1) Brazil has 1 extra day to recover / rest (just like with their second match)
2) Brazil can now basically choose whether they want to play Chili or The Netherlands

Van Gaal is saying that the number of resting days should be equal and he is saying that he doesn't think it is fair that Brazil now basically gets to decide who they want to play.

EDIT Van Gaal also didn't like that The Netherlands got two questionable penalties.

That said, if BRA were to play at 1PM local time, you would have to declare a holliday... Brazil playing at 5PM local time means everybody goes to work and has enough time to go back to see the game. It's not fair, but it makes sense.

In 1982 there was a group match between West Germany and Austria. Thanks to the game beforehand, both teams could qualify if West Germany win by no more than 2 goals. They did score after 10 minutes and both teams were content with the outcome so the rest of the match was barely contested. They made sure after that match that the final group games would be played simultaneously.

1. both A and B final games are on the same day. 1A plays on 28th, 1B plays on 29, so 1B has an extra day of rest.

Well, they managed to scrape a win against what's proven to be a very strong Ghana team, despite a very large blow early on with losing Altidore and their best midfielder having zero presence the entire time.

At the very least, people expecting a 3+ goal difference blowout by Portugal are just being silly. I wouldn't be surprised by a close Portugal victory tonight, but I will be surprised if Ghana loses to them next week.
