Luis Suarez the football vampire has bitten another player [Update: BANNED]

But he keeps doing it. If someone doesn't respond to punishment, does that not necessitate a ban?

It depends on your perspective on the actual act itself. I don't find the act monstrous, I find it stupid and juvenile. I don't think it's worthy, despite him doing it for the third time in his career, of an all encompassing ban. I think missing out on the rest of the World Cup and, perhaps, an extended international ban to be sufficient punishment. Oh yes, and ensure he wears a gum shield at all times during matches from now on.

I found his racist abuse of Evra more destructive, disgusting and monstrous than what he did during the Italy game. Repeat behaviour of that would be worthy of an all encompassing ban.

The words of a man that has never been properly bitten by another human

I'm sat in McDonald's right now what would happen if I bit the girl infront of me on the shoulder?

... a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm could be brought if the alleged bite did damage, such as breaking the skin, causing bleeding or leaving a mark, but a charge of common assault, to be heard without a jury in a magistrate's court, would be more likely.

Assuming a prosecution for common assault then, what kind of sentence would Suárez expect if he were convicted in England? "You're not looking at anything particularly high. If he hasn't got any form for it, not more than a community order, I would imagine. Unpaid work, perhaps between 180 and 240 hours. Since it was such a public offence a court might want to send a warning. An anger-management programme could be an option."

But of course Suárez does have form. So what would happen if he had two previous convictions for biting? "With assault you are still very rarely looking at custody, but if the offences are very similar and he clearly isn't learning from his experience in the courts, they could well think that it does cross the custody threshold. And they could suspend any custodial sentence. You'd be looking at a short one, though. A matter of weeks."

Not a lot basically

That's ignoring the fact that stuff happens all the time in football games that would be handled totally differently if it occurred outside a football game, so using that as an argument isn't really fair

indeed

apparently you wouldnt get arrested if you were in Mcdonalds and suddenly tackled a guy's leg and injured it

a bite is completely out of place and ridiculous, as anyone following this can see, but the jail argument is silly talk and full of holes. it's a physical sport like many others, some stuff allowed and some isnt, some stuff gets punished and some isnt, but saying it should be treated the same way as something in a completely different and mundane context... wut

Truly the most embarrassing of sports.

Meanwhile at Wimbledon, you have Novak Djokovic willingly give up a point to his opponent, at a crucial point in the match, because it was the right thing to do. It's why I enjoy tennis a bit more than football these days. Sportsmanship is such a rare commodity in modern football.

To me, it does need to be treated differently to the usual deliberate fouls - it should be in the same box alongside headbutts or elbows - i.e physical assault.

Personally I think he needs medical help more than punishment

Salsa still full in denial mode, this is truly embarrassing. Not one person of Uruguay's team came out and condemned his action. The whole media paint's him a victim. Their fucking president is using the boys will be boys excuse. FUCK URUGUAY. Fuck every single one who deems this acceptable.

Salsa, breath. I'm talking about everyone involved in defending this scumbag not the country.

oh im not arguing that, im talking about the jail comments

I think physical assault could be considered a special case. Hacking the legs out from under someone is a blatant foul, but punching/headbutting/biting has the potential to be considered common assault with accompanying criminal charges.

I think there were cases in the UK of criminal charges being sought against footballers? Can't remember completely though. The FA would probably have tried to keep it all in-house though.

Uruguay legend says Suarez deserves a ban

Posted at 10:19
Alcides Ghiggia

Uruguay have spent the past 24 hours or so rallying around their star striker Luis Suarez.
But it seems not everyone associated with the national team is on his side after his alleged bite on Giorgio Chiellini.

Alcides Ghiggia, the man who scored the winning goal for Uruguay in the 1950 World Cup against Brazil, says Suarez deserves a ban.

"I think a ban could be applied here because it's unheard of," Ghiggia, 87, said.
"I don't know what this kid thinks and what goes through his head. Whether you're Uruguayan or of an other nationality, you always have to reproach these things on the field, this is not a war."

Joey Barton's assault punishment was for an off pitch attack, am I right?

btw, Barton is one of the few that supported Suarez in this, figures :lol

i don't understand why the uruguayan president would say the things he has said.

he's not fit to be the president.

impeach him.

denial of what dude?

Clearly the denial that Suarez should be evicted from planet earth and made to spend the rest of his days on the moon, in an isolation chamber, preferably with the rest of your country who condone his actions. And since all of you condone his actions (apart from that one guy) then I'm afraid Uruguay and its people are just going to have to adapt to life on the moon.

b-b-b-b-but

pretty much word for word what others on TV have said. took being a maracanazo hero to get picked up by the international media I guess

I met Ghiggia about 5 years ago, nicest guy

In that article is the line

Uruguay have spent the past 24 hours or so rallying around their star striker Luis Suarez.

All reports I'm seeing in the media seem to be saying that almost all media there is defending him. Could you link some of these articles that aren't defending him?

sports columns have reported the same statements here without bias. what's been said by Lugano for example is what it is

what im talking about is opinionated reporters and sports commentators/journalists on national TV, which sadly I cant link

take my word for it! or dont

saying "all media in uruguay" is as ridiculous as saying Fox News' opinion on something represents the entire US. Just because we're less people doesnt mean we're a 1 approach sheep

there's even politics and democracy here, wouldnt you believe

C'mon, I mean is if the nation of Uruguay are a singular entity acting in unison, defending the guy. Of course, at the same time, they're more inclined to defend him, as perhaps any of us would if it was one of our own countrymen. That inherent bias would apply to any nation. But there are going to be many, many Uruguayans who don't condone his actions. You don't really need proof for that.

Good thing I didn't say that. I said " All the reports I'm seeing seem to be saying that almost all media there is defending him." For example: http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/28015683

I'm sure there are many people against his actions but I'm just asking where the media reports about it are?

might as well give it up Salsa, at this point we're past the line that is crossed in so many GAF threads recently where:

Sensationalist one-liners > reasonably putting things into context.

at any rate, i hope he manages to work out his issues someday as it's truly a shame that this much talent is wasted because of these anger/pressure management issues he's clearly got.

Sounds good. In trying to be funny you found the solution.

I'm Italian (even if Juventus is the only team i support, could care less about the national team) and i still love Luis Suarez as much as i loved him before this.
He might be a dick, but he's a damn amazing striker, i'd LOVE to see him in my team.

Juventus fan, that's the problem.

give up what? you guys are acting if I was all "LOL SUAREZ DID NOTHING"

look at what im posting and what im talking about

same answer as this:

all im discussing here is the ridiculous notion of an entire country having one opinion. apparently the thread is as much about Uruguay as it is about Suarez

Just let it go Salsa.. people won´t listen to your reasonable posts in this thread..

It´s juts like the notion that Neogaf is ONE person..
