No more Alexi Lalas and more Gus Johnson. (Who I like and I think has a great play by play style for soccer)
Holy shit did you watch the champions league? At least lalas is only on studio shows and we get Ian Darke calling the marquee games

I'm not saying it isn't worth while, more like on a mainstream level in the States and not regional. Because for America we know that's how it works for a sport to be considered popular. I'm perfectly fine following a league that isn't elite. Hell, I watch both NLL and MLL.
You know of a more elite lacrosse league than those two?

If I were told that US would have a win & draw going into Germany before the WC, I'd be thrilled... but a draw like that? To Portugal? When we had the game nearly wrapped up?

Jesus christ, my heart :(.

Sports are such fickle beasts.

I don't like Ian all that much. He is better than the Bein Sports guys but I want somebody who screams like Gus. I see it with the Arab announcers. It's exciting and entertaining.

Ok, so I just came back from watching the game at a bar... what the fuck is wrong with Bradley? It seemed it was only a few weeks ago he was running his ass off and hustling in all of those pre World Cup friendlies and now, when it actually matters, all he does is jog around aimlessly hoping to get a good ball though. If that's what he's gonna do versus Germany then I'd rather see him benched.

It's actually not that bad now. You could watch some European leagues if you want higher quality, but time zones makes that a pain.

Talk some sense into your friends though. Seriously.

Another way to get into MLS is to actually go to the games in person. That's how I got into it a bit. The Chicago Fire let you tailgate for like 5 hours before the game starts, which is awesome. THEN you get awesome fan atmosphere like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXktZf8gfEw
Which, I mean, when that happens for a team called the Fire and they're CHANTING FIRE it's awesome. And that's a small stadium. I can't even imagine going to a sold out match in Europe. It'd be awesome.

If anything, that last minute goal reminds me of when I went to a WTF taekwondo competition with my university club and one of our guys lost because of a head kick in the last second of the match (which gets 3 points). Shit happens in sports unfortunately.

whoever holds the rights to the next WC in USA needs to poach Thierry Henry after he retires. would be nice to get analysts/commentators that are both 1) good at commentating, 2) know their shit about the game

So what do you guys think the odds are that the states tie Germany?

I think its pretty good. Klinsman calls the Germans and fixes the match. The arraignment is perfect. Germany one US two. Klinsman looks like hero. Germany can continue their journey. Both teams could beat Belgium and whoever is second.

Belgium might have more individual talent than any other team still left in the cup

He's easily been our best player leading up to the world cup over the last year or so. He played better today than the first game but that giveaway at the end is unacceptable. Don't really know what's up with him.

Maradona in the studio. Personaly Bruce Areas is straight forward and would make a good analyst.

Gus Johnson? No thank you. "Iron Robin! Turns, FIRES IT INTO THE UPPER RIGHT-HAND QUADRANT OF THE NETTING!" He's completely out of his depth knowledge wise and has a tendency to yell for no apparent reason. All he can do is regurgitate basic information such as a player's nationality. Considering he knows very little about the sport, he's almost tolerable. That's being as kind as I possibly can. Besides, like someone already mentioned Alexi Lalas isn't commentating, he's stuck behind the desk in the studio. At least they're partially looking out for us.

Too bad Muller and Klose are hungry for goals like no other evrytym

Too soon...lol.

Nope.

Costa Rica 2-1 England
Italy 2-2 Uruguay
Greece 0-3 Ivory Coast
Japan 0-3 Colombia

Nigeria 1-2 Argentina
Bosnia 0-0 Iran
Honduras 1-2 Switzerland
Ecuador 1-3 France

USA 1-3 Germany
Portugal 0-1 Ghana
Algeria 2-1 Russia
South Korea 0-2 Belgium

If I get 1 right, I'll be happy.

Gus Johnson is fine for football or basketball, but in every soccer game he has covered, he has been atrocious. He just talks talks talks about nonsense, the whole fucking time, is not familiar with any players or nuances of the game, and just screams, literally.
