This is a dumb question. But I've been wondering. What if every game in a particular group went 0-0, causing the group to end in a complete tie? As astronomical as that would be, does FIFA have contingency in place for that?

Greece plays every tournament hoping that this happens.

Hail to the KING baby
He made poor passes the whole game.

He missed the wide open net.

He was just off the whole game.

Can't believe we still have at least one more match of having to gasp and hold out breath through many more fuckups. Thankfully the Germans aren't known for capitalizing on such errors.

(Said with all due respect to Bradley, historically a great player and a fine American no doubt.)

Just another example of the USA overall problems. Their defense can't play consistent at all. Some parts they look amazing, others its looks like highschool kids running around. The last goal shouldn't have happen, they allowed him to run straight down the middle of the box for a header anyone can score.

On the bright side the odds of them going threw is highly probably. Then off to pay Belgium, which is a winnable game.

Eh, the last goal was more of a giveaway in the mid issue. When everyone is that tired, Bradley needs to be better and not put the team on their heels like that.

If you got ESPN3 you can do picture in picture.

I'm in Canada, CBC Stream has been good so far, but honestly I have no idea if they will have both matches streaming same time, I have a feeling they will stream both (can't see why not?) ....

I suppose I can easily have two browser windows (or tabs) open, side by side, why not?

As if streaming three, four matches a day wasn't pissing off my IT department enough, now they got to deal with me having two matches streaming same time, haha!

Not my fault, no one cares about "soccer" here in Vancouver, except me...

Germany is going down. The USA has some newfound confidence.

And that wanker claiming he'll set a new World Cup scoring record against the USA will be sorely disappointed.

FREEEDOOOMMM!

Well....speculawyer I wish you could just.. SHUT YOUR BIG YAPPER!!

You're playing for your country. You should have pride for playing for the USA national team and as the captain, it sets a bad example. I'm not saying he should belt it out, but when someone who isn't even American is singing it he looks like a total dick. As for the rap album, I bring it up as if he has the time and at least to him, the talent to rap, he can at the very least sing the anthem.

I think singing it is kinda cheesy tbh. Besides freedom means you don't have to sing the national anthem if you don't want to. Not singing the national anthem when everyone wants you to is the most american thing you can do.

Can anyone tell me why Dempsey, who has a "rap" album coming out, can't be bothered to sing the US national anthem yet Klinsmann, who is not even American, sings it? What an utter bellend of a person.
You should feel embarrassed for your extremely narrow and outdated concept of patriotism.

Just got off the phone with Dempsey. After a marathon series of negotiations, he's agreed to sing the anthem when there's an official rap version. But we only have a few days to avert this national tragedy so Dre's gonna produce it from his new offices at Apple in Cupertino.

When did fans or athletes ever have to sing to show respect for the anthem? It's not like he turned his back or gave the finger. Like thousands of other athletes he listened respectfully.

The best thing about the whole thing? You are free to fucking choose to sing it or not

So 538.com has the odds of each possible outcome in the Ghana-Portugal games at about a third. That is going to be a great game.

Thankfully, odds are that the result will be favourable for the US.

Hi guys,

I just threw together a webpage where you can enter scores for the 4 teams in Group G and see what the outcome is. (Results sort of US-centric, sorry!) Hopefully I got the rules down right. I was going off of one of Squirrel Killer's posts earlier. (Thanks, Squirrel Killer!)

EDIT: replaced link. First one was a little messed up. JS type conversions.

Team USA has it SO made on Thursday though. All today proved is that the US will likely finish 2nd in the group, whereas a win against Portugal would allow them to win the group if they tied or beat Germany.

Now, they can only win the group if they beat them, not tie. Still, USA has shown so far they can play tough with Portugal, and could even beat Belgium iwhen they go through. which is still expected to happen)

We don't give a shit if you sing our national anthem or not. The Crying Eagles of Freedom are above such base jingoism, our national patriotism is rooted deeply in our psyche and we don't get insecure about meaningless gestures when the power of FREEDOM is etched so deeply in our hearts with shotguns and blowtorches.

FREEDOM

Freedom implies the right to choose to sing the national anthem or not.

It's a win-win for me on Thursday. The US is my country but Germany is my favorite team. If booger eater starts Schweini, it's all over. He is the backbone of the team and Khedira is shit. I'm going with Germany.

USA can win the group even if they just tie. 4 -> 5. Ghana or Portgual win would only put bump them 1 -> 4.

edit: Sorry I misunderstood. You meant WIN the group not just proceed to the next round.

I'm just gonna leave this here, it may get some usage on Thursday!

I AM SAYING AS AN AMERICAN WE DONT GIVE A FLYING FUCKING SHIT IF YOU SING IT OR NOT. IT DOESNT MEAN ANYTHING TO US. AT ALL. LITERALLY NOBODY ON THE TEAM WOULD SEE THAT AND THINK ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

Holy crap. You Americans sure take your "freedom" seriously. I didn't mean to upset you. It's just that it is very big deal in Europe and primarily following the sport in Europe I have this point of view. I guess we'll agree to disagree...

...We can agree Dempsey is a douche though right?

Right?

:(

Why would he start him or Klose? They're either injured or out of shape, and it's not like Germany is desperate and needs to sprint out of the gate. He'll save them just like he did against Ghana.

no one here cares. in other sports leagues half the players never sing the anthem

:) It's all good. It's just funny because singing it is so optional of a thing here, that other countries taking it seriously at all seems weird to us.

No sane person really cares if you sing an anthem or not

Well they play our national anthem before every football game and the custom there is to stand for the national anthem and listen to someone else singing it. We hear our national anthem so often that it's not even a thing to us and furthermore the idea of belting it out every time it plays would seem a bit embarrassing to the people around us.

Most of the England team doesn't sing it, and the ones that do don't even know the words to it.

"Ronaldo cut his hair to match the scar of a young fan who had surgery to remove a brain tumor last week"

Cristiano Ronaldo was asked to donate his cleats for a charity auction benefitting a 10-month-old child suffering from a brain disorder. The world’s top soccer player went a little further than that.

Ronaldo, the Real Madrid star who was Fifa’s Ballon d’Or winner as the world’s top player, will pay the full $83,000 cost of the surgery for young Erik Ortiz Cruz.

Erik suffers from cortical dysplasia, a condition that can lead to as many as 30 seizures a day. When the child came to Ronaldo’s attention, he offered to pay for the costly operation. In 2012, Ronaldo paid for cancer treatment for a nine-year-old and has been known to lend his time for other sick children.

Former panzer commander raises eagle team of ragtag teenagers and Tom Howard to fight elite panzer dragoons in a last ditch effort to save the world. Will his conflict of loyalty lead to the decimation of his newfound comrades? Or will he learn the power of friendship and achieve success?

it really is more of an american custom to just listen to it. they only recently started playing around with the idea(probably Klinnsman's idea too) to let the crowd sing it during the friendly matches right before the World Cup instead of having a singer out there singing it.

He would play him to get some action on the pitch for one of their best players in a game that doesn't really mean that much to Germany.
