Thanks...my god

Two major worldwide conflicts in the 20th century

Well let's see...

WW1: They joined in 1917 and aren't the major power that led to victory (that being both France and UK). It would have ended the same with or without them: badly for everyone.

WW2: The USSR beat Germany, killed more than 80% of the Wehrmacht and captured Berlin first. In reality, it was the effort of multiple nations (including the USA), but if we had to pick a "savior", it would be USSR, by FAR.

I know it started as a joke, but check your facts first because it was disrespectful.
Sorry for derailing the thread (although it's going to be buried in a minute haha).

Why? Because they are a young team that has only managed to get 6 points from their first two games - being the absolute maximum one can get?

This fucking thread man.....

No, please don't get me wrong.
I always say the important thing is to win. No matter what.
They won both games.
That's what matters.
They are in good shape.

It's just expectations. Most expected Belgium to be one of the top teams of the tournament, and so far they are not.
The way they are playing right now USA has a chance to beat BEL.
That's all I meant.

bradley is such a godawful player. every touch is poison and i hope klinsmann stays awake at night wondering why he stripped donovan of his plot armour but has left bradley untouched for 180 minutes.

howard is absoloute world class, though.

what a fucking overreaction. It is like you started watching US games this month. You probably have.

Why is anyone acting all disappointed. Prior to today, many on here were saying Portugal would blow us out. We should have won this game. No opponent is taking the US lightly anymore.

Just let that marinate for a second.

We're in the 2nd toughest group and just lost a chance to lead the group. I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I'm pleased as punch. The US men's national soccer team is a legitimate world player. This year for sure, and hopefully going forward. Advance or not, this is a great accomplishment.

Anyone counting us out so quickly against Germany hasn't learned their lesson yet. PEACE.

What group is tougher?

To those who own a soccer jersey, do you guys buy them with names of your favorite player on the team, or ones with no names? I feel like I prefer ones without them for some reason, which sounds strange to me.

There used to be a player for my team that had the same surname as me so I always got that one. I still get my surname now just because, but I make exceptions for some of my favourite players.

Germany and the US will play to win, I can't really see it any other way. Even with the tie the US has a decent chance to advance. Ghana and Portugal will both be playing to win big time, and with that GD needed mistakes will be made.

Most likely scenario is that Germany and US will advance, second most likely is that Germany and Ghana will advance, but only if Portugal gets really sloppy.

Well said, US are turning many heads in this tournament. If they win or tie, they definitely belong. Played a good tournament.

ESPN just put this up on how the US can qualify.

If someone could just clarify the bolded, I'd appreciate it - they'd have to play either of those teams again in that situation?

Goal difference. Ghana would need to score enough to have more cumulative goals than the US, so would Portugal. Portugal would need a lot more than Ghana.

You are too nice to be in this thread lol. Be an asshole and tease the others, a d you will blend in right well.

It's hard to watch world cup for me. There's such naked hope and despair. I really want an underdog to win, my own country be damned (though we're kind of an underdog ourselves). It's also hard to tease others because my country is fairly weak at the sport (but not bad!). I guess I can make fun of all the diving, though. Hate that shit. -_-

Genuinely fascinating match. You could tell that the humidity of Manaus was getting to the players, so it became less attack focused and more of an intriguing tactical match up.

USA should be comfortably through now, but this World Cup is throwing up plenty of last minute surprises. Honestly, with the way this tournament has gone, it's naive to think Germany are assured an easy victory - have no idea what the hell is going to happen next.

Now I know how English supporters must feel. Fucking Bradley, you cunt. You're Steven Gerrard without hair.

no you don't. you have something to look forward to. being an english supporter is finding the perfect pub to watch the next game in two days after you've already been knocked out and having to see daniel sturridge smiling at you from a subway window on the way home.

Great game overall.

I hope Germany and USA don't fix their game to a draw, I have fears of that expecially when U.S. coach is Germany's hero Klinsmann.
I'm still haunted by that shameful Denmark-Sweden 2-2 @euro 2004, I don't want neither Ghana's nor Portugal's supporters go through that farce we Italians had to suffer back then

As far as im concerned, if u leave ur destiny to other matches, you dont get to complain. Portugal and ghana both lost their first matches, their problem.

Because they looked so solid against Portugal in game 1, which is looking like less of an impressive feat now.

Because they have better players for every position (by a mile), have a history of doing well in tournaments, the players have experience from big games and Germany are just an all around team without any glaring weaknesses.

Obviously anything can happen but I have a feeling Bradleys mistake will cost USA. I can't understand how an experienced player can have such poor judgment when there is only 30 seconds left.

this game had the most time killing of all the 2014 matches. It drove me insane.

Pepe coming back Game 3 is good news for Portugal's shitty shit shit defense
