide.

And you guys are absolutely 100% sure that you were using the same character class at the same level? Because there's upgrades in every class to increase your jump height.

What part of "only in the social area" are people missing? There's no shooting in the social areas. You can literally only buy things, dance, and jump on things. There's no way to be stronger or weaker in the tower.

All characters used were level 8. And those jump upgrades don't apply in town. In the tower. You know? The place where there's no actual shooting/fighting?

Edit: I apologize for the double post. Also, in retrospect, I regret sharing this finding because people are, as I jokingly thought would happen, taking it way more seriously than it actually is.

Well if it is true then it is actually an issue, and I'd imagine is an oversight on Bungies behalf that they'd probably want to know about.

(Even though, yknow, men can actually jump higher than women in reality).

But why is it in an issue? How does it break game balance if there's jump height disparity in town?

Isn't an issue for me, it's just not very PC and more or less inviting criticism.

That, I can agree with. As we were testing it, my friend and I had that exact conversation. Like, "watch some person turn this into a crazy witch hunt". Any way, for the sake of that not happening, I hope Bungie does equalize the jump heights in town.

Gears of War vibes.

No way, bro. I see colors besides grey in that gif.

joking, joking

I just want to know more about what exactly you tested before jumping to conclusions.

Are we talking about jump height or jump distance?
Is it just a flaw in the animation and accompanying hit-box?
Have you tested more than one jump in the Tower?
Have you tested it outside of the tower at all?
If so, where?
What kind of jump was it?
Were all characters the same race?

It's an interesting find, but I think some more testing needs to be done in order to understand what exactly is going on. And people nowadays will make a problem out of anything, so having female characters not jump as high as male characters will probably step on some toes or spawn some sensationalist click-bait news 'articles' on the misrepresentation of women in Destiny.

I don't think it'll be an issue for me personally, I just want to see what disparity there actually is. I'll see in the beta, I guess.

Have you tested more than one jump in the Tower? No.
Have you tested it outside of the tower at all?No. As you said, the jump abilities outside the tower kinda make this a moot point. Every combination of class/gender can clear any and all jumps because of the jump abilities.
If so, where? N/A
What kind of jump was it? You mean the one we did test in the tower? It was a sprinting jump off a raised portion of the Post Office roof, pretty much directly in front of the flag pole.
Were all characters the same race? The following were tested:

Male/Female Hunter Human/Awoken
Female Warlock Human
Female Titan Exo

The only character that could clear the jump was the male awoken hunter so I guess you could argue that Awoken can jump higher, buuuuut I doubt it. If anything, I figured the Exo would definitely have a higher jump height, but female Exo couldn't make the jump either.

Answers above.

I have a female hunter and I sat on that pole multiple times

Isn't the real point here that the Tower is actually a little bit shit?

I liked it well enough. And on the last day of the Alpha I realized there was a lot more to it than I thought. I apparently didn't explore well enough before and missed several npcs I could interact with (they were all shops of some sort), but I loved previewing some of the legendary class specific armors.

Yeah, I missed the whole area on the left originally. I'm thinking there might even be more to it than we could access in the Alpha, judging by what appeared to be a closed gate above the tunnel you have to go through to get to the class leaders. Maybe some gambling-type area? They've talked about gambling in one of the vidocs if I remember correctly.

And I think the Reef might have some social aspect as well, due to it being where the Awoken are based.

Exactly, that area to the left is what I missed completely until the last day.

Not a huge fan of the PVP tbh.

Snipers annoyed the hell out of me although the Moon map was pretty good. I'll be sticking to PVE for the most part.
